I thought this might be a good idea to start a thread to introduce ourselves to each other with newbies joining us! Most of us know each other, some don't. I will start. If anyone wants to join me, please do! Then when we get new people we can suggest to them to go to this thread!

Greetings! I'm Sammee currently living in NY working in Broadcasting with dreams of leaving it all behind to be a photographer/writer. My love of reading goes way back to the days when food markets use to have a toy/book section & I would beg my mom for a book every time we went grocery shopping. I'm really excited we've started this book club. I can't wait to see what everyone wants to read & has to say about it.

Hi! I'm Li.
Life is pretty hectic down here in South Florida since I work full-time, go to school part-time, and raise my two awesome kids. Any opportunity I get to dive into an all-consuming book is a thrill for me.
I've loved reading ever since the days of the Babysitter's Club and I'm happy to say that I've passed the tradition down to my kids.
Looking forward to reading some good books here in the bodega!

Sarah (thesarah) | 86 comments I'm...Sarah! I'm so excited because this is my first book club! I graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High with Lily and Sam. Currently living in NYC, by day I'm a Systems Engineer and by night an off-off-Broadway actor and playwright.
In sixth grade the school librarian tried to confiscate Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel, stating it was too mature for my grade. I was already half way through the book! After appealing to the principal, I was handed back the copy. To this day, I consider that one of the greatest summers of my life because I finished reading two more Clan of the Cave Bear Series, along with Gone with the Wind, and Sense and Sensibilities.
I'm obsessed with anything tech, pink, or yummy! Feel free to add me to your twitter: @SarahRamsingh. :o)

Steph | 13 comments Hey guys, I'm Steph! Currently living in San Francisco, CA and working at Google in the South Bay. I'm originally from FL and know everyone on the thread, so far. With an hour (or so) commute everyday (each way) and work that never ends, I don't have a lot of free time to read. But when I do, I love it. I'm excited about our book club and look forward to "spending time" with my friends.

Erin | 15 comments Hey guys, I'm Erin. I'm currently living in Southwest Florida. I work with teenagers in a substance abuse and mental health facility. I remember enjoying books back with the Nancy Drew series. I have always found one author and stuck to their books in the past. The book bodega has opened me up to so many other books. I am a bit slow on all the discussions.

Elizabeth Stultz (wicketwillowbean) | 1 comments My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.

Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.

I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.

I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.

-Elizabeth

Hi, Elizabeth! Enjoy the very low-key Book Bodega. :)

message 9: by Mia (new)

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments Welcome, Elizabeth! I'm Mia and I joined at the invitation of Sammee, and then got to know these other folks. I'm a psychiatrist in NYC and I work with kids and adults.

It is very low key...unless you take a look at the fact that I'm wiping the floor with everyone else when it comes to the January book challenge. ;-)

Welcome! I must say everyone is really great & this is all about going at your own pace & checking in when you can. But our reading challenges tend to bring out the reading beast. So it's not too late for you to join in on the challenge, it runs until March.

Happy Reading!

Kai Hunter | 192 comments Hi everyone! I'm Karen but most call me Kai. I answer to both so either is ok. I think I'm the oldest member at 43, but since I refuse to grow up, I may also be the youngest at heart. I am married with one soon who has special needs and two cats that arefor the most pat kind and benevolent masters. I work in the professional compliance office of the Pennsylvania Department of State. My job is confidential. I say this only because it makes my work sound so much more intetesting than it is. That and it drives my mother nuts that I can't tell her about what I do.

I knew I was a natural born reader when I got pulled out of kindergarten when my mom found out Mrs. Kapatch was giving me a book to read to the class while she would take smoking breaks. I've lived a life of books (which makes moving a pain). It's so wonderful to meet you all. Happy reading!

Diane | 9 comments Hello everyone, Diane here with my own private tutor (Mia) on how this reading group works. Excited to get in a more regular routine so that I can pick up more books. Almost 1/2 way through the The Twelve and 1/3 of the way through Cry to Heaven. Also counting the days until The House of Hades come out. So as you can see my reading likes varies hugely so always open to good suggestions.
Also Mia is no longer the oldest as I beat her by two months

ha! Welcome Diane to the group! We love variety here too! so you are in the right place.

And I can't wait for House of Hades too! I enjoyed the Passage & The Twelve just wish they weren't so long with such huge gaps between the release.

Right now we are wrapping up out summer reading challenge &we will be back to our normal reading routine for September. So toss in your suggestion on what you would like to read in September under the Picking New Books! > What To Read in September? section.
