I gave Mansfield Park 2 stars and then probably a few months later raised it to 3. I mean, it is Jane Austen and the lady can write. I didn't really love the story, but it didn't seem to belong with all my other 2-star reads.

I've revised ratings on a very small number of books. No more than 5-6, probably.

I revised the rating on most of my books. When I first joined GR I very enthusiastically gave all my books very high ratings. On later reflection I toned it down a little.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've also done that Gail. When I first joined GR, I blanket rated a lot of books. As another year has passed and I've added another 100 plus books to my read pile, it's caused me to go back and look at some of my earlier reviews/ratings. Several have been changed, but a lot more could stand to be revised still.

Mine could probably use another review as well. I used to be really anal about my bookshelves. Now I spend too much time chatting to worry about my books. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) So true! I chat about books as much as I read books.

Louise I do it occasionally, when I compare several books I've given the same rating, I might lower or raise some of them.

I wish GR would allow 1/2 star ratings. Sometimes I feel a book is not quite a 4 or 5-star book, but giving it 3 1/2 or 4/12 stars would do the review justice.

Sarah | 13814 comments I understand why they don't do the half stars, but I've had a couple of books that I could have used the half stars for this week. I revise sometimes when a book lingers in my head and I grow to appreciate it more.

ms.petra (mspetra) I totally agree with Gus and Sarah on this!

Jammies Auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh not the half stars discussion again. *headdesk*

On topic, I've only changed a few ratings, but if it's something I rated a 4 because I was IN.LOVE with the book 30 years ago, I have a rule that I don't change the rating just because I am now ashamed of my former lack of taste.

Sarah | 13814 comments No half stars discussion, never fear.

Jim | 6484 comments Why is Wonder Dog here?

message 14: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments No half stars. Just make a decision. If you had a half, you'd want a quarter.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I haven't even finished rating all the books on my read shelf, so no revisions yet.

Love your work Jammies! Soon you'll be teaching the monkey to do tricks.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I have a horrible memory, some of the books I don't even remember, but I put them on my read shelf because I had the titles written in the notebook I've been keeping to track my reading since I was in the 5th grade. Analog Goodreads, if you will, minus the lovely chats.

Forgive me, but why is the half-stars discussion verboten around here?

message 23: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Gus wrote: "Forgive me, but why is the half-stars discussion verboten around here?"

My understanding is that it isn't verboten, but I believe that it has already been discussed and most don't want to revisit.

But if it is a topic you would like to discuss please feel free.

Sarah | 13814 comments I just bumped Who Fears Death up to five stars from four a week after reading it. It's still in my mind. And I looked at the other books on my four star shelf and the other books on my five and it seemed to belong with the fives. There are books in the fours that I definitely didn't find as compelling, in any case, so I had to move things around.

Well now GR has blocked the ability to rate J. D. Vance's book "Hillbilly Elegy." That's right, you can't rate it even if you read it.
