I know this is kind of late, but we really should maybe have a book of the month to read together since this is a book club and such, but I doubt we all like to read the same thing. Let's leave this up for five days and then we'll vote, yeah?

Some books I've been meaning to read (not necessarily released recently)...

(Paranormal) Hounded by Kevin Hearne
(Fantasy) His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
(Paranormal) Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris
(YA) Divergent by Veronica Roth
(Scifi) Embassytown by China Mieville
(Scifi/Dystopia) The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
(YA) Enclave by Ann Aguirre
(Fantasy) A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Let's hear what everyone else thinks!

EDITED: Added some links!
Hounded
His Majesty's Dragon
Dead Reckoning
Divergent
Embassytown
The Handmaid's Tale
Enclave
A Game of Thrones

Dmclaire | 6 comments I'm actually going to be reading Game of Thrones soon :)

message 3: by Jenna (last edited May 31, 2011 05:29PM) (new)

Jenna Green | 8 comments The Handmaid's Tale is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it, maybe 5 or 6 times and come back to it at least once a year. I've been meaning to read Oryx and Crake, but always seem to end up putting it off.

I've also been meaning to read Dead Reckoning because I have read the others in the series and Game of Thrones is on my "to read" list too.

message 4: by Dmclaire (new)

Dmclaire | 6 comments I've read Dead Reckoning but I wouldn't mind reading it again. I read it really fast so I forgot some of it haha

Or, if we wanted a good laugh, we could read the new Laurell K. Hamilton book coming out next week. The past few in the Anita Blake series haven't even gotten 2.5 stars on Amazon.

Hit List

message 6: by Diana (new)

Diana Definitely A Game of Thrones!

message 7: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (quietcoastline) | 106 comments I've really been meaning to read A Game of Thrones!

message 8: by Mellieebelliee (new)

Mellieebelliee | 3 comments I've been wanting to read A Handmaid's Tale and Game of Thrones. Also, I've been meaning to read the Hunger Games series - idk if I should be embarrassed by that or not.

message 9: by Rosie (new)

Rosie | 3 comments Children of Men P.D. James!!!!!!!!

haters gonna hate, etc., but I thought The Hunger Games was excellent (and I'm 21). I read the first two in a couple of days, and I read the third one pretty quickly. One warning - the third one starts out slow, but it does pick up and has a great ending, imo.

message 11: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (swoomer) I've already read Dead Reckoning. I'd love to read A Handmaid's Tale, and I'm willing to read A Game of Thrones.

message 12: by Tamara✨ (last edited Jun 01, 2011 03:14AM) (new)

Tamara✨ (jeremyhillaryboob) oh man i want to read the game of thrones! and i think i read the handmaids tale in high school sometime. it was creepy as hale, but so good. also i've heard good things about china mieville and need to get round to reading one of his books..

message 13: by Celli (new)

Celli | 2 comments I need to read A Game of Thrones, for sure. A Handmaid's Tale is scarring but so, so worth it. Embassytown sounds interesting too.

message 14: by Joanie (new)

Joanie (joaniemaloney) | 8 comments Game of Thrones would be awesome. I bought the boxset a while ago but I haven't been able to start it yet. I'm loving the show and it'd be great to not have to skip spoilers during ONTD discussions, haha.

I've already read A Handmaid's Tale but it's such a great book I wouldn't mind a re-read.

message 15: by Cakebot (new)

Cakebot | 2 comments I would love to read Game Of Thrones! But anything I can get in ebook form would be alright. :3

message 16: by Timeeka (new)

Timeeka | 3 comments A Game of Thrones and A Handmaid's Tale are both on my to-read list, and it would be great to have that final push to get to the both of them.

message 17: by Shenaniganjenn (new)

Shenaniganjenn | 2 comments I'm down for A Game of Thrones. I'm so tired of changing the topic of conversation every time it comes up so I don't look dumb. Although I usually change the topic to me, so that's fun, too.

So right now we have A Game of Thrones, Dead Reckoning, A Handmaid's Tale, and Children of Men as realistic suggestions. Any more?

message 19: by Joanie (new)

Joanie (joaniemaloney) | 8 comments I'll put out Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks as a suggestion! It's recently released and it's a fictional account of Caleb Cheeshah-teaumuck, who was the first Native-American to graduate from Harvard college, and his friendship with Bethia Mayfield, a girl living in a different world with a minister father. Looks like it could be a good read.

I'm going to end the suggesting early and just vote this evening! So if you have any suggestions, please post them by 6 pm EST.

message 21: by Dmclaire (new)

Dmclaire | 6 comments I recently got Water for Elephants and was planning to read that next so I'll suggest that :)

message 22: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (nordstina) I just finished "Game of Thrones" and read "Dead Reckoning" right before that after going to a book discussion/signing by Charlaine Harris. As they are both fresh in my mind, I'd be up for discussing either!

message 23: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (aibiwashere) | 9 comments I don't mind Game of Thrones! I finished it and it seems like ONTD is obsessed (seems like? :D?) with the book and series.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (upsidedown5216) | 4 comments A Game of Thrones!

And yet, enough people buy those books to keep her writing. :|

I think half the books are bought by LKH's handlers to hide from her the fact nobody likes her writing nowadays.[..."

Also, the poll ends in an hour so be sure to vote! Less than half the members have so far! Discussion post will go up when I finish moving from NJ to NC tomorrow night or Monday morning.

message 27: by K. (new)

K. (aoutranc3) I vote for His Majesty's Dragon, if only because I've read most of the others already.
