Ruth | 11078 comments I'm sorry to report that work has caught up with our Santa Fe organizer and she will be unable to continue planning our get-together.

She has said she has the restaurants lined up. I'm hoping she'll post them here STAT.

Meanwhile, we need help from anyone who can help to plan the activities for our days. Museums? Galleries? Sites of historical interest? Where are we going to have our readings? Stuff like that.

I'm sure we'll have a good time. But we'd like to have at least a loose agenda. Suggestions from anyone, whether they're coming or not, would be helpful.

Andrea (andreag) | 79 comments Ruth,

I'd be happy to help. I haven't been to a CR convention before since I'm a newbie, but I live in Albuquerque and know my way around Santa Fe moderately well. (And I plan a lot of meetings for work, so my brain naturally shifts into agenda gear.)

From Jane's post in another thread it looks like we're set up for a walking tour on Friday morning for those interested.

Friday afternoon might be a good time for the business meeting/ readings? Or would do you want to hold that off until Saturday? (we could shift Saturday suggestions below to Friday if so.)

For those who like a little local flavor the Santa Fe Farmers Market has just opened in their new facility. If you'd like any culinary treats or presents to take home, that would be a worthwhile excursion.

Saturday late morning and afternoon could be parallel tracks depending on what people want to do.
1. Canyon Road Galleries
2. Field trip to Bandelier National Monument
3. Museums - in town or Museum Hill
4. Ten Thousand Waves spa (in case anyone needs a bit more relaxation.)

#2 & #4 require cars, #3 does for Museum hill.

Trip to Bandelier will take the most time but is worth it. All can be mixed and matched to some extent depending on what time dinner and how late the galleries are open.

I'll be driving up from ABQ on Friday morning. I've got a Jetta, so I can carry 3 others comfortably for a drive. My husband may join me for part of the weekend - he's got a paint-out up near the ski area above Santa Fe sometime that weekend.

Feel free to hack and slash at my suggestions. It's always easier to discuss a tentative plan than a blank slate. I'm flexible and enjoy playing tour guide, so I'll be happy to particpate in whatever you out of towners would like to do.

Andrea

Jane | 2247 comments Andrea,

Those are great suggestions. If we do the walking tour on Friday, we will see some of the galleries, I think. On Saturday morning, we could go to one of the museums. The book recommends the Palace of the Governors. In the afternoon, we could do another museum like the Museum of International Folk Art. Or as you said, we could spend the day at Bandelier. I am up for anything.

Is there a park where we can have the readings and our meeting? On my map, I see DeVargas Park and Old Fort Marcy Park. I guess we can check at both hotels to see if they will let us use a meeting room for free. We could do the meeting on Friday afternoon.

Geronimos (got a high rating from AAA)
Casa Sena (two stars)
Inn of the Anasazi Restaurant (three stars from Frommer's)

also tea at the St. Francis Hotel

Ruth | 11078 comments A friend of my suggested the Blue Corn Cafe. And said the Pink Adobe had the best corn soup she'd ever had.

We've visited Santa Fe once before, maybe 10 years ago, but I don't remember at all where we ate.

Renee | 68 comments I just reread my comment about my first margarita experience while working at the school for the deaf in Santa Fe. It sounded like I was completely drunk! I wasn't but my signing slowed down a bit. I would never go to work drunk - especially when my job included working with kids. In fact, we interns ate dinner with one of the dorm counselors and she had no problem drinking and then going to work! Oy!
