Wendy | 87 comments Hello everyone.....please feel free to use this thread to introduce yourselves to the group. Tell us your name (if you like, or an alias :), where you're from, what you do (authors: please plug your books here), what types of books you like (including all-time faves), that sort of thing. Don't be shy!

Wendy | 87 comments I'm Wendy, from Sandy, UT.....I'm a single, stay-at-home mother of 5. I graduated from BYU when Rex Lee was prez (don't do the math). I wasn't an English major, but I do love to read. I hoard books. Very embarrasing. I like historical fiction, the classics (the stuffier and more British, the better: Vanity Fair, Silas Marner, Tess & Jude, Howards End, Brideshead Revisited, etc.). I like LDS fiction in small doses, and most LDS doctrinal/cultural/biographical tomes. If anyone would be interested in doing a live, book group in SLC, let me know - I'll host.

message 3: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Hi! I'm Teresa from Ohio. I've been married for about a year and am currently a senior at Kent State. I love to read and write but being an English major doesn't really allow much time for any of that. I will read anything. I recently finished the Hunger Games Trilogy and Paranormalcy. I'm really into YA fiction. This is my first group on good reads, and I am really excited!

message 4: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments I'm Jennie Hansen. I've lived in several western states, but I've been in Utah the longest. I'm married and have five grown children, four great sons-in-law, one dear daughter-in-law, and eleven grandchildren. I'm an author and my 22nd book, a romantic suspense novel, has just been released. It's called If I Should Die and is available at any bookstore that carries LDS books, both in print and in audio. It's also available for Kindle readers.

message 5: by Wendy (new)

Wendy | 87 comments Welcome Teresa and Jennie! Jennie, I'd love to read some of your books...I'll nominate If I Should Die for our upcoming poll :)

message 6: by Christy (new)

Christy | 11 comments Hi Teresa and Jennie. Welcome! I've been on Goodreads for a while, but am still figuring out how it works. I'm not very techy, but I'm learning (one babystep at a time.)

message 7: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 14 comments I am married (since 2005) with no children at home. I have 3 grown stepsons (2 are twins) thanks to my husband, and 2 granddaughters. One more step- granddaughter will be added when one of the twins marries this year. Born in California but I've lived in Utah since I was 8. I've had a wonderful life. And, of course, I love to read and discover new lands and adventures through the books I read.

message 8: by Christy (new)

Christy | 11 comments Welcome, Cathy. I think it would be fun to have twins if you got them when they were two or three so you weren't up with 2 babies at night, but then you didn't have to deal with that part. :}

message 9: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 14 comments Christy, no, I didn't, but I enjoy them now. They are fraternal. It's interesting to watch them, though, even in their adult years.

message 10: by Devin (new)

Devin Thorpe (devinthorpe) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Devin Thorpe, father of PhD candidate at Berkeley (yes, I'm very proud), husband to my one and only of nearly 23 years, ex business executive, professor of business at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China for BYU, and author of Building Wealth for Building the Kingdom, A Financial Planning Guide for Latter -day Saint Families.

message 11: by Miguel (new)

Miguel (miguelaragon) I am Miguel, and I join this group to learn more of good recommendations to read. I am sure that some of your comments will enlighten me, please share your thought of your reading. I hope this group is still alive, I see the last comment was posted in 2012.

message 12: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments Iforget about this part of this group. I should have mentioned i have a new book out, By the River.

message 13: by David (new)

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments Like Jennie, I also had not noticed the Introduction section before. I published my first novel last summer: In the Days of Lachoneus . It is based on the period in the Book of Mormon when Zarahemla was being overrun by the Gadiantons. I started out wanting to just tell a good story, but it didn't take long for me to realize how truly relevant Lachoneus's experiences are to our own experiences today. Mormon knew exactly the conditions we would be facing in our world today when he included the events of Lachoneus's fight. He taught us how to fight terrorism, and we should pay close attention to the history of Zarahemla.

Hi, Miguel and David: Yes, this group is still active, although I can't seem to jump start activity for it, but I hope you will contribute whenever you wish to! :)

I saw that you had a new book, Jennie, and David's looks pretty cool, too! Here are the Goodreads covers for them for members who wish to learn more:

By the River by Jennie Hansen and In the Days of Lachoneus The Gathering by David Armstrong

I've added both to my list of books to read.

message 15: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments Thanks Paul. Actually I have another new book, just released this week, Three Little Words. It's a compilation of three novellas with Aubrey Mace and K.C. Grant. So far it's only on Amazon for e-readers, but should appear any day in print at bookstores.

message 16: by David (new)

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments Thanks, Paul. The more we write in this section, the more we will read. I will try to drop in here from time to time and drop everyone a line.

Incidentally, who has read the Promised Land series by Woolley? I have just started the first book. For those who have already read one or more of the books, what did you think?

message 17: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments Ilove that series.

message 18: by Paul (new)

Paul (paul_gephart) | 160 comments Mod
So do I - I've only read the first and started the second one at one time, but I loved what I read and have meant to get back to it. I picked up the 5th book at Seagull on their clearance table for little money, too, which was a bonus. I have put that second book back on my (long) list of 2016 books to read.

Here are the books for those interested in them:

1. Pillar of Fire (The Promised Land, #1) by David G. Woolley
2. Power of Deliverance (The Promised Land, #2) by David G. Woolley
3. Place of Refuge (The Promised Land, #3) by David G. Woolley
4. Day of Remembrance (The Promised Land, #4) by David G. Woolley
5. Compass of God (The Promised Land, #5) by David G. Woolley

message 19: by David (new)

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments I got Volume 1 Pillar of Fire off of Amazon used but in excellent condition for under $5.

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments D, I have put your book on my Want To Read list. A couple of books are ahead of you, but I'll get there. Do you have a web site or Facebook page? I would be happy to put a link to your site or page on my web site: www.davidarmstrongbooks.com. Good luck with the publishers. It is a long waiting game!

message 23: by David (new)

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments Jennie, I found your blog and your impressive list of books. You are obviously an accomplished author! What is your favorite book you have written? I will put it on my To Read list.

message 24: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments I'm afraid I'm one of those writers like a mom who can't name a favorite book anymore than a favorite child. Macady is probably my highest seller, but my newer books like Shudder, If I Should Die, and By the River are catching up. I write in several different genres so take your pick: Western, Historical, Suspense, Mystery, or Romance.

message 25: by David (new)

David Armstrong (davidalanarmstrong) | 7 comments Thanks, Jennie. I'm a history fan. I'll pick one of your historical works.

message 26: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 20 comments David, you might also like Sian Bessey's One Last Spring. It takes place in the 1880s in Wales and is very well researched.

Hi, Joe! Welcome to the group.

I noticed you are from Buffalo. My nephew is a student at SUNY-Buffalo dental school. (I've never been to Buffalo, but I served my mission in New Jersey, so if you have been there for a while, we were neighbors about 30 years ago.)
