Matthew sat at a rounded table with his face torn into a book which he had taken from the library. The solitude was driving him crazy and it was unbearable. He was about to get up and leave but, he didn't want to bump into anyone. Instead, he kept still and glanced up occasionally to give his straining eyes a break.

As she ate the flavorless food (at least nothing would harm her tongue and nose), Lauren kept her almost-closed eyes on the dark table. Of course, she sat alone. That was okay. She didn't want anyone around her.
That's it. He'd had it. The boy spent too much time in the room and he had snapped. Getting up from the table, Matt stretched and let out a muffled yawn. His eyes shifted to each corner of the room until he spotted a girl sitting silently. No wonder it was so quiet. She was the only one here.

"Is he one of them?" she whispered to the doll. "I think he is. Is he?"
It was quiet again as Lauren waited for her answer.
The boy gave a small smile as he gave a small smile and walked towards the door. He felt guilty about leaving the girl there. He remembered what had happened the last time he had left a girl alone. The memories hit him like a violent tsunami. Instead, he walked over to the table and sat down.
"Hey..." he started and watched her eat the bland food on the plate.
"Hey..." he started and watched her eat the bland food on the plate.

"Are you okay?" He asked observing her sudden halt from ingesting the food. He fiddled with the book in his hand and bit the skin inside his lip. "You look...lonely" He finished.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, closed his eyes and sighed. "That's not what I was trying to imply. You just look out of it." He looked up and stared at the girl knowing he'd just get another weird answer.

The boy stared at her with amazement, though he wasn't the one to judge. He'd been there. "Why don't you tell me your name." Matt said and reached out towards the girl hoping to get her attention.

He smiled and let out a small chuckle. "I'm Matthew by the way. What is that you have there?" He asked referring to the doll.

"What do you mean angels?" He asked suddenly developing an interest in her. "Like the angels from heaven?"

"Oh," he simply replied and stared at the tray. "I'm guessing you're done now and I can throw it out for you." He pulled it away from her and stood up.

He threw the food out and placed the dirty plate in the wash basin. He washed it off before making his way back over to Lauren to hover over the table. "Why don't you talk to anyone else? I'm sure it would do you some good."

"I see," he said and sat down once again. "So you spend your time in here or cooped up in your room just to get away from it all." He opened the book and scanned to pages for a random spot. "It's not good to ostracize yourself."

"Do you have a roommate?" The boy looked up from his reading. "If you do, what's her name?" He drummed his fingers against the table and read as he waited for her reply. He felt like a police officer. The way he interrogated her...

"Do you enjoy the stories you hear?" The way she talked made her look cute. After all, she was young. What else did Matt expect from a girl like her?
He let out what sounded like and impatient sigh. "What about the rest? What happens to those." He stood up stretched himself out.
(good night)
He nodded his head obediently. "Come take a walk with me. You can tell me more about yourself if you wish to." He held his hand out for her and looked down at the doll.

He held onto Lauren's hand and walked out of the room with her. "I never heard how old you are. "I'm nineteen by the way." He listened to the short staccato of their footsteps as it hit the tiled floor.

He let go of her hand seeing the tension. "I'll say you look like you're around ten. Give or take a year." He shrugged at her. "You don't look that young though."

Matthew patted her head softly as she spoke to the doll. "It's a compliment to be assumed that you're young. Besides your innocence shows it."

Lauren shied away from his touch. "I don't like that," she muttered, glancing up at his hand as if it were some sort of odious creature.
((whoops))
He pulled away. "You're a very outspoken child, aren't you?" A small smile crawled over his lips as he watched her with delight.

He smiled again and kept quiet. "Do you want to go anywhere in particular?" He tapped the paperback book against his thigh as he held his page.
He gave her a puzzled look. "Sure, I guess...Take me to your room." He sighed. Matt didn't like the fact that he was growing perturbed by her talking.
