I think every author ponders which Hollywood stars would best bring their characters to life. Although I did not have any specific actors in mind when I wrote the book...since its publication, I have been on a constant "talent search."

Now, when I watch a movie or television show, I scrutinize the cast for "possible" players in a movie version of Sons of Avalon: Merlin's Prophecy.

Help me with the "dream" casting for the movie version of "Sons of Avalon: Merlin's Prophecy."

After reading the book, please post your suggestions as to which actors you think would best portray the novel's characters...and why!

Special Note: If you post a supporting image, please be sure that it does not violate any copyright laws. The images I have used in my examples are recreations of photographs that I composed from a combination of pen & ink and/or pencil drawings.

Have Fun!

Merlin: Zac Efron (High School Musical)...I know he is an odd choice for the passionate brooding lead.

He does have Merlin's features...features far too pretty to be wasted on a male. As to date, he has not stretched his acting range. Yet, I detect something smoldering beneath the surface, and I believe he would deliver a powerful performance.

Uther: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tutors, Alexander)...With his intense emotional diversity, Jonathan was "born" to play the part of Uther Pendragon. I actually had a dream where he accepted the part of Uther...I love those kind of dreams .

Ambrosius: Jared Leto (Alexander, Lord of War)... Again, I am sure he would not be the first pick of many to play the part of Ambrosius, but I have followed his career, and he is my first choice to play the sensitive High King with an addictive personality.

Lot: Robert Pattinson (Twilight) ...I took a giant leap-of-faith with my imaginary casting of Robert Pattinson, as Sir Lot.

I had only seen him briefly (playing a small part in two of the Harry Potter films). However, with the prospects of his staring role in the movie Twilight (based on the popular novel with the same name, and my current obsession with the vampire series), I have a gut feeling that no one but Robert could portray misunderstood anti-hero Lot.

Meleagant: Tom Sturridge (Vanity Fair) ...At first I considered him for the role of Nentres. Yet, For purely selfish reasons (after all this is my fantasy casting call), I would be interested in watching him take on the challenging role of young man on a spiral decent into insanity.

Nentres: Scott Michael Foster (Greek)...He would be the ideal judicious, loyal and insightful member of the Young Royal Guard.

Nimue: Abbie Cornish (Stop-loss, Candy)...Although she is a little older than I had imagined in the novel...she still possesses an ethereal beauty that radiates off the screen.

Lady of the Lake: Rosemary Gore (Soulmates)...As a teenager, Rosemary would occasionally hang out at our house. There was always a mystical "otherworldly" quality about her, that would make her the perfect person to play Merlin's mother, and Ambrosius' love interest.

Igraine: Natalie Dormer (The Tutors, Casanova)... Igraine is to Uther, what Helen of Troy was to Paris. Natalie Dormer is an exceptional blend of arrogance and allure... a woman a man would risk his life for...a woman worthy of instigating a war!

Ok, that is all I have so far. I am still searching for the perfect actors to play the following roles...

Lionel
Dodinel
Faustus
Pellinore
Elivri

Please post your suggestions, I am very excited to see your casting call!

Lillian Hawkins (lilyhawk) | 30 comments Oh this is exciting! What fun to see the book "come to life" this way.

My only concern in casting both Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens is the unavoidable continued connection to High School Musical.

However, I do see where you are coming from with your selected cast. Would make for a very timely and popular movie!

On another note, I heard Loreena McKennitt at the fair yesterday. I had to play her CD for the ride home. I can hear the movie soundtrack already!

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
Oh I agree. As Loreena was my musical muse throughout the writing process, she would of course also be my first pick for the soundtrack.

As to Morgause, I agree with you...if you can think of someone else who would better fit the part, please post it to the thread...

This is just tooOOooo much fun!

Lillian Hawkins (lilyhawk) | 30 comments Okay, since I couldn't think of anyone off the top of my head. I tried a search for the hottest new actresses and this is what popped up:

http://topsexiest.blogspot.com/2007/1...

Don't know if any are actually good actresses, but a few of them certainly "look the part" ;-)

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
They sure do look the part. The only problem, they are all in their 20s, a couple were actually in their late 20s. I think the photos were taken when they were younger...or I want to drink from their fountain of youth water source.

As Morgause is only 13 at the time she meets Lot, I don't think any of the twenty-somethings could pull that off?

Men seem to be able to appear younger on screen...how unfair is that?

We need to keep looking...who would have thought that casting would be such a hard job? Keep the faith...we will come up with the perfect Morgause. Oh, and don't forget to look for a Lionel while you are at it.

The Search continues...

Oh that is a great site Sandy...I really like Jenna Boyd for the role of young Morgan.

Thanks tons,

As Lillian suggested, I reconsidered the casting of Morgause, and came up with the perfect actress. Dakota Fanning. She is powerful, beautiful, and the perfect age.

Sandra (SndCastie) | 9 comments Glad you liked it :O) yes Dakota is a outstanding choice.

For Pellinore I was thinking out-side-the-box...how about Hugh Laurie (the grumpy doctor on the TV show, House.)

Jade Hey Dee, so, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ From what I've heard about Merlin, he looks like Zac Efron would fit him. But his personality...well thats another story. Same with Vanessa Hudgens. I hope that helps.

message 22: by Dee (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
Yeah, I am rethinking the whole Zac Efron casting...Anyway, he is getting too old for the part. I need a boy with looks that "are far too pretty to be wasted on a male"...at the same time, he needs to be broody and intense.

And I really think that I would rather go with Dakota Fanning as Morgause. She is one of my all-time favorite actresses.

Jade Hey Dee!!!!!!!!

For Uther, I was thinking someone a little more muscular, I am still trying to fink you a Merlin! Hope that helps!

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
Hey Jade...have you seen the Tutors?

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has the perfect abs for Uther...er, I mean, he has the perfect acting chops :)

message 28: by Jade (new)

Jade No, I haven't, I'll check him out! :D

You are funny! I seriously Laughed Out Loud!

message 29: by Jade (new)

Jade he's ok, no offense if I pictured him wrong, but I imagined him more...not fat(lol), but VERY muscular. He does have "perfect acting chops" though lol

message 30: by Paul (new)

Paul Brian Blessed as an aging, fat Vortigern?

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
Has to go look up current picture of Brian Blessed :]

After watching the Oscars last night, I agree with you Jade...Zac is totally wrong for Merlin. Sigh...

The search goes on...

How about Rob Pattinson for Uther?

message 32: by Jade (new)

Jade Maybe......

message 33: by Jade (new)

Jade I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers would fit it better.....☺

message 34: by Dee (new)

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
Yippers, I agree.

I think Rob would be the perfect lead for Arizona Knights :)

message 35: by Jade (new)

Jade huh???

Dee Marie (dee_marie) | 194 comments Mod
The other novel I am also writing. It is a modern day Arthurian romance.

The male lead is a medieval knight for hire :]

message 37: by Jade (new)

Jade Cool!!! I'd bet it's gonna be great!

Jade Omigosh! the guy you picked for Meleagant
Meleagant: Tom Sturridge (Vanity Fair) ...At first I considered him for the role of Nentres. Yet, For purely selfish reasons (after all this is my fantasy casting call), I would be interested in watching him take on the challenging role of young man on a spiral decent into insanity.

He is perfect! All he needs is awesome contacts!
