What is the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?

The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given a set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and always different.

After signups are closed, I'll put your names and any extra info I’ve required into the super secret PIFM randomizer and select someone for you to choose for. This will get posted along with the rules for the month.

Whilst you're doing your picks, someone else is doing picks for you. Once you receive them, you pick a book off the list and get reading. To complete the challenge, you only have to read 1 (one) book but many of us end up reading more because we just can't resist a list of books to read.

In order to participate you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or make the person who will be giving you recommendations, your friend. On top of that, I strongly recommend keeping your bookshelves updated; otherwise you might end up with a recommendation that you have already read.

Everything gets done in this thread so be sure to come back often!!!

If you don’t remember (LOL!) please enter your birth date (make sure you enter the year as YYYY or 1970 instead of 70) in either of these websites and it will calculate it for you:

Sign up will remain open through to Jun 28th (2pm EST).

You’ll have until JULY 2nd to make your recommendations.

You then have till the end of the month to read your pick and give some feedback.

PICKING RULES

The days of the week were named after the seven planets of classical astronomy (the non-fixed objects in the sky easily visible without a telescope): Sun-day, Moon-day, Saturn-day, and in Latin, 'Martis' (Mars, Tuesday), 'Mercurii' (Wednesday), 'Iovis' (Jupiter, Thursday) and 'Veneris' (Venus, Friday).

The picking rules are based on these 7 classical planets plus 2 other solar system bodies.

READ THE (CLASSICAL) PLANETS
1. Sun (star) – Book from their TBR you gave 5 stars or if you haven't read any, one with a high rating

2. Moon (satellite) – Book from their TBR that’s the next in a series they already started or from an author they already liked and enjoyed.

3. Mars (same symbol as male gender) – Book written by a male author or with a strong male character

4. Mercury (smallest planet) - Short book from their TBR

5. Jupiter (outer planet) – Book that’s a bit ‘out there’ either because it has an original premise, a funky title or because it’s something they wouldn’t normally read

6. Venus (hottest planet) – Popular book they haven’t read yet or a steamy book (if they like that sort of thing.)

7. Saturn (rings) – Romantic book that made you sigh (and hopefully included a ring.)

8. Asteroid: Book that has been around your TBR for a while that you think you would both enjoy

9. Comet: Book from their TBR that caught your eye

DG, I clicked on the first date calculator. You enter the date, month, and year. And it gives back the day of the week and (this is really useful) whether that date you entered is in the past or the future. I can see maybe giving the total number of days since that day or number of days until the entered date occurs. But a Past/Future just leaves me scratching my head.
