message 1: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I'd have to say the critical thinking class I am currently taking. I do not have any critical thinking skills whatsoever. I mean I think about things but not on a theoretical or philosophical point.

haha..i know what you mean about the critical thinking skills.

i think my least favorite class was either business math..because i'm horrible at math..or macroeconomics..because i didn't understand a thing!

message 3: by Katerina (new)

Katerina | 252 comments ughh public speaking class!!

message 4: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I used to hate public speaking too but the Speech instructor I had was totally cool and I did better than I thought I would have done in the class.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
that's exactly what happened to me..i used to be terrified of public speaking so naturally i feared that class..but my prof was really easy going and it was a small class..mostly with girls in it..and i felt soo comfortable and actually did really well.

message 6: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) Economics! The teacher was soooooo boring and would lecture in the most random way so you never knew what was important enough to write down... I ended up dropping the class and taking it later with a more comprehensible teacher, haha.

message 7: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Haha I didn't even take public speaking. I went the easy route and took "small group discussion" instead. Thank God. I would have to say that the worst class I have taken in college would have to be "Introduction to American Government". It wasn't because it wasn't an interesting topic. It was because my professor was the worst professor in the entire world. He made us buy 6 expensive books AND get a subscription to the New York Times. Also, he spoke like Ben Stein.

message 8: by Spencer (new)

Spencer (spencerafreeman) lol Kelsey, that sounds like HELL!!

message 9: by Silvia (new)

Silvia (silverware) | 436 comments Worst class ever I would say was Genetics. I literally fell asleep in that class. When I woke up my 2 friends were still sleeping. The prof was too monotone! I coudn't handle it!

haha isn't funny how a professor can either make or break a class. its such a shame..a lot of classes im sure i would have enjoyed more with another professor.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
my least favorite class is beginning to be British Lit..the professor is dreadfully boring and my attention span cannot bear the thought of attempting to read another Old/Middle English piece of work. I won't do it anymore! Luckily, we start reading Frankenstein soon. :)

message 12: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments anything math related..i can't even do simple math!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
i feel your pain Bree! My boyfriend is the complete opposite of me..he is amazing at math and science..while I'd prefer literature, history, or really anything creative.

message 14: by Allison (new)

Allison hmm...i'd have to say my physics for educators class.
the stuff that we are doing is super hard. nothing that would ever present itself in an elementary classroom.
and the professor, don't get me started on her...lol

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
yuck physics. hated it.
and i've always said it..but the professor really makes or breaks the class for you.
as much as i hated physics..when i had it in high school i had the most amazing teacher ever..and it made it bearable..had it in college..remembered why i hated it so much.

message 16: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) I took physics my sophomore year in college and absolutely hated it! It was the first time in my life that I was working my ass off to get a good grade and really trying to get it, and I just couldn't, no matter what I did. It didn't help that my professor spoke terrible English. I couldn't understand hardly anything he said! I cried during and after every test! Haha, it was terrible. I think I could find any subject interesting if I had the right professor to teach me though. Jamie, they really do make or break a class.

message 17: by Bree (new)

Bree (breezybaby) | 144 comments yuck..physics! I was the same way Kelsey..i tried so hard to get it..but it was just so hard for me..my brain couldn't do it.

message 18: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments there's a lot of classes I really didn't care for, but geez accounting kicks my ass. i gave up last semester of last year and next semester im taking it over. i have to have acct 1 & 2 for my major.. uggh. but im just going to have to bust my butt.. i cant keep re-taking things!

message 21: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) This semester Social Problems and Western Civ are my least fav.

message 22: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Funny story.

When I took Social Problems, we had some type of test that was to show us if we were racist or not. You had 3 spots to fill on the police department and were given information on 10 applicants and pick which you would hire.

Well, if you hired the 3 most qualified you were considered racist because they were all white. 2 guys and 1 girl.

I was the only one of 66 of us that didn't choose those 3. I came out sexist, cause I chose all 3 of the females. :)

message 23: by Caiti Casey (new)

Caiti Casey Spiess (mrssteven) That is so dumb Tami. I hate when they do that kind of stuff, it's like you're looking for something in particular, if they are qualified they are qualified. I bet they didn't even list someone who was something other than white who would have been qualified even though there are so many great African Americans, Native Americans, and Asians. If you choose for someone because of their race then you're being racist again!

message 24: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
There was this one student, TJ I think his name was, who was a white boy who thought he was a black gangster type, and he was so offended when the teacher told him his answers made him racist. It was pretty entertaining.

message 25: by April (new)

April | 39 comments Any classes that have anything to do with MATH (don't get me going on how MUCH I can't stand math) ahhhhh!!!

message 26: by Molly (new)

Molly (slinkyxo) | 153 comments pretty much any science or math class is the worst class for me.

message 27: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker My least favorite has got to be my literary criticism class. I just don't see the point of it, other than, as one of the readings said, the powers that be in the late 19th, early 20th centuries decided that anyone can read, so they had to add criticism to make being an English major unpleasant enough to be valid. I'd agree with this statement. I can't imagine anyone taking this class for "fun".

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

my least favorite class is biology, that i took a few semesters ago, it was a summer class and it consisted of 4 hrs from 6pm to 10pm, it was insane we had notes the size of giant dictionaries and packets of papers stapled together with more notes than any average person could handle and on top of that we had 100 question tests and quizes every week it was brutal but i just went to every class and did the best i could and got a B for the course at the end of the semester, the only thing i learned from the teacher is that "pain is your friend"

message 29: by Keara (new)

Keara Clifford (KearaClifford) | 22 comments math. I am just... horrible at it. Oh.. and french since I took Chinese in High School and that is no way similar so I struggle really badly with it because everyone else in class took it for four years in HS.

message 30: by Matthieu (last edited Mar 26, 2009 03:11PM) (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments History of the Unconscious/Jungian Reasoning. It's a wonderful subject in theory, but the professor ruins it. Words would fall short in describing my contempt for this class. The fact that it's at 9:30 in the morning doesn't help.

message 31: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 145 comments History of Modern Korea.

Sounds interesting, doesn't it? It couldn't be a worse biweekly hour-and-a-half of my life. I suppose I should be grateful it's 4-5:30pm and not the early am? Except I get so sleepy by the end of the day, and the professor knows my name.

message 32: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 130 comments I'll trade you my HotU/JR for your HoMK, Nools. I despise morning classes.

message 33: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker So I skipped my criticism class on Thursday and I was in the English building later for an English Club officers meeting. I'm not certain, but I think my professor walked by and saw me. I'm trying to figure out what to say, if anything...

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

My SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) class. I hate computers, and I couldn't figure it out. To top it off, the lecturer was a complete nightmare, everyone hated him.

message 35: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (watercolorfire) A Better Planet by Design. It's an environmental engineering class that was totally advertised wrong--as an intro-level course, no prerequisites. The first day the professor said it wouldn't be math intensive for more than a week. STILL MATH INTENSIVE! It was recommended for non-science majors, and I am definitely not great in science. It's like 3 1/2 hours of hell every week. :(

Anybody have any of their least favorite classes this semester?

message 37: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
All 4 of my current classes would qualify. I think they all were a complete waste of time. Not extremely difficult but oh so boring! Only a week left though! Yay!

message 38: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Accouting. I hate it. But my school has trimesters so I'll be stuck in this class until the end of February.

message 39: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Jen, I love accounting. Obviously since I do it every day. I guess class always depended upon who was teaching it. I have had horrid teachers and wonderful teachers. I am sorry you aren't enjoying it.

message 40: by Natanya (new)

Natanya (vraisemble) | 255 comments So I've only taken all of 4 classes in college, but my least favorite class this semester is definitely my astronomy class. I took astro 195 instead of 101 because 195 is "observational astronomy," and I thought it would be nice to actually get to look at the stars. Unfortunately, it was cloudy nearly every Wednesday night when we had lab, and by the time it sort of stopped being too cloudy, it was 28 degrees and I was too cold to enjoy looking at the stars. And, the professor, though an awesome person, kind of sucks. I'm bad at math and science, and he seems to assume that we're all decent at it. Needless to say, I know very little for next week's final.

Fortunately, I loved my comparative literature professor this semester and my soc class was pretty interesting, so that balanced it out.

Alessia (allieonthemoon) Bree wrote: "yuck..physics! I was the same way Kelsey..i tried so hard to get it..but it was just so hard for me..my brain couldn't do it."

physics was my worst subject too! I remember hating it back in my firts year: when I entered medical school I thought we were doing something *actually* related to medicine from the beginning or at least biology. Instead our first classes were physics, chemistry and statistics all through the first semester. It was a huge disappointment. And though I studied physics a lot I just managed to get 24/30 (we don't use the ABC system here).

message 42: by Lori (last edited Dec 10, 2009 04:39AM) (new)

Lori Walker I've hated my French lit class all semester because I haven't enjoyed what we've read. Thankfully, my final for that class will be over in less than 6 hours. And on an even more bright note, it's my last French class ever (although I'd like to take to 20th century French lit class that's being offered in the spring).

message 43: by Alessia (new)

Alessia (allieonthemoon) what did they make you read Lori? I studied some French literature during high school but I used to like it!

message 44: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker It was really the poetry that I didn't like. I think I would have liked Baudelaire, but we covered him and 2 other poets on the last day of class. But Romantic poetry in general is not my favorite.

message 45: by Jess (new)

Jess I'm currently taking Calculus (for my Math & Statistics for the Social Sciences requirement) as a senior, so I haven't taken "math" in four years. It's definitely my least favorite class in all of college. :(

message 46: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Ugh. I hate math in general, Jess. And Calculus bored me to death. I feel for you. It's especially frustrating when you haven't taken a math course in a while.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I love maths, I just can't do them....

Classical social thought last year sucked. It was unfortunate, because it should have been really interesting learning about Marx, Durkheim and Weber. However, our lecturer...oh man, he always used to wear beige clothes. Which summed him up really; beige clothes, beige personality.

message 48: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Well, seeing Marx reminded me of my other least favorite class ever...Literary Criticism and Analysis. If I hadn't taken that class when I decided to become a history major, I would have dropped my English degree...but since I suffered through it, I wasn't about to let that be for nothing.

message 49: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I'm sorry Jess. I enjoyed my last Calculus class (I had to take the same class 3 times, but that it another story) but it really wasn't the subject. Our teacher was a riot.

Math came pretty natural, so until I got to that level, I really didn't have to think. Yes, I am that person most people hate. Didn't have to study or really try for any grade in any math class. I know it drove my sisters insane. And my parents couldn't help me with my homework after about 5th grade. :)

message 50: by Jess (new)

Jess I know! Only a few more days, though, and I'll hopefully be done with math. Whoo! Today was the last day of classes, and my final for Calculus is on Tuesday. Thank goodness. :)
