Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I am bored and just wanted to share my frustration that I buy too mnay books. I have over 50 unread books at home and in my office and yet I still buy more.

I just brought New Moon but yet to read Twilight (I have that too), The Cider House Rules, The Time Travelers Wife, The History of Love, lullaby, The Library Diaries, & Shanatram.

I also have a few taken out from the library as well as on request. Blindness, a Golden Age, The Book of Lost Things and I astill have to return The Book Thief.

AND people keep giving me there books. I am telling you I think I will open my own bookstore or library!!!

Does anyone else have a habit of buying and trading?

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments My book addiction came from this group....

Before, I would only buy books that I absolutely loved,

And then,

I started to go to Chapters more, and now I have about 22 new books!

message 3: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I think GR only added to my addiction. I can't read all the books in the groups but I try.

message 4: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I was more of a Library girl until GR.

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Have you found any treasures from TNBBC?

message 6: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Well I really liked The Book Thief and I have recommended it to my BC at work and so far I got a lot of praise for recommending it.

You?

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hmmm........

The Book Thief was very good, but that's about the only book I've read with this group! I definitely eager to read Dracula.

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I've not had the buying problem too too much because I TRY to get the books from the library first. So I was JUST looking at my library request list and I'm a bit piled under myself. I have three here already checked out that need to be read, three being held for me that I have only a few days to go pick up and 4 that I just added to my request list that I am the only requester, which means that the library will be calling me in a day or so for me to pick those up too. And the problem is that I have the 2 week deadline to return them (unless no one else is requesting them I can renew them) My request list is about 25 books long right now and luckily I am not first on the list for all of them... LOL!

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Wow! LOL! I have a friend who has about 40 holds. I'm not kidding!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Donna! Long time no chat.

I feel your pain. My shelves are bursting at the seams and I continue to buy. I haven't done any trading, though. I had this addiction prior to GR but I would say it has gotten worse since.

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I've been starting to control myself. Less time at Chapters, more time reading. Although, I think by November, that will all change. :P

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Anyone buying a specific genre??? Or is it at random?

message 13: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I'm proud to say that I haven't brought any new books although I have been tempted. I just keep reminding myself I don't have the room. However, that hasn't stopped me from going to the library and going crazy. I have no holds, but I check out way too many than I can read in the time period allotted. I keep renewing them and will stay up late or stay away from GR to read them all. I was bad before but it has gotten worse since I've discovered this site. I've even become more OCD with my book lists.

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, it's so true though! The organizing has gone through the roof for me. Which books I'm going to read, what genre, everything is much more planned than before. Jackie, that's awesome, the library is so great, and the librarians are always nice. :)

message 15: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Oh it has gotten SOOOOO much worse since TNNBC. I go to the library at least once a week, so I have usually 5 from there waiting to be read. Then, I have been going to thrift stores and buying like crazy. But when they are .25-$1.00 each, it's hard to resist. My library sale starts Sunday, which is one day before my birthday, so you know what that means!!! And don't get me started on the books I have bought because of recommendations from all of you people!!!

message 16: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Which by the way, Thank you all very much!!lol

message 17: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments lol, Happy Birthday Ann! I hope you have a good time! (Which I'm sure you will if you go book shopping).

message 18: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Thanks, but my husband CANNOT know anything about any books entering my house!! lol

message 19: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, you'll have to sneak them in? Oh boy, that might be a problem....lol.

message 20: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I have a big van... I have my ways..hehehe

message 21: by Emma (last edited Sep 24, 2008 10:51AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Ahhh, well that's good! I think all book lovers need a van so we can sneak our buys into the house without our significant others (or pets) seeing.

message 22: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) You know it's gotten bad when you're sneaking around the house. lol.

message 23: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, true, verrrryyyy true.

message 24: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Are still at home sick Emma?

message 25: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Yeah.....it's getting better though.

message 26: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Glad to hear that. I wish I was home so I could read. lol. I checked out too many books from the library and the pile is now making me anxious every time I look at it.

message 27: by Emma (last edited Sep 24, 2008 11:07AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments LOL! I know the feeling, before GR, I had about 20 books. I had no idea how I was supposed to carry them all back! Actually, I haven't been reading, just on GR. I can't really read when I'm sick. The stuffy nose bothers me.

message 28: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Hello0o0o0 Jeremy.

I ahven't been on that much as I am tooooo busy READING LOL.

My request at the library is not that bad since I try not to let it get passed 5 books.

AND although I live in NYC I can not find a good enough used book store that would have the books I want. So I go to Half.com and get cheapies there. But during my lunch break I just get bored and go to Posman books in GCT.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Very very true Ken. Being surrounded by books makes everything homey. I can only hope that one day I have a collection as big as yours!

message 30: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments We have a lot of used bookstores around here, I need to use them more! They're closer than Chapters. About 15 minutes away.

message 31: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Stuffy noses are bad =(

I take a cloth bag with me and try to stuff as many books as I can. It helps to leave my hands free so I can browse or pick up more books. lol.

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, yeah, my hands are always full at Chapters, I left them on a bookshelf one time and the woman REORGANIZED them! I had to wait for her to stop and then take the same copies back again! (Because, they were in the best condition).

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Funny you should say that, Donna. With the numbers of people in NYC I would think that there would be used books galore.

message 34: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Well there is but mostly downtown and I am midtown and there are B&N's everywhere but who wants to go there? Borders is my fave simply 'cause they always have sales but my dream would be to open up a used bookstore where you can buy and trade.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I have the same dream. Only add coffee and reasonably priced snacks.

message 36: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Seems like Borders and Barles and Noble are the main bookstores. Yes, a used bookstore would be amazing. If I ever go to NY, I would definitely go there! :)

message 37: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments AND I always wanted one of those huge, antiquish libraries that you see in the movies or in museums.

I will ive in The Morgan Library soon enough LOL

message 38: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments We do have Strand which has been there for God only knows how long but as I said it is a trip over there.

The have old & new and nothing is the real price. Everything is always cheaper.

Oh how could I forget Coffee it goes together like PB&J

message 39: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments LOL!

message 40: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Tea and books for me! Ice chais specifically.

message 41: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Well, at least you know the deals! Used books are always good.

message 42: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Target aklways has good prices on books too. But Half.com is way cheaper than Amazon you should check it out.

I need to save money too especially since I am in library Science school.

I don't think many librarian's get paid that much but who cares so long as I love what I am doing.

message 43: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I love the smell of old books!!!

message 44: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I know!! It's my favorite smell.

message 45: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments It's kinda the same as Amazon. It is sponsered by eBay

message 46: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Ahh, I have to check them out! I love book shopping online! It's great when the books come home.

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, have they cut you off?

message 48: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Thats what I call dedication! And an addiction.

message 49: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, it's alright, I love long posts! Maybe it's because I love to read...

message 50: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments The worst part about bookstroes is that there is not enough of them.

There are two malls by me and neither of them have bookstores. The closeest one to me in 20 minutes away.

Try to find one in Brooklyn I dare ya!!
