Tinea (pist) OK, the May Book Selection topic was full of good ideas, but we never set a deadline for ourselves and nothing came out as a strong consensus either, so it kind of a pittered out. On my side I traveled unexpectedly for like 3 months straight which killed my ability to participate or facilitate: apologies!

But let's try again. How about we use the next two weeks, until August 1, to decide on a book to read for the next two months (August and September). I hope with a longer time to discuss the book, more people can actually get copies and have time to read despite hectic schedules & different reading paces. If we plow through this and want to pick another book for Sept, we can decide late-August. <3

So... SUGGEST BOOKS UNTIL 25 JULY
[you can get ideas from the group bookshelf]
then we'll discuss and choose by 31 JULY

My suggestions:
The Coming Insurrection by Comité invisible
...I'm already reading it, but very slowly. Would love to discuss!

The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon
Suggested by abclaret last May. Really want to read this at some point.

Conquest Sexual Violence and American Indian Genocide by Andrea Lee Smith
Again, short but supposedly very powerful. Would make a good contrast to the anarchist theory we've been reading as a group (Bakunin, Graeber, Vaneigem).

Brandon | 3 comments I have a copy of the "Coming Insurrection" but have yet to get started on it. I guess my vote goes toward that one, though I certainly would like to read your other suggestions as well.

At some point I would like to read this as well.Lucy Parsons: Freedom, Equality & Solidarity - Writings & Speeches, 1878-1937

I also have a hard copy of TCI and we just happen to be starting it in my real-life anarchist study group. Would be cool to have an online corollary! It also helps that its readily available online. So yeah, my vote is for that I guess.

justdave (justdavid) | 7 comments Hi.
My votes.
1st choice: The Wretched of The Earth
2nd: Conquest
3rd: TCI I've read this one already and I found it to be a bit highfalutin, but I wouldn't mind re-reading and getting everyone's input.
Maybe I'm just obtuse.

Tinea (pist) Looks like a lot of people are leaning towards The Coming Insurrection, with some other interests.

I put a poll up here so we can get a visual.

Polls ends July 28th. Discuss here, and let's try for a consensus by July 31st.

Tinea (pist) OK, it's 5 for TCI and 2 for Wretched of the Earth. Michael & Justdave, what say you we read the Coming Insurrection next, and keep Wretched of the Earth in mind when we discuss the following book?
