stormhawk I knew that there were paranormal elemnets to this book going in. I mean, come on, it's called "A Discovery of Witches." How much clearer could that be?

And there's tingly spell-sensing in the early pages.

But why, oh why, didn't anyone warn me that this was another of those thrice-damned "My Boyfriend is a vampire" novels.

Like we needed another one of those.

At least, unlike Twilight, it's readable. And yes, I am damning it with faint praise.

There's a lot of "stuff" that happens. Forbidden love, threats, world travelling, mysterious chateaus, aloof parents, even an occasionally ghostly apparition. And thankfully, no one sparkles.

But then I realized I was running out of pages before I was running out of story ...

It says "a novel" on the front cover.

That should mean that it is "a novel."

There's a lot of trees that gave their lives for this 579 page doorstop of a book ... SO WHAT YOU YOU MEAN IT'S NOT DONE??

Apparently there are going to be two more. Or at least two more. And because these things only ever get bigger, I'll predict they go over 700 pages each before it's finished.

Karen B. (raggedy11) Stormhawk you make me laugh. I loved this book, tolerated Twilight, never read the rest of the Twilight books. But for the most part I hate the whole vampire book thing also. But what makes me laugh is how different all of us are.

One of the books everyone seemed to love but I just could not get into was "The Room". I finally stopped reading it hoping I will want to pick it up again some other time.

I just love how we all are different.

John Conolley (john_conolley) | 56 comments Yeah, I read the beginning of Discovery of Witches and thought, man, this is great, fantasy, history, what's not to love? Only that I paid good money to take home a cheap romance novel.

Courtney (romeo_and_ghouliet) | 3 comments I hated this book. It's basically if Bella had moved to London instead of Forks, WA (or where ever it was).

stormhawk Well ... the main character of Discovery of Witches wasn't quite so inarticulate as she.

And Bella couldn't do magick.

But I see where you're coming from and I don't entirely disagree.

Maslela | 3 comments I definitely prefer Twilight over this book. This one lacks originality, and it was so predictable.
