Werner | 2693 comments Werner Lind, checking in! I was raised in the Midwest, but now live in Bluefield, VA (in the Appalachian mountains).

My top read in the past year was Krisi Keley's debut novel, On the Soul of a Vampire. And my all-time favorite book is the Bible.

1. Where are you from? I am an Air Force brat so not sure where I am from but current living in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado.

2) What was your top read in the last year? Born on a Blue Day

3) What is your top read of all time? My favorite book of all time is Afternoon of an Autocrat by Norah Lofts. It has two titles and I guess the one for England is The Devil in Clevely. I do not like that title. I lived in Suffolk for a year and so became interested in Norah Lofts books as she writes mainly about Suffolk.

Erin E (elizamc) Hi Everyone,

Great idea!

Erin, I hail from N. Saanich BC (I live between Sidney BC: "The booktown by the sea" and Victoria BC: a coffee and tea lovers paradise)

Top read last year, I think I am with Charly, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane... It was a GREAT read!

Top read of all time, still looking... it's such a tough call!

Nicole | 1752 comments I'm from Albuquerque, NM. (Yes, I actually know Syra "for real.")
MY top read for the last year is Hat Full of Sky by Terry Pratchett.
My top read of all time is The Once and Future King by T.H. White.

message 6: by Erin E (new)

Erin E (elizamc) That would be great! I am interested to see what was the most popular.

I still think its a good idea. Sometimes August is just a month in which we tend to go into a slump...at least I do. The humidity is just 14% but at least the temperatures are lower unlike other parts of the country where friends are having 101. I think half of KS might be up here right now based on license plates.

message 8: by Erin E (new)

Erin E (elizamc) Charly, I like the idea, you were trying to invite/encourage people to stop by and get to know people, and this is a way to get people chatting.

Alice has it right too, it's August and a lot of people are heading back to work or trying to squeese the last little dredges of summer into what little Vacation time they have left. I am sure things will pick up soon.

Another thing I simply love on some other groups are the polls. People do them and then they make comments if they feel like it. Some polls may have 50 comments attached. They are a good way for me to participate when my arthritis is acting up and I find it hard to type.

Reggia | 2533 comments Officially checking in... or is that virtually? Hope both old and new alike will join in so we can get to know each other a little better. :-)

Where are you from? Born in DC, spent most of my life in MD and currently living in AZ.

What was your top read in the last year? Last year was not a good reading year, not that there were so many bad books but that my concentration level was way-y down. Yikes! just checked my list and it looks rather scanty but I think I got the most enjoyment from a small nonfiction read called The Complete Dream Book.

What is your top read of all time? This is always such a hard question! Narrowing it down to three: Pride and Prejudice, Don Quixote and Their Eyes Were Watching God.

message 15: by Erin E (new)

Erin E (elizamc) Sorry I'm still tending to long moments of MIA, but things are getting better and I'm just sad sometimes when I think about my ex-quasi-husband.

I LOVE Pride and Prejudice!!

message 17: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2693 comments Erin, if any of us were with you in person, we'd give you an encouraging hug, but consider this a virtual one. (And I'll echo your praise for Pride and Prejudice; it got five stars from me, too!)

message 18: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) Hi everyone -

1. I'm from Stratford, CT.

2. One of my top reads in the past year was The Help.

message 19: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) Is there a thread for that? I need to peruse the discussion boards.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Folks

My all time favorite ...wow, that is a hard one .

I Know This Much is True

Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All .

** Sorry, couldn't narrow it down any further .

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Charly
Good to meet you too . Nope ,I'm not from N. Canton, but my husband works there ,so it isn't a very far jaunt from here to there .Maybe about 40 minutes .

message 22: by Erin E (new)

Erin E (elizamc) Thanks Werner, things are getting better as time goes by.

message 23: by Werner (new)

Werner | 2693 comments You're welcome, Erin. Hang in there!

message 24: by Judith (new)

Judith I have never been part of anything on line -- I'm not even on facebook so bear with me as I try to figure this out. The last posting here was Nov 2011 or am I missing something?

Here goes: I live in Chicago. My most recent book read was Dancing to the Precipice and I though it was great. Most recent favorite would have to be Wolf Hall. All time favorite is impossible -- too many -- all wonderful in their own way.

Would like to know if this is still an active site or am I talking to an empty room? Thanks.

message 25: by Reggia (new)

Reggia | 2533 comments Welcome, Judith! :) It gets a little quiet around here but we are most definitely still active.

You can scroll down to find more discussion folders; also, you are welcome to start new ones. Please, join right in and let us know if you need any assistance.

message 26: by Judith (new)

Judith Thanks for responding. Nice to know there is someone here.

message 27: by Erin E (new)

Erin E (elizamc) Hi Judith,

yes some of us are frequently around and others like myself get so absorbed with life we forget about our virtual life. Despite all that, I always feel welcome and blessed to be a part of this group.

message 28: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (zeldas) 1. Annapolis, MD

2. Drood

3. Heart of Darkness

I like this idea!

message 29: by Judith (new)

Judith Barbara: I was not familiar with Drood so looked it up. It sounds like something I would like to read so will download a sample and see. I am in upper Michigan at the moment with the drizzle coming down but considering we were within 20 miles of a big fire last week, very glad to have the drizzle. Gives me a good excuse to stay inside and read by the fire with my cat and my popcorn!

message 30: by Judith (new)

Judith Charley, thanks for the recommendation. Looked at the synopsis and it suggests two more books by the same author. Will definitely get the book -- it sounds like a good read.

message 31: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (zeldas) Charley, I also enjoyed The Last Dickens as well as Pearl's other novels.

message 32: by Brian (new)

Brian Hi Everyone! I am checking in from Timmins, Ontario, Canada. My favorite read from this year is "Mistborn" by Robert Sanderson, just brilliant. My favorite all time book is "Catcher In The Rye".

message 33: by Reggia (new)

Reggia | 2533 comments Hi Brian, and welcome to the group! :-) Please forgive me for not noticing this post sooner. I hope you will find something of interest here, and join in!
