The Uglies Series

Summary: Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license -- for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world -- and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

The Romance Bookie (theromancebookie) | 47 comments This book was really good! I originally didn't think I was going to like it, because normally I don't read these types of books, but I am soooo glad I gave it a try because it was great!

Lore (lorenotlorax) | 198 comments This book was awesome.

It was the book that got me started on the whole genre of dystopian fiction.

Rarietty | 141 comments That book was really good, probably my favorite in the trilogy.

Angela (angieerickson) | 452 comments I loved this book and I love Scott Westerfed!
Scott Westerfeld has an incredibly imaginative mind and he uses historical truths integrated with his creative works to bring a realistic fantasy to life. Everything he writes is original, with a great story line and characters with depth and realism. Westerfeld has become one of my NEW favourite YA authors. Wow, I sound obsessed!

I love the futuristic gadgets in Uglies and hearing about how we, the rusties, have destroyed the world. It really does make you think...what will the future hold for us?

I've read Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld and Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld and can't wait to read the next two, Specials (Uglies, #3) by Scott Westerfeld and Extras (Uglies, #4) by Scott Westerfeld .

I've also read his Peeps Series Peeps by Scott Westerfeld The Last Days (Peeps #2) by Scott Westerfeld and when I finish the Uglies I plan to read his Midnight Series The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Touching Darkness (Midnighters, #2) by Scott Westerfeld Blue Noon (Midnighters, #3) by Scott Westerfeld .

Natalia (taly) | 4 comments I loved this book, was definitely awesome...I love it because is the beggining of an amazing story...what can I say? with just remember the story makes me want to read it again :D

This is also what got me interested in dystopian fiction. I read this and the immediately went into The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset by Suzanne Collins

I went on a dystopian fiction binge and now when i think back on the books, most of the blend together....I also loved The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist

Cayla (caylad4) | 1 comments I loved the Uglies series, but it was also bland at the same time. It's hard to describe. It was AMAZING. But bland...
But i still loved it!!♥

My favorite was pretties, because i think being a pretty was really fun!

Jess Hunger Games really got me onto a dystopian/sci-fi kick as well and a lot of books did sort of blend together. Uglies series was a stand out for me based on the first book but it really felt watered down by the end.

Erica Fosmoe (ericaejw968) | 1 comments I have to admit that I was bored with Uglies. I finished the series just to see how it turned out but reading it after Hunger Games and Unwind just left it LACKING.

Roxanne Walls (caffeineanddesperation) | 6 comments I think I liked it because it felt 'close' to the near future. I mean, in the book, society's standard for beauty is magnified tenfold, along with all of its consequences. I thought it was a phenomenal series.

Oh! I understand what you mean. Some of the Dystopian YA books of today have gotten so good as compared to the earlier ones. If you read The Uglies Series after Hunger Games and Unwind, I know exactly where you are coming from. Those books are pretty high up there fo me. lol But I read the Uglies series before those two, like right when they came out, so I absolutely loved them. :')

Alex I picked this series up on a whim at my school library. I saw people reading it the year before and I wanted to know if it was as good as people said. And it was.

Arielle I really liked this book! It was, I think the first dystopian book I read, so it was pretty unique for me! Anyway, I for one thought it was awesome! But after the first book I think the rest of the books in the series were not as good. Even so, the Uglies is usually my go-to read when I have nothing to read :))

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments So good! I finally got my wife to start reading it :)

Pamela (waterspout) | 370 comments lol good job David!

Sabrina Winters I'm really excited to read these!

Neha (shearglacier) @Rachel
Is it just me or why do I always see your name everywhere? Don't worry I am not stalker. Lol, I am writing lol.

I read Uglies and Pretties, didn't finish either Specials nor Extras. Bored the living mind out of me!!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Sabrina wrote: "I'm really excited to read these!"

I think you'll love them :)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Rachel wrote: "I read them fairly fast. Great book, but I think the series went down hill after Uglies. If I were to rate each book out of ten.
Uglies: 9
Pretties:8
Specials: 6 1/2
Extras: 4
(I am about 3/4 of ..."

Uglies was my favorite too, but I think I liked Specials and Extras a little more than you. But I do agree that each book was slightly not as good as the previous :)

What I did really like with each book was (view spoiler)

message 25: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) If only the Goodreads app let you see the "spoilers removed" thing.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments Do you mean you can't see the spoiler I added? That's annoying!

message 27: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) Let me guess you're using the goodreads app. I have not used goodreads on the computer, ever since my laptop's screen is all like "I'm going to fall off soon!!"

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments LOL! I'm on my laptop, but even when I'm on my iPhone I never use the app as I hate it haha :)

message 29: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) You've got to be kidding me. Well, I just learned something today.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments It's not really a huge spoiler, so I guess I'll just say it...MINOR SPOILER *** I like how the author remade Tally's character completely as her brain was changed. So cool! *** MINOR SPOILER OVER

message 31: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) Yep, that's a spoiler. I already read the book so I know. Hope nobody who hasn't read it looks at it. Lol

message 32: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) Whenever I see "spoilers ahead or something like that" I just have to read even though I know it's going to ruin it.

message 33: by Neha (new) - rated it 3 stars

Neha (shearglacier) I'm just too curious and then when I read the spoilers I don't want to read it since I know what's going to happen. I did that with Allegiant, but eventually I started to read it.
