If you can think it, there's a pron for it. And it will probably kill you. :D
Now I have to decide whether I'm willing to risk bringing this one to work with me since I usually sit outside and read a little first. :D
Hrm. I'll have to see if there's an ebook for this.
Le sigh... this is an instance where having to read the eBook is annoying. eBooks shouldn't be $13. >_<
Anywho, I was looking at what else this author has written and I've wanted to read his Laundry Files series. Mostly cause I downloaded a free short story from that series, but still... this'll be a nice introduction to it.
Katt: Do you know if you have to read the first book in this series to get this one? I'd hate to start a series with the second book, but if it's mostly stand alone stuff than it's not really a problem.

Edit: Katt: And yeah, what JK said. I'm kinda swamped again with books but I will read the first one if I can squeeze it in.

I got this one as a freebie-fill in with a recent book order. It was either Rule 34, Wiseman's Fear, or the latest Dresden. I'm behind on the Dresden ones and waiting for Wiseman's Fear to go softcover or discount bin so I got this one. I'm thinking that it's enough of a stand-alone novel that getting into it shouldn't be a big deterent. Usually in 'sequel' books, the dustjacket makes a big deal of how it's 'continuing the story from that other book' but there's no mention of the that in my copy at least.
From the descriptions of the books and some of the reviews, I don't think it'll make a difference.
Alright, so I started reading this last night... and I don't know about it. The author writes "you do do this and this" for whatever the character is doing. It's really weird. It's like he's trying to put me in the shoes of this character, but... that doesn't work. It just comes across as some cheese ball game or something. Not sure how much of this book I'll be able to read. =\
And the written accents... uhg. I hate those. More often than not it's just annoying and takes too much time to figure out what the hell the character is actually saying.

Yeah, I am finding the whole "you are doing this" a bit weird, not liking that aspect of it so far. I find if I read the bizzare accent parts outloud it's easier to decifer, I don't like that it's necessary. grrr. Not liking this book so far. Storyline isn't bad but it seems like the author has gone out of his way to make it annoying!

I'll admit... I didn't get very far. I gave it a couple chapters and then called it quits. >_<
It just seemed like I was reading a game... like a paper, adventure game or something. :D I kept expecting to be asked what I'd like to do.

I understand completely, I haven't given up yet but I don't know if I actually will finish this or not.

I was going to say that it reminds me of one of those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books only with all the choices already picked so you don't find yourself floating frozen in space or dead by Zombie Lincolns.
...I'm going to read it like that... <.< >.>

Well once you get past the written dialect and the odd format it's actually a rather intersting book, imnsho.
I finished this book, the ending is not quite what I expected but I liked it.
Can I just say.. the contents of that suitcase.. EWWW, NASTY!!!

DI Liz Kavanaugh: You realise policing internet porn is your life and your career went down the pan five years ago. But when a fetishist dies on your watch, the Rule 34 Squad moves from low priority to worryingly high profile. Anwar: As an ex-con, you'd like to think your identity fraud days are over. Especially as you've landed a legit job (through a shady mate). Although now that you're Consul for a shiny new Eastern European Republic, you've no idea what comes next. The Toymaker: Your meds are wearing off and people are stalking you through Edinburgh's undergrowth. But that's ok, because as a distraction, you're project manager of a sophisticated criminal operation. But who's killing off potential recruits? So how do bizarre domestic fatalities, dodgy downloads and a European spamming network fit together? The more DI Kavanaugh learns, the less she wants to find out.
