Hey authors: What's the no. 1 question you get about your book(s)?

newest »

I think mine would be: do you use your real-life in your books?
Answer: not on purpose. When I sit down to write, I feel like I'm in another world (and invading other people's lives--my characters'). If any bits of my life seep in, it's unintentional. But I do think my experiences definitely shape what I write about. I don't think there's any way to avoid that.

Answers: Because I can't. Because so many movies of books we like suck. By the end of 2012, I hope.

Having finally taken the plunge and published my first novel (after 15 years hard labour - actually, make that fun!), I guess the question people ask me the most is: "What inspired you to start writing?"
I like the question because it hints at the storyteller trapped somewhere inside everyone. It reveals the secret dreamer that runs free during childhood and again, later in life, when stroking our child's forehead at bedtime. It confesses that, deep inside whatever adult shields we wear from day-to-day, we like to let our imaginations run free.
My answer, sadly, is a little more boring: One day, I simply couldn't find anything to read in my local bookshop. Back then, the internet (and fantastic resources like this site) were themselves just Sci-Fi... and, a good job too... or I'd have never "had a crack" at it. :)
With warmest regards, Anthony

Having finally taken the plunge and published my first nove..."
That is a great answer Anthony! I like the idea that everyone is a secret dreamer with wild imaginations! I wish more people were whimsical and able to enjoy cutting loose more often!

Answer: Generally, the answer is no. I don't do sequels. But someday, hopefully, I'll write one to Firefly Lane, but I have no idea when...

"I am thinking about writing a book. How do I get it published?" I tell them write the book! Then worry about the details. As every author knows it is a long way from, 'once upon a time' to 'the end' in your first book.

"OMG, do you *know* someone like Mallory?!"
(The answer: No. And whew.)
