Ubik | 87 comments Im new here so I apologise if this has been asked/answered before, but in my moderating, Ive already come across two situations where I didnt know what to do in regards to cover art. Specifically these:

Survivor: A Novel

I have that book with that ISBN, but my cover art looks like: this

Gun, with Occasional Music

My copy, again, is the same ISBN, publisher, etc, BUT my artwork looks like: this

There doesnt seem to be a way of adding an additional cover image and I dont want to delete the other one either...is there anything that can be done?

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Ubik, You can manually enter your edition. Put the ISBN in the book description field but not the ISBN field. Enter all book information and download your cover. Then you can combine (or have a librarian combine) your manually added edition with the other edition(s) of that book.

Seth (ninjaaaaaofwritingbooks) | 8 comments I changed the photo. If that is okay.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Actually Seth, It's not really ok because many members might have that book with the photo that was removed. It's not uncommon for a book to have different editions with the same ISBN but different covers, so we don't remove existing covers. I'm a bit foggy these days on our guidelines but the last I knew was NOT to delete covers but that it was ok to add covers, although then it's necessary to not put the ISBN in its field to avoid duplicate ISBNs.

Ubik | 87 comments Thank you Lisa! I think I will do that. I didnt want to flood the database unnecessarily with another "edition" if the only difference was the cover art, but if thats the only way....

Would it be possible in the future to allow for multiple cover arts for the same entry?

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments Ubik, Many have asked for this. You can post this as a request in the Goodreads Feedback group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...

Either in the thread the infamous to do list in the welcome folder or (probably better) as a new post in the suggestions & questions folder.

(I'm sorry; I can't find existing threads about this, but I know that they are there.)

In the mean time, perhaps you can just photoshop and merge both covers into one image (?). Just my two cents :D

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments James, Sometimes there are way too many covers to do that.

Renata Beltrão | 1 comments I have the same problem all the time. If I add the ISBN in the description, will users be able to find the book (with this particular cover, of course) through the search field?

message 10: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31381 comments They won't find it through the search field if they search by isbn, but will find it if searching by title or author.

Once on the book page, if its combined correctly, they can find it easily.
