Page 434 - Diana said "You won't hurt me." Bella Swan also said this as you know.
Possibly hundreds of other heroines have said this too but I just didn't notice.
Matthew says..."It's like a drug - a highly addictive, dangerous drug that other creatures are desperate to share."

Also I don't think much of a similarity can be noted between Carlisle and Matthew, as Carlisle is using his learning to protect and say, as a way to redeem himself in the eyes of humans. I think in someways Matthew's reasoning for being in a field of science and medicine is far less altruistic.
I prefer Diana to Bella, when I was reading the Twilight series I wanted to shake and smack Bella quite a bit, until the last book when she seemed to suddenly "grow-up" - I am an "awk!" and timid person, but I do not think people have urges to slap me as often as I have wanted to slap Bella in the past.
That being said I found it impressive how little Diana cared about her upbringing, that made me a little shocked. I am interested to see how this changes in the next book.
Erin E wrote: "There are probably parallels between any book - That being said, what about the idea that vampire blood is highly addictive which is mentioned (I am told) time and time again in the Southern Vampir..."
I read all the Charlaine Harris books and only remember her brother Jason as being addicted to vampire blood but I do have a bad memory which is one reason I can read books over and over again.
Yes, I agree with you that Matthew is far less altruistic which is more realistic to me. Carlisle is so much like a saint but I really liked him. I usually don't care so much for those so virtuous. I prefer the bad guys slightly more.
Right now...about page 703...Matthew is having to rescue Diana at every turn so I had to quit reading it as I was getting annoyed. She can't even get herself out the door when she starts to cry her witchwater. It seems she could walk outside instead of flooding the house. She has been hurt but this is just too wimpy for me. I was really angry with her until I found out her mother had spellbound Diana. I couldn't understand why she refused to use some of her amazing endless powers as a witch. Do you notice how everyone waits on her right and left from the time she leaves Oxford?
I am not sure what you mean about how little Diana cared about her upbringing. Could you elaborate? Thanks for discussing this with me. Now that I am reaching the end of the book I do not notice so many similarities to Twilight but it really got to me at first. I enjoyed it as I want another Twilight book so bad. Twilight is like drug to me. ;-)

I did not find Diana's reactions and inability to control her magic irritating, so much as I felt her helplessness. She is not able to control these things because she lacks the training that other witches have had from the start. If she had never been spellbound, she would have had a chance to learn and control these intense emotions and bouts of magic.
I have never read the entire series by Charlaine Harris, I made it halfway into book two and wanted to start punching people because I felt the characters were in a phrase; "stupid backwater idiots who can't figure it out even with a map and a flashlight." It reads like a terrible soap opera in backwater Alabama, and I loathe books that are "soapy chick-lit".
I will say though that anyone who LOVED Twilight, and is looking for something more grown-up. With a stronger female lead and a less wishy-washy male lead this is it. I enjoyed the Twilight series, and I will still read Breaking Dawn, cover to cover with no sleep and no stopping. But Bella and Edward still need some slapping around and my heart continually goes out to Jacob, someone cut that stalker some slack! (yes I called Jacob a stalker)
But I digress, this book is an incredible read and if the second book does not get published soon I think I might die!

Yes, I am almost finished as I only lack reading about 50 pages. I am having trouble finishing as I haven't gotten bored. The book is just too long for me!

What an interesting thought that Jacob is a stalker. But Bella did keep encouraging him instead of giving him a clear message to stay gone. That is because she loved him also.
I doubt I will read the next one with Diana. I don't care for time travel usually except for Somewhere in Time. I didn't care for the one with Clare and Henry ...can't think of the title of it. Genetics was used in it too as Henry (was that his name?) time traveled due to his genes.
This book was fantastic when it started out but for me it has gone down and down. It has rambled too much for my taste. I am very sure I won't read the next one unless I run into a bunch of neverending quiz questions and then I will read it in order to answer them maybe. I have read numerous books for that reason. I am so disappointed. There is nothing that comes close to the Twilight series for me.

I'm interested in the next novel because I am fairly certain that the time travelling bit will end badly, or at least not without some serious drama.
As for Jacob as much as I loved his character, I found his puppy like loyalty a long with his obsessive nature a little much.

Was posting this quote on another Twilight group and thought it might be appreciated here also.

1. how much Matthew is similar to Edward Cullen?
2. How much Matthew is similar to Carlisle?
a. he has worked in the medical field and is studying vampire, witch and daemon genetics (like Dr. Carisle was doing)
3. How often he puts Diana's hair behind her ear like guess who did in Twilight? Is this a common thing now for guys to do this?
I think its great but I just can't help noticing all these little similarities. Some say this is NOT true.
What do you think?
Of course I do not think Diana is anything like Bella Swan and I prefer Bella as I identify more with her. I was wrong as this book turns into a drag about halfway.....sorry! I got excited at first. Don't bother.
