Do you read more than one book at once?

Yes, but not more than three. If I read more than that I lose interest in the stories. I do better with one or two.

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 30 comments I'm usually reading at least one on Kindle for PC, 2-5 nonfiction for various research purposes, and anywhere from 1-3 fiction (at the moment, two YA and one historical romance). My record was reading 23 books at one time. That doesn't really work out very well.

I can relate to the losing interest thing. I'm finding it difficult to finish Inkheart and The Maze Runner. I started them over a year ago and although over halfway through both, I only read a few pages here and there. I don't think YA is a good fit for me. (Which is ironic since I have two short stories in an anthology marketed as YA.) I'm told Poison Study, The Hunger Games, and Uglies will all change my mind about YA, though.

Rachel | 37 comments I frequently read more than one book at a time. It matters the mood I am in or what I want to accomplish. I am also constantly rereading favorites, especially when I want to get in a specific mental mode to write. Or, sometimes, I use old favorites to simply inspire me to write again after a dry spell. There is nothing like reading something that touched you to incite the desire to write prose that will touch someone else. At least, that is how it works for me. :)

To make you feel better, Jaimey Grant, I barely managed to finish Inkheart and got so mad at the author while reading Inkspell I sold both books before I finished the second one. I haven't tried The Maze Runner, or the others, but The Hunger Games has been recommended to me by a few people I trust. I plan on picking it up eventually. Poison Study looks interesting, so does Uglies. We shall see. :) Not all YA is good reading material. Too much "teenage" angst and childish behavior can sometimes ruin a good YA plot.

Karin | 415 comments During the college semester, I am always reading more than one book at the same time. At the moment I am reading Frankenstein, Life-Span Human Development, Vita Nuova, and Petronius: Selections from the Satyricon for courses and 1 book on the Kindle. Although, I do agree that trying to read more than three can be difficult to keep up with.

Jen | 1 comments My problem is that I read too many books at once; I need several books to fit my mood. Now I'm only reading three but I have ten plus checked out from the library (I just can't say no if it looks good). I am trying to limit to one or two at a time and read outside historical fic, fantasy, YA. Scott Westerfeld's Uglies books are decent but his Leviathan series is a fabulous steampunk set in WW1. I wasn't a huge fan of Poison Study but Hunger Games is entertaining. One of the best YA series are the Jacky Faber books-in the early 1800's, a orphan girl masquerades on a British Man-of-War but there are many different adventures as the series progresses. Great characterization and as the series moves around the world, there is a realistic sense of place. Funny too!

Linda Boulanger (linda_boulanger) | 5 comments I usually have only one pleasure book at a time that I am reading (mostly because I am a start and don't put down until I stop kind of reader -- getting to the end becomes obsessive), at least one that I am editing or beta reading, multiples that I am reading bits and pieces of while I format for print or ebook, and I am currently writing several -- though I almost always work on one at a time with those even though I will work on one for a bit, put it down when the muse moves me to work on another, and then come back...

Rachel (ohdamnbatman) I thought I was the only one who had that problem. My fiance always asks me how I do it and laughs when I pick up a new book. I'm currently reading Atlas Shrugged, Dracula, Breaking open the head, Shroom, and the secret society of pickup artists. I read different books for different moods and sometimes different weather conditions.

I usually read a novel and a collection of poetry or short stories at the same time.

I usually have 2 books I'm reading at any given time. I usually have a book at home and one in my desk drawer at work for break times.

But if I'm reading one that I've already read and a new book I haven't read before comes out then I will start reading a third.
