Okay someone educate me on this Vamp series!

I second that! I think I marked some to read, but I wanna know more about it please!

Me too. I haven't read these. That might change really soon though. lol

I haven't read them yet (Kat asked me to put the thread up) but is the group read for 'My Vampire Obsession' (with whom we share many memebers) so I was planning on reading it this month....they look really good, and I have heard good things☺

its easily one of my favourites!
* i would say its mainly PNR and not so much urban fantasy. there's mystery, suspense and lots of romance.
* the relationship between Raphael and Cyn is amazing. She's human and is one steaming hot vampire lord. their chemistry is perfect and will make you seriously melt.
* Raphael is very intense, dark and powerful and everyone is scared shitless of him. for good reason.
* Cyn is a tough cool character kinda like how Cat is likeable and tough in NH series.
* it has lots of emotion, sex and he's a typical alpha vamp doing the "mine" thing. which i don't mind but i know some people do.
* the writing is great which is important to me. you can tell its a well thought out plot and not slapped together like some PNR's are.

have i convinced you yet? i'll continue...

* you can tell that Raphael is so old he seemed to be lost in the human world. but that's why Cyn is such a good match for him.
* you can tell i love him, can't you?
* but he's just one of the Lords. there are 7 others.
* the 2nd book is Jabril and he's pure evil.. didn't like him much but the book is great.
* the 3rd book is about Rajmund who's another to die for lord. not intense like Raphael but he's younger and more fun.
* and the 4th is Sophia. yes a female vampire Lord. very cool.
* Duncan's book is coming out the end of this year.

I can't recommend this series enough to you girls. its right up there with IAD, NH, LOU, BDB and Demonica for me. seriously! and its only $2.99 on Kindle.

Kat, so you said they are more PNR than UF? I think I added the UF (in the description/title) because the GRs page listed them as science fiction/fantasy, but from what I knew they were more PNR at the least...who know!lol Should I just list them as PNR you think?

I started this book (but I have to stop I have two ARC books I have to read and review first) and it was really good what little I have read! Can't wait to get back to them☺

I am not sure if it is a UF or PNR....my best guess is it feels like a PNR. I mean, the story does continue into book #2 and it is urban and all if Malibu CA is urban, but to me this is PNR.

Kat, you were dead on with your observations...although I think Cat is alot more over the top - tough. Somehow, no matter how tough Cyn is...and she is...I just can't see Cyn doing some of the hard-a$$ed things Cat does.

There is one section with Scott where I am glad the author did not make Cyn beg Raphael for his life. Not that I don't want my heroines to have a heart, but sometimes things are just out of their control. Her decision to respond how she did shows the depth of her character.

She measures the situation and understands that she is the outsider and knows what needs to happen....She justify s the outcome to Scott...in other words, I can't argue for your life, but I'll do what I can for your family - if you help. And she goes on thinking about where Scott went wrong. You can see she feels bad that he made such poor choices which wound him up in this situation.

Oh, all I can say is: The warehouse scene....WOW. If you read it you know what I mean. I love the way the author describes Raphael...like some rabid animal...:

"Raphael came through the door like a child's nightmare, his eyes glowing an almost solid silver with wrath, his gleaming fangs fully extended, blood painting his mouth a brilliant red, dripping from his chin to shine wetly against the tattered remains of his black shirt. His huge chest was heaving with the fury of his breath, and his hands curled into claws as his gaze found her and he growled a warning. 'Release her, human.'
'Who are you? the man rasped, fear taking away his breath, coarsening his voice.
'Release her.'
The man tightened his grip, 'Come closer and she dies.'
Rachael's mouth widened in a terrifying smile, 'You think to bargain with me?'"

And this is only the beginning of an amazing scene.

nice Katya! i LOVE that scene!! add a little more to it and everyone will be hooked... i totally agree about Cyn. she is one of the best female characters i have read. D.B. Reynolds is a writing genius...

HOLY CRAP! Starting this book tonight!lol

Another great line is when Cyn meets Raphael for the first time calls him Lord Raphael using the title as Lonnie had warned her to do...since he was vampire royalty. "And Raphael answers, 'And do call me Raphael. After all, you are human. You've no allegiance to me...as yet', he added softly. Cyn turns and stars at him, uncertain if she heard those final words."

What is it with the name Scott? First in book one Scott is the guy she takes pity on....In book Two Cyn tells the limo driver (who's name is Scott) that her boyfriend from High School or first boyfriend or something like that was named Scott.

Katya, i didn't love Jabril as much as the others. Rajmond is great! he's pretty sexy!

Hey, Kat, I just finished Jabril....I see your point-the first is better, but this book was fantastic!

I especially liked how Cyn got herself out of that final scene in the desert. Whew....I could feel her desperation and exhaustion.

And Cyn & Raphael in this book...my heart melted when he sat and talked to her on the grounds about his past and "Why." And I just love them finally getting together. That Raphael is a sexy sob!

Yes, this was a good book and on to book number 3. I am loving this series! Which book did you like the best besides the first?

Dumb question....about mating in DB Reynolds' Vampire world. In the first two books, they (Raphael & Cyn) don't call or refer to each other mates but boy/girlfriend, lover, Her's/His-things like that. But later on I understand they refer to Cyn as Raphael's Mate. Cyn also talks to Sara about the mating ritual. ("Vampires don't get married they have this whole Mating thing they do.") Is there such a ritual? or is it just an assumed thing when two are together and have exchanged blood?

Maybe Duncan ends up with Mirabelle? Just a thought.

next in line, I loved Rajmund. Sophia's book is good too. She's pretty powerful as well. There's lots more about Raphael and Cyn in Sophia's book. Rajmund is a younger vampire and more care-free. and he's a hot one of course.. yeah, Jabril, i'm glad what happened.. happened...

hmm. i can't remember Katya. i have to do a reread i think.

In an internet interview somewhere DBR said she has a contract for eight Vampire Lords of North America-it is what she originally planned. But said that if the readers and her publishers want it to go on, she would expand the series.

So far I am really liking I haven't gotten very far because I'm trying to finish up but I can't wait read more!

All I can say is: "Sigh" It was another hit for me!

Once again this series is a mix of romance, crazy action and vampires.

This week's vignette is also about Raj & Sara.

Now....Raj is a moody SOB...and very different from Raphael. He is more down to earth than Raphael but still very powerful in his own right. He has a battle on his hands. Girls are disappearing and vampires are suspected. He is asked to investigate by his Lord/Sire.

Sara, a friend of Cyn, is a psychic who is dreaming about these girls and starts her own investigation.

Raj also is planning his take over as Lord of the North East (with Raphael's support.) His Lord Krystoff is losing it and losing power. Someone is going to take over it might as well be Rajmund.

Everything get's solved, resolved and wrapped up. The only thing that disturbed me was the very last chapter. It was not about Raj & Sara....but very disconcerning none-the-less. I am hoping it is just set up for book number 4-Sophia.

I gave it 5 stars because it is another great installment in the Vampires in America Series.

glad you liked it Katya. i just love this series. Raj is sex-on-a-stick but i still love Raphael! can't wait for Duncan's book in December!! i think he's gonna be another book boyfriend for us.

Hey Kat, I can't believe this series doesn't get more attention....OH I can't make up my mind who I like better Raphael or Raj...they are so different. And I agree...Every time I read Duncan's name - I perk up and pay attention. I can't wait for December! Definitely a bbf :-)

Ahhhh! I can't wait to get back to Raphael's book! I wanted to use him in my Hero Challeng so I put it aside but you guys are killing me!lol

It is the 4th book in the Vampire in America Series. And it is good! good! good! good!

This book is about Sophia and Colin but there is as much if not more of Raphael & Cyn in here.

Not sure if the following will sound as effective or because it is taken out of the book like this but....Check out a sample section of this book:

(view spoiler)[ Raphael tells Robbie (the human body guard who watches her during the day when he and the other vamps are out night-night) that if Cyn is injured he is a dead man...plain and simple.

Well.....You can imagine what happens when she IS injured:

Robbie (human body guard) & Colin (human Assistant Sherif & Sophia's love interest) Are racing to get Cynthia back to the compound. Hoping she doesn't die. Her guts are chewed up with bullets and blood is streaming out. They arrive and the doctor comes out (Vampires are still sleeping - it is dusk and evening is about to come on) and then....

"As for the other...his words were chopped off, his eyes going wide with shock as a huge roar thundered through the air, shaking the ground beneath their feet and sending dust flying everywhere as the concrete building trembled on it's foundations. 'WTF?' Colin breathed.....'Raphael' - Robbie whispered."

(Sophia) "Something had happened, Something terrible, Raphael was raging, his unbound wrath waking every vampire in the building, threatening to tear the walls down around them and causing the very air to vibrate for those with senses to feel it. She'd never experienced such raw pain from one so powerful and she dreaded to discover what had caused it."

She (Sophia) saw them rolling up the blood soaked rug and carting off the sofa which was red from her blood. Duncan (Raphael's Lieutenant)said he didn't think she would survive this even with Raphael's healing power.

"Duncan asked where Robbie was and he replied, we sent him away because we are afraid of what Raphael would do if he saw her."

After considerable efforts were made to save Cyn's life....we move forward a bit in the book:

"Raphael stripped off the robe and showered quickly. Normally he wouldn't have bothered since he intended to bathe in his enemy's blood before the night was over. But he was covered in Cyn's Blood and she was his. Her BLOOD was his, and no one else's. So he let the soap and water sluice over his body, and he swore privately that the blood of those who harmed his Cyn would run like water tonight."

"Raphael shrugged away the facad of humanity that he wore like a cloak, releasing the bonds that kept his power concealed and let if low out of him like a river of molten silver. It warmed his veins and sped the pumping of his heart, pushing his lungs to expand more fully with every breath. It was a heady rush that had his lips drawing back in a vicious smile of pure exhilaration, his fangs emerging from his gums as he became the purest form of what he was....Vampire"... D.B. Reynolds in an interview was asked what her favorite lines were from her series and she stated:

My favorite line from RAPHAEL is still the one where Cyn is asking Lonnie about vampires getting married and when Lonnie says they don't usually, Cyn says, "Not up to eternal fidelity?" And Lonnie shakes his head and says, "No nutritional value." From JABRIL, let me think ... okay, there's a line where Cyn gets exasperated with Duncan and says, "Will you answer the [effing] question or not? There's more at stake here than Raphael's dick!" I'll leave you to figure out the context.

I ordered "Raphael" from B&N last week and should receive tomorrow after reading this blog I am even more anxious to read it!!!

I have a feeling about this cover....I am going to like Duncan...well, I already do. Do we have an exact date yet? I don't see one on the website yet. hmmmmm

i love the cover and the backstory on the cover. it sounds very intriguing. and i think i'm really going to like Duncan! he's not how i pictured at all though. not a bad thing. the last i heard it was december this year, but she hasn't committed to a day yet. ahh, just in time for christmas i hope. what a christmas gift!

If she is floating the cover I am sure a release date is not too far behind. Actually, I pictured him more like the cover for Rajmund! And Rajmund more like the Duncan cover! lol These are not the best covers for me. I hate when I see the same actor in the same pose on another book.

Started as usual...the book starts with an action scene. I still miss my Raphael & Cyn....

I am about a third of the way through. I hate the cover...that girl Emma is so much better looking in my mind than on that picture...but then I hate all the girls on Vamps in AM covers. They don't look like the real thing.

You get a small dose of Cyn & Raphael in the beginning where (view spoiler)[Duncan asks Cyn to watch over him...She says, "I love him." and Duncan reply's, "But now you also have to watch over him too." Raphael, as formal as ever shakes hands and Cyn grabs Duncan to say good bye in a big bear hug. (hide spoiler)] It was sweet.

Right off the bat, what is different about this book is that the heroine (view spoiler)[didn't care for vamps at the beginning and now hates them this far into the book. She calls them, "all you guys." Duncan is like, "What guys? oh, you mean vampires." (hide spoiler)]

Also, (no secret) Duncan has a more modern attitude than Raphael...but then that dude is from the middle ages.....And Duncan is from the early 1800's or something. We also learn that (view spoiler)[he had a love gone sour which hurt him very badly in the past. (hide spoiler)]

I am also liking Miguel....his Lieutenant. He growls at people and doesn't know his own strength with humans....Duncan keeps telling him...."gentle, easy Miguel, gentle."

So far I am enjoying this book...I love all the talk of the vampire power.....Duncan walks into a blood house at one point and as soon as he releases his power they recognize him as their Lord and some bow down others back up against the walls bowing their heads. It is awesome. Duncan is freeken' cocky too! I love it!

I love this series and am reading which is very good. But I really have to say I hate how Emma is handling (view spoiler)[the death and funeral of her friend Lacey.

I mean, a memorial & a private funeral.....Private? The girl says people are calling her and wanting to participate in some way... The funeral director had to talk her into the memorial (I guess that is a wake?)

And she refused viewing of the body? This is how people grieve. NO ONE wants to view dead bodies...but it is how we say good bye....they have done studies...people who experience a "clinical" response to a death of a loved one, grieved more deeply and for a longer period of time. Those that were even a little involved, saw the body were able to move past it faster.

They even said that in an experiment one of the researchers actually participated to the extent that they dressed the body of their mom and acted as pall bearers and that their grief was lighter than had they not participated.

I am a choir director and do alot of funerals and wake memorial services. I was raised in a family which believed it was our duty as a church, family member or friend to attend wakes and funerals - even for those you hardly know. My father took me to so many wakes as a baby and child that by the time he died I had attended hundreds and was completely desensitized.

What I KNOW is that When ever we avoid death...we suffer longer and harder for it. Emma is wrong to do closed casket and to do private. Death is not a private thing. We are all part of a community.

I hate hearing "they just couldn't handle that...I am trying to spare everyone....heck, cry, scream, throw things....let the grieve roll over you....feel it like you do the ocean waves lap up against and through you. It is the ONLY way to get through it....and holding it back so that you let a bit trickle by at a time will only do emotional damage or prolong the pain! Plain and simple!

One last crazy lady rant-Where is God in all of this? Oh my brain is being squeezed to tightly, it hurts (hide spoiler)]

Okay, now that I am done with that rant....I can only think that the reason that Emma did what she did was (view spoiler)[that she herself was a loner for many years and did not grow up as I did - in a community...or part of a greater group of individuals.

She had Lacey and that was it....maybe some other foster parents here and there but no one else who led a significant enough role in her life. And it sounded like Emma took care of Lacey who was a bit of a immature party girl.???? (hide spoiler)]

OH someone, please help me understand! My head hurts.

She didn't know them because they were Lacey's friends and not hers. she's not as social as Lacey was so she kinda stayed off by herself in her grief until Duncan came. Then for the burial, she did that on her own. i actually see that a lot especially when someone is cremated. Only close family take part in that part and not everyone and it could happen weeks after the memorial service. Lacey was the only family she had so i guess that's why she wanted to do it on her own. (hide spoiler)]
