Matthew Reilly is my favorite A/A writer hands down. I read Ice Station several years ago and loved it. He's been on my autobuy list ever since.

His books read like an action movie. He's a bit gory with the violence, but otherwise, top notch. Don't look for a lot of internal character development though.

Any thoughts on Reilly?

What're your favorites by him?

message 2: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Reilly is a tie for me with Lee Child, but they are both at the top. I have to say the books with Scarecrow are my favorites, hands down. My best friend is a Marine and Shane just has a special place in my heart. Well him and Mother.

I also like the Jack West ones as well as most of the stand alones. I might be alone in this, but I have to say I despised Contest- his first book. If I had read it before the others I never would've picked up another. Despite that he is a must buy day of release author for me.

I agree with you about Shane. He is too awesome! I think Jack might be up there with him after I read another Reacher book. I haven't read the Jack West books yet. I like that he went with an atypical hero in Temple. William Race was like the antithesis of Shane Schofield.

message 4: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments William Race...I was trying so hard to remember his name. I keep hoping Reilly will write another one featuring him. Not that I don't adore Shane- I did a happy dance when I saw the next Reilly book was going to be a Scarecrow one!

I was hoping for another William Race book too. He was adorable. Very physically inept, but he managed to get the job done. Of course, I am always jazzed to see more Scarecrow. He's one of my imaginary husbands. :)

I'm going to have to read this guy. This is the one guy that's been mentioned all over the place here that I haven't heard of. (and I'm kind of embarrassed about that. I like being the all knowing guru.) Where does one start with him?

Especially as angsty as he has to be after the events in Scarecrow.

Scarecrow... that's the first book of the series or the name of the series?

message 9: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Scarecrow is both the name of a character, Shane Schofield code name Scarecrow, and the name of the third book in his series. Ice Station is actually the first book.

Ice Station is now the first book on my TBR-wish list. (and the first book that I don't actually own yet.) Of course, I do have a gift card to Amazon...

Ice Station is non-stop action. It's like an action movie fan's dream. I loved it! I got my mom and my friend to read it while I still had the book checked out from the library, and they enjoyed it too.

Alice, I accidentally got spoiled about what happens to Scarecrow on Wikipedia. That sucks!

message 12: by Alice (new)

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Oh my! That is awful Danielle. I hate being spoiled especially when I'm so looking forward to it. I hate that for you so much!

Traci Another series to add to my wishlist. ;)
My tbr list on goodreads is under control because I only add books I have, well I haven't added used and ebooks yet, but my actual wishlist is pretty big.

I'm really enjoying Ice Station. By the way. With the Hurricane coming I need some supplies. Any idea where I could get a grapling hook, a Desert Eagle .44, and a pair of those cool sunglasses! (and miles and miles of nylon rope.)

If you can get one of those grappling hooks (Mag Hook right?), let me know!

Yep, Mag hook. And I'll pass it on...um.. is there a place in a book where somebody does a Home Gallbladder-ectomy? That might come in handy when Storm-a-gedon comes through.

I'd be too afraid of runing into Killer Whales if there is flooding. I should think about kidnapping one for the weekend. "Paging Doctor..."

Wow, mouth to mouth from an elephant seal. I bet he doesn't brag about that. (Ice station). Fun book. His so bright... he's gotta wear shades! Enjoying the book. Between the sawning and dragging timber.

Ice Station

Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.

I sure enjoyed the book. And I have a new respect for whales, seals and snow. And I might add a Hovercraft to the Magnetic Grapling hook too. (of course I actually know where to steal... get.. go get (not steal..heh-heh) an LCAC (landing Craft air cushioned.) Those things are fun to watch.

That scene with the hovercraft was crazy!!!

Temple has some crazy action scenes too, and it feels even more risky because William Race is no Scarecrow. He's more of an ordinary kind of guy in a very desperate situation. This was the second book by MR I read and enjoyed.

Excuse my fuzzy memory, but when I read this I immediately flashed to the scene with the jaguars (they were jags, right?) and the vehicles. Heart pounding stuff!

They were very scary big cats. I think they were jags. It's been a while.

There were a few moments I knew for sure Race was a goner, but he managed to pull through by the skin of his teeth!
