Once Upon A Time - ABC show

I think the NBC one is the one that developed after talks to adapt Fables: Legends in Exile fell apart.
They both might cancel each other out, but both look interesting.

Today's New York Times likes both this series and Grimm on NBC, though it gives the edge to Once Upon a Time.

So far, they are weaving the fairy tale with present time gracefully, and the way they have incorporated Henry & his book is the stuff of fairy tales.
I'm really looking forward to following this series. This is the series Haven probably wishes it could be.
Grimm is just around the corner!
Okay, so I finally saw it. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I actually liked Emma, which considering the fact that I hated her character on House.
I loved all the touches - like Sister with a pear and not an apple. The Little Red Riding Hood as "loose woman".
I loved Lana Padrilla. I enjoyed her Boomtown, but it is wonderfull watching her camp it up here. I hope that the writers don't make her lying. A one dimension villian is so boring.

Grimm has the saving grace of an interesting and amusing sidekick, which is a fun twist and will keep me watching... for now.

I actually find myself rather thankful that my cable company has On Demand, so I can watch either whenever. If I miss it, and I usually do, I can watch it later.

They will also adapt Aladdin and Belle and the Beast, I can't wait!

They did Goldilocks on Grimm. She was guilty of breaking and entering. Haha!

This week it's his story! Here's the preview on youtube:

JS, Rumples is my fav. He's messing with everyone.lol.

Is it true it's not coming back until Jan 8?

Likely. Most television shows since the Writer's Strike a few years ago have a winter hiatus around the holidays. Makes sense; most people are more concerned with their respective holidays and spending time with friends and/or family than keeping up with their shows. The ratings were suffering and I think we all have an idea of how much the ratings make or break our favourite shows. (I'm looking at you, FlashForward.)

So don't worry.
You're not alone.
He really needs to cut out that sparkling shit. ...And that voice. *shudders*

I'm watching both shows and enjoying each in their own right, but if I could only pick one, Once Upon a Time would definitely win out.
In confession, I haven't read the Grimm tales and feel like I don't know many of the original stories being tipped on their heads in each of the shows. Can anyone recommend collection or volume of stories to read for base material? ABC is releasing a book (http://www.cafepress.com/onceuponatim...), but I'm curious what my fellow Goodreaders would recommend.
I send forth my gratitude in advance.

Hm. I would disagree. Disney is so prettified, fancified, sanitized and commercialized that it's next to worthless. Entertaining, but not really good as source material.
From the inventive minds of Lost executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis comes a bold new imagining of the world, where fairy tales and the modern-day are about to collide.
And they all lived happily ever after – or so everyone was led to believe. Emma Swan knows how to take care of herself. She's a 28-year-old bail bonds collector who's been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby. But when the son she gave up years ago finds her, everything starts to change. Henry is now 10 years old and in desperate need of Emma's help. He believes that Emma actually comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming's missing daughter. According to his book of fairytales, they sent her away to protect her from the Evil Queen's curse, which trapped the fairytale world forever, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Of course Emma doesn't believe a word, but when she brings Henry back to Storybrooke, she finds herself drawn to this unusual boy and his strange New England town. Concerned for Henry, she decides to stay for a while, but she soon suspects that Storybrooke is more than it seems. It's a place where magic has been forgotten, but is still powerfully close… where fairytale characters are alive, even though they don't remember who they once were. The epic battle for the future of all worlds is beginning, but for good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell.
