Melki made think about the books and settings I read and I always love a San Francisco setting. Only visited there once but can't wait to go back and really get into the city and the places I read about. Plus I like local settings too. Fun to read about places I've been and that I have easy access to.

So do you have a setting you really like for the back drop to your reading? Why? Have you been there?

Being from the UK I love settings along the coast and local settings too. I love Whitby in Yorkshire and have read a few books set there. Have read books based in the Cotswolds and lots of other places in the UK.

I always love reading about New England. Alice Hoffman's books in Massachusetts and Stephen King up in Maine.

I love an author when they spend a good few pages setting the scene
I do like old London where if you read a good book and go at night time still can get the atmosphere

I also remember reading all the Wilber Smith books years ago and the African settings were great

Another interesting question. Honestly, I have been transported by such a variety of settings that I have to agree with Theresa: any setting that is described vividly. Come to think of it, one of the things I like so much about Stephenie Meyer's books is that settings (in both the Twilight saga and The Host) play such big roles that they are almost characters themselves. Other books that stand out to me for their setting(s) are Snow Falling on Cedars, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and The Magicians.

Good question! I'm a sucker for books set in my hometown, Detroit, like Middlesex and many by Elmore Leonard. Historical fiction is my favorite genre and I particularly love those set in Great Britain. Lately I've also developed an interest in stories set in India.

I'm pretty much all over the board, but I do prefer urban settings. I love to read books set in London during the Victorian era and I also am interested in books set in Germany during WWII or any novel about the Vietnam War. I'm so excited about the Soho Press books, which take place all over the world.
