Paul Evangelista | 4 comments Hi all.

I was wondering if any of you could recommend some authors I might enjoy. Currently, I've read through all of the works of the following writers and would like something similar (the same - only different :-)

John Sandford
James Lee Burke
Robert Crais
Michael Connelly
Lawrence Block (except for the newest one)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Jed (specklebang) | 4 comments Aiyeee. I just realized that we are discussing detectives, not crime. That pretty much kills my list.

Sorry about that. Well, if you lik crime also, take a look anyway. Books are so easy to check out on the internet in these modern times.

message 10: by Paul (new)

Paul Evangelista | 4 comments Thank you all so much. I'll definitely check these out.

message 11: by Sammy (new)

Sammy | 5 comments I can't believe I didn't add Robert B. Parker to my list above. He has 3 series - one detective, the Jesse Stone series. Parker is really known for his Spenser series. Great reads!

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisaann401yahoocom) | 11 comments How about Catherine Coulter. She has some great FBI thrillers, and then there is J A Jance, and Stuart Woods, and Sue Grafton. All great authors.

August McLaughlin (augustmclaughlin) | 1 comments Hi Paul,
It sounds like you have your hands, er--bookcase--full. However, if you're still searching, I highly recommend Douglas Kennedy, Mike Sirota and Amanda Kyle Williams, who's breakout mystery, "The Stranger You Seek" just came out. Best of luck and happy reading. :)

Add my vote to the Robert B Parker and Robert Crais' Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series.

A dozen hot mystery writers are hosting a very special Friday the 13th celebration by offering a download of one of their novels in its entirety for free all day today (and some tomorrow). Here are the book covers and a paragraph description of each novel. You’ll also find download links there as well. http://tiny.cc/os0va

Try these by an English author, read them a few years ago and they're not bad:
by: Christopher Brookmyre,
All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye.
The Sacred Art of Stealing.
Boiling a Frog.

message 23: by Tay (new)

Tay | 2 comments Check out James Swain's Jack Carpenter series. He gave Michael Connelly credit for this work and you can see Connelly's influence in his work.

message 24: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Sheffield (jamiesheffield) | 2 comments Great Thread!

I love these authors, and am going to have to check out some of the ones recommended in the replies.

Carl Hiaasen is definitely worth checking out.

Thanks,

Eriq Salle (eriqlasalle) | 1 comments Hi all, I would like to invite you to read my newest thriller, Laws of Wrath. Here's the synopsis. Let me know what you think. I'd love to have a discussion with you all about it.

"Eriq La Salle's Laws of Wrath is all thriller; no filler—a white-knuckled treat."—James Patterson

Chinatown, New York—The butchered body of a transvestite is found in a dumpster. Nothing out of the ordinary for NYPD, except the victim just so happens to be the brother of Detective Phee Freeman. At first the slaying seems to be the random act of a vicious killer but when it is discovered that there are similar ritualistic murders throughout the city, Phee and his partner Quincy Cavanaugh, along with FBI Agent Janet Maclin, have no choice but to join forces with Dr. Daria Zibik, a brilliant but deranged cult leader. With the clock running down and bodies piling up, Phee and his partners must to do everything they can to stop the bloodshed and determine if the evil they are hunting and the psychopath they are trusting could actually be one in the same.

Laws of Wrath
