Hello! My name is Dena and I've been dedicating myself towards this group for quite a few years now. It went from just a book club at the library to meetings at my home and now we are viral on facebook, goodreads and a web site.

I'm addicted to reading, finding books and sharing my love of reading

I'm married, have 2 children, 3 dogs and tank full of fish. We live in Iowa where I'm the soccer coordinator, a secretary for swim team and work a full time job at the local small town newspaper office. My favorite part of my job as an accounting/office manager is writing my weekly article for the club.

Join in the fun and start chatting!

Bethica (bethicaj) Why do I feel like I'm standing in front of an AA meeting? (lol)

Hi! My name's Beth and I live the great town with all the castles, Ida Grove, in beautiful northwest IOWA!! I'm a mother of 4 girls and a diehard reader on my kindle. Currently, I'm a night shift RN at a hospital working on the med-surg and OB floors.

I don't know what else to say so I'll sit down now... :)

LOL!!! Funny girl!!! I do consider myself a bookaholic, but I don't want to change... ;o)

Dara Hey guys! My name is Dara and i currently live in Anita. I'm originally from walnut but have many close family from avoca. I am married with one little girl. I teach kindergarten in Atlantic and love to read. I used to hate reading......and found a love for it when I I got super bored one day. I picked up the first Harry potter book and have been a bookworm ever since.....much to my husbands dismay! My reading picked up even more when I got my nook......love it!

Welcome Dara!!!! I live in Avoca, but orginally from Omaha.

Love that you read and I love the Harry Potter series.... even if I've only read the first two. ;o)

Getting around to finishing them. Have to read many genres and several books often to sustain my weekly article in the Journal Herald

Look forward to chatting with you!!! Now I need to get my teacher friend Joy in here!

Mikhail Lerma (MLerma) | 4 comments Hello! My name is Mikhail. I'm originally from Nebraska, but have recently moved to Durant IA. I've been in the army for 9 years, married for 6, and have 3 beautiful daughters all under the age of 5... I know (yikes!). I love to read, but even more so... I love to write! I recently self published my first book I wrote while I was deployed to Iraq. And since being on goodreads I snagged myself a literary agent and an editor, which is surprising and exciting! I just wanted to get in touch with any Iowa readers and writers out there.

Welcome and super for you!!!! Give us the title of your book. I'm also a native of Nebraska for the first 30 yrs of my life. Now, in a matter of days, will have lived in Iowa for 15 yrs.

I love to write too and hope to put some of my book ideas down but for now writing my weekly article is a blast.

Yikes on the ages of children but I did 2 like that and now that they are 12 and 15.... It's not so bad.

Dena

Mikhail Lerma (MLerma) | 4 comments Thanks Dena, I'm glad someone survived having kids that close together. My wife still wants a boy, but I'm scared for that 4th girl! Anyway, my book is called Z Plan:Blood on the Sand. It's in the horror genre, and more specifically about zombies. Even if its not your topic of choice I hope you check it out, ( even my mother in law who only reads romances liked it!)

I give all sorts of info and updates on my blog as well.

Well.... my 15 yr son is totally into zombies! He is in to that show The Walking Dead. I love horror, syfy stuff and in general cop/fbi/profiler mystery genre the most but I have a love for the romance too.

All over the board since I have so many readers that read different books and so I must too.

Thanks for all the information.

P.S. I still want a third child and very much another boy but my hubby is not agreeing to that... :o) He says we have one of each and that is that.

OHHHH and another thing my son is very much interested in going into the service. Right now he is thinking of the Naval Academy. Starting wearing his hair very short this last summer during baseball season and loves it. Says, I have to get ready for this short hair if I'm going into the service. :o)

Mikhail Lerma (MLerma) | 4 comments Well that's awesome! I joined the army when I was 17. I will say though, there is some strong language in the book, nothing too crazy. But if you do suggest my book to him you may want to skim through it first. But that's great that he wants to join the service, I wish him luck!

He is okay with the language.... But I will get a copy and read it too. I try to read a lot of the books they are plus more to give them ideas. He read Brad Meltzer --- The Book of Lies and The Book of Fate

Antoinette van Heugten (avhbooks) Hi! My name is Antoinette van Heugten and I am the author of SAVING MAX, a novel about a boy with autism, which was mentioned here because it took place in Plano, Iowa. I actually made up the name and only later learned there was not just a Plano in Texas, where I live, but also in Iowa! Thought you'd like to know!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing and I will get this title to my Harlan, Ia book club as well. We like to read books with Iowa in them.

;o)

Antoinette van Heugten (avhbooks) Let me know what you guys think of it. I have a new novel coming out in October: The Tulip Eaters. Very different thriller about WWII and the Netherlands, kidnapping and, of course, murder! Thanks.

Douglas Cavanaugh (croauthor) | 1 comments Hi All,

I am a native Iowan (Davenport) who has been living in Croatia for a long time but I still return every few years to visit friends and family (i.e. summer 2015 - can't wait) Nice to find you.

I did throw my hat into the ring and wrote my first novel called, Into Hell's Fire, which is set in Bosnia and Croatia. I'd be honored to have any Iowa-based readers check it out and offer their insight and suggestions via a goodreads.com review.

I am one third of the way through my second novel which is primarily set in beautiful northeast Iowa. I tend to write in creative bursts with long breaks so it may be another couple of years before it's finished, but I think Iowans will find it interesting and enjoyable. I'll keep you posted.

It is nice to be in contact with readers in my home state. I hope winter hasn't been too harsh so far.

Regards to all and thanks for having me aboard.

Douglas
