To play with this month and Tasks 2 & 3 and the start of school in a lot of places (at least in the USA) let's build on "Historical Fiction"/"banned books"/"school".
Read something you think would have been good to read in school or an alternate historical fiction (which I think would have been good to read in school).
If that's confusing to you, here's MY example:
We're learning about the Napoleonic War in The School of Oz. Now I could go read some biography or even a fiction story of some kid that ran away to join the army of either side. Instead, I'm taking the far more interesting "should be on the reading list" Alt History book: "His Majesty's Dragon" by Naomi Novik. It's the Napoleonic Wars...with DRAGONS! Yeah, that's already better. FTR: The author did a lot of research and everything is accurate. She just threw in dragons. Everything is better with dragons.
And I'm sure if the parents of the children in The School of Oz caught wind of this, they'd try to ban it on sheer principle. Dragons=Bad. Don't you people read the Bible?
Except the parents of the children in The School of Oz are reading the books, too. Sometimes it pays to be principal and teacher. :)
*And I sort of lied. I'm not reading HMD. I read that last year. But I moved "Throne of Jade" which is book 2 to the top of my queue.*
Though we're getting ready to start The History of US, which I also think should be read in schools. It pwns all US history textbooks. So I'd count it, too. :) But could you imagine how much more fun the reading list for school would be if it was like: "His Majesty's Dragon", "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", and "The Princess Bride"?

Ugh, I haven't had ANY time for reading because of this VA day of service. Hopefully I'll get SOMETHING finished. Just not sure if it will be anything for a challenge. But I have to get through some of these books on my TBR, so even one book is better than nothing!

-Still thinking...
Great list so far. I am failing to read much of anything this month, but will try to get at least one book in. :)

It's just a crazy period. I've been put in charge of a HUGE service event next Saturday in my town, and that's making it crazy as well.
It's why I do so much reading in August. I know that I'm about to enter crazy-ville! Now, back to my American History reading so I can go teach these kids! :) We're preparing for a major exam next month and it's got me stressed out!
Adjusting to being back to my school library is definitely challenging my reading schedule. I did manage to read 2 books this week.

Did anyone else besides Dee read this month? :) Otherwise, she is the winner! What task would you like our group members to do next month?

But hey, I got a byline and photo credit for that huge event I planned. I may not have much time for reading, but things went great this month so yay. :)
Great job Dee!
Looking forward to October! Happy October 1st everyone
