Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Steins;Gate is a current anime series in Japan that has a certain similarity to Flashforward. (view spoiler)

Steins;Gate (yes, that semicolon annoys me too) is about Okabe Rintaro, a self-styled "mad scientist" whose inventions are fascinating but wholly impractical exercises in engineering. One day he attends a lecture on time travel with his friend Mayuri. Several strange events occur at the lecture, culminating in Okabe discovering a dead body. When he sends a text message to a friend about what happened, reality suddenly alters around him. In the new world, the lecture was canceled at the last minute because a "satellite" crashed into the lecture hall. Okabe tries to figure out what happened and stumbles across a global conspiracy involving CERN, the LHC, and gelified bananas.

The show is even less scientific than Flashforward (there's no way an IBM 5150 can do all that) but about ten times more interesting. Americans can view it through the Crunchyroll website.
