If you're an author and would like someone to review your work, post it here. Let us know what genre you classify your book as, how many words, what your target audience is, and whether or not you'd like us to point out any typos, errors, etc.

I know both Scott and myself will actively shop indie books from threads such as these, and I'm sure there are quite a few others out there that will, too. Now it isn't mandatory that authors gift copies of their books to reviewers, and I personally don't expect it, but a gift copy is always appreciated.

message 2: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) I also shop from threads, twitter statuses, etc! I will purchase a book with a decent synopsis that looks like it fits with something I am interested in, as far as Indie goes especially! SUPPORT is where it is at! I am fast headed to the publish or perish aspect of my life, but at least I am writing to a VERY focused and limited area of the public UGH! Academia!

Well, as soon as its published, post it here! I'm sure one of us will read & review it for you.

With enough members I'm sure someone will look at all the books here and be willing to read & review a few of 'em. Scott's the king of that. I'm nowhere close, but I think I've left between 25-30 reviews now, and still going strong.

I'm just more selective. Not a fan of vampires or werewolves. Not a fan of fairies. Not a fan of dark fantasy. But there are always exceptions to each rule. :)

Kriss (cabingoddess) vampires, and werewolves and fairies OH MY *skipping*

Breeana (breeana_puttroff) | 21 comments I'm looking for reviews for my new YA Fantasy book, Seeds of Discovery. It's not dark, it's PG (but still fun) and all of the characters are human.

Hi Breeana,

Thanks very much for the coupon! I picked up a copy and will be sure to say something when I get it reviewed.

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) I'm looking for reviews for my book. If anyone wants, pop me an email at patricialynne07(@)gmail.com and I'll send you a code for smashwords. Although, I should warn you, mine has vampires. They don't sparkle though. ;)

Do the vampires play major roles or minor ones? Are they evil or good?

Hmm, I guess by nature they're defined as evil, but I have come across several that were defined as "good".

I don't think I'd be the best person to review a vampire story, but Scott might be interested.

message 12: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) A vampire is the main character of my story. Honestly, my vampires aren't really good or evil. I got tired of reading too many stories like that and tried to get away from that with this story.
It's kind of a story about what it means to be human through the eyes of a character who no longer remembers being human.

Patricia -

That sounds like an interesting twist from most vampire stories I've heard about.

Did you just publish this book?

message 14: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Yeah, it's been available on Amazon and Smashwords for a little over a week.

message 15: by Jeffrey, Lentarian Fire Thrower (new)

Jeffrey Poole (authorjmpoole) | 2287 comments Mod
I'll go download a sample of it and take a look. I can't promise anything, 'cause I'm really not a fan of vampires, but I will take a look for you.

message 16: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Maybe I'll change your mind. ;) Thanks for looking.

message 17: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) Patricia, I am a fan and I HATE SPARKLY VAMPIRES,so I will pop that e-mail over to you!

Kriss

message 18: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) Also I screen all books for my 12 15 year old that say YA and involve vampires due to the stupid sparkly ones... book 5 was NOT appropriate for them. Thanks!

Kriss

message 19: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Thanks Kriss, I emailed you the code and link.

message 21: by Martin (new)

Martin Gibbs Yes, I'm seeking reviews! The Spaces Between is a fantasy story that is off-beat and quite unique.

http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

It starts off as a standard adventure, but gets itself into some interesting knots in a hurry. One being the first-person perspective of someone with Asperger's. A dangerous Order of assassins is involved, but can't seem to keep its members alive, there is a Holy Temple, and a dangerous warlock in exile. And all paths are leading to him. The ending is quite unexpected and surreal.

145k words.

Send me a note and I'll send a coupon for smashwords. Thank you!

message 22: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) Martin, that is a beautiful cover!

message 23: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Reddy | 80 comments Finally! Somewhere I can specify target market.

Fast-reading smart women; science fiction fans, who grew up with TV, have been to, or wished to go to, cons, who are looking for gorgeous, principled, charming, eloquent superheroes, demigods and captains extraordinaire. (Come on over, ladies, and meet my boys.)

I've been doing this twenty years and the "avant-garde" style is designed for the audience. They will read it faster, documented. I came back to electronic publishing 'at the next stage.' I have 44 books, plus a couple novellas, under 26 titles and all those wonderful review sites, except one, with reviews of my books are gone. I've got four reviews total. Puh-lease allow me to give you some brain candy.Sharon L. Reddy

I gotta ask... "Sparkly Vampires"? Curious as hell what that refers to! I clearly don't read vampire stories. :)

message 26: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) Martin the cover IS gorgeous and I'm definitely interested in reading! Sending a note!

Sharon you crack me up! I love your avatar and your prolific book list! Will be adding a fee to my ever growing wish list/ to-read! Ack!

Sharon Reddy | 80 comments Kriss,

I'm the most radical avant-garde writer currently in publication and you are the perfect age for the books I don't have the hormones to fully appreciate any longer. I wrote them when I was about your age. Now I'm 65.

(It was suggested I label my books adult-content or mature audience. Counter suggestion: Adult content or post-menopausal.)

message 28: by Sharon (last edited Sep 07, 2011 07:21PM) (new)

Sharon Reddy | 80 comments "Sparkly vampires" have been a topic of discussion by reviewers on several forums. I wouldn't post the name of the book that, evidently, affronted several of the very vampy, if I remembered it.

message 29: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) Sharon they sound perfect! Oh man I have so many to read and on my wish list! Haha *bouncy*

I'll say it. Twilight. Twilight had vampires that sparkled in the sunlight. It was an interesting twist, but I can't really recommend the books anymore.

message 31: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) The only good thing that came from those books, (&I had to read them because my teenage girls wanted too so I had to screen) was MST3K RiffTrax haha some of the best done besides Harry Potter. I think hating the books & movies definitely made the Riffs even better!

message 32: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Lynne (pjlauthor) I enjoyed them the first time I read them. Then I got into writing and becoming a better writer and learning things, along with a certain tumblar blog, had me defect to the haters side. Plus, Bella is an awful person. Even while I liked the series, I wished she was stronger.

message 33: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) The last book was gawd awful PLUS the pediphelia aspect, ya you can say whatever you want it is just CREEPY .. CREEPY CREEPY! Plus the baby.. CREEPY and not in a fun way of creepy.. UGH just gross! I keep wondering how the hell they are going to deal with that in the movie!! THAT should be REALLY interesting! Edward will be hated and Bella will be shunned!

message 34: by Kriss (new)

Kriss (cabingoddess) JACOB not Edward.. but they have not dealt with the other pack member, in the movies, that bonds to a little girl either.. CREEPY

Breeana (breeana_puttroff) | 21 comments Thanks those of you who picked up my book. It's actually made the #1 YA bestseller on Smashwords the last couple of days, which is kind of cool, and it's gotten several 4 and 5 star reviews. Thought I'd post another coupon code for anyone else who would like to grab it for free today or tomorrow. :) Would love more reviews.

No sparkly vampires, or sparkly anyone. And appropriate for all ages, really... it's YA, but some of my more advanced second-grade students got to provide input on the first drafts... (I was so proud when one of them caught a sentence-structure error!)

http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

Use code LK62N to get your copy for free. I'm also entering reviewers into a contest to win a free Kindle (even if you don't give it a good review, I promise), or entries for helping to publicize it.

Thankfully I'm way beyond the target demographic for the "sparkly vampire" stories. :)

Although... Everyone always tells me that I'm just a big kid at heart. Which I guess is true. Kinda. LOL

message 42: by Sharon (last edited Sep 08, 2011 09:12AM) (new)

Sharon Reddy | 80 comments I had to write a "modern vampire" story for a writing group I was in. When the story was read, some of the people didn't get some of the elements. I suggested a movie that would give them all of the 'traditional legend' pieces, Abbott and Costello meet Dracula.

Addendum: The story, Kipper, is included in Imagiscape.

lololol

I'll bet! Did you say that you published it?

message 46: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Reddy | 80 comments Yes. I don't write much that's short and I'm not really a short story writer, but Imagiscape is a collection of short pieces, a novella and short novel intended to give a reader an idea of the variety of my work.
