I think there have been many authors who have been in the same predicament this poor fellow has been in. He has this character in his head that has been with him for so long that the character (muse) is now a literal part of him.

He does what he can to do SOMETHING with her, only things are not working out the way that he planned. What will he do when his wife gets upset?

This piece of fiction rings true for many authors that I have come to know and love. They dream about their characters, fantasize about them, and envision them all over the place. I do know spouses have become jealous over this type of thing.
