Amanda Carey | 2 comments Just wanted to start some chatting in this group... what are you all reading?? I'm reading Patrick Rothfuss's new book A Wise Main's Fear. I love it, sort of an adult, yet slightly different Harry Potter. Involved and intersting. :o)

Marc A. | 6 comments The Wise Heart: A Guide to the Universal Teachings of Buddhist Psychology by Jack Kornfield. p 66.

So far, very good. Deep, as you might imagine.

Christopher (llanthor) | 1 comments Hello, everyone. I'm new to this group, so I'm not sure what exactly everyone normally reads. Right now I've been reading a lot of young adult lately, as I'm planning on being a teacher in the near future and want to be able to connect better with them and learn what they are reading. Currently I just starting book one of the Immortal Instruments series, City of Bones. On my nightstand though, I've also got a couple of books of short stories, one by urban fantasy author Charles de Lint and another by science fiction author Harlan Ellison. Finally, I'm also reading through some of Grimm's Fairy Tales, in the hope that something will spark an idea and get creative juices flowing so I can write a book worth selling myself :)

Candace (candacevan) | 5 comments I just posted a write-up about a fascinating book I read on my personal blog (http://candacevan.wordpress.com), "Sybil Exposed," by Debbie Nathan. A fascinating read.

Marc: Like you I enjoy dipping into Buddhist teachings -- so you're not alone in that.

I haven't heard of that book. Would you recommend it?

message 8: by Pat (new)

Pat | 5 comments Sorry, it's The Secret of the Nightingale Palace and I would recommend it. It's about a southern girl who befriends a Japanese family in San Francisco before the second world war. This girl is now a grandmother who is making a road trip with her grandaughter back to San Francisco to return a set of books to a member of the Japanese family. The story goes back and forth in time between the present and the past.

message 10: by Joann (new)

Joann Titus | 2 comments hi. just joined GoodReads. I am a librarian at a local high school and am investigating this forum for an online book club with my students. Do you all recommend this site. It seems easy to use. Looks like the activity is light.
I read alot of YA books. Love John Green, ellen hopkins, to name a few. Just finished Anna Quindlen's still life with bread crumbs. It is a good read. Explores the life of an artist and how she grows up and finds her true self.
also have been reading a local author Ann Hope from Providence. She was the visting author to kick off the quiet corner reads this summer for the author trail. The Knitting Club was super good as was the Obituary Writer. She also writes nonfiction and I read the one about her father. . . the title escapes me prestently

Chris Bouchard | 1 comments Boy Unraveled by Chris Bouchard
Hi everyone! I'm a local author living here in the quiet corner. I published my debut novel, Boy Unraveled, back in March and I'm currently working on my second book. The book has had great reviews so far, and I'm hoping to spark some interest in other readers, and build connections here on Goodreads. If you have the chance, check it out. It's available on Amazon, B&N, iBooks, and most other major retailers. Thank you!
