We Love Lisa Kleypas discussion

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Lisa's Ladies' Favorites Book List Challenge!


This year the theme is Halloween and we have a few different options and difficulty levels to pick from. You can choose as many options as you like, all can overlap and, as always, YOU choose how to make it work for YOU!!! But remember, the only books you can use for this challenge are the ones listed below in the Lisa's Ladies' Favorites Book List.

Here's how this works:

You've Been Invited to 9 Halloween Parties!

There are parties on Historical Romance Road,Romantic Suspense Square, Contemporary Romance Court, Erotica Avenue, Fantasy Lane, Sci Fi Way, Steampunk Street, Urban Fantasy Boulevard, and Paranormal Parkway, and you've been invited to them all! Can you possibly make it to each one? Do you even want to? And what are you going to wear?? Will you come dressed as a Victorian Era Lady, a Sexy Seductress, a Vampire, or something else?

It's up to you to decide which parties you'll attend on which streets (genres), what you'll wear (sub-genres within those genres) and how many houses (books) you'll choose to visit(read).

Now, you can always decide to just come in costume and sit on the sidelines doing your own thing, watching everyone else have fun. That's absolutely okay! Orrrr you can choose one or all of the following extra activities to participate in.

For example -


Activity #1 - Games to Play

1. Pin the Tailbone on the Skeleton - Close your eyes and pick a book from the Lisa's Ladies' Favorites Book List list. Where ever your finger lands, that's what you'll read.

2. Bobbing for Apples – The letters B,O,I,N,G,F, R,A,P,L,or E must be in the title

3. Pumpkin Carving - Covers must be orange or the book must have been published in October.


Activity #2 - Trick or Treat ~ Pick a Theme:

Snickers – Must be funny
Kisses – Must be romantic
Junior Mints - must have kids in the story
Hershey's with Nuts - must have a crazy person, or someone thought to be crazy, in the story.
100 Grand Bar or PayDay - wealthy character
3 Musketeers- book with friend theme, 3rd book in series
Swedish Fish- fisherman character, pirate, sea voyage
Milky Way- steampunk (dirgibles), fantasy
Mounds, Red Hots- erotica
Nerds- scientists, professors, bluestockings
York Peppermint Patty- takes place in the US
Airhead- ditsy character, blond character


Activity #3 - Trick or Treat ~ Pick a Color:

The cover color of the book you read must match the wrapper color, or the color of the candy itself -

Skittles - Any color of the rainbow!
M&M's - Yellow, Red, Brown, Blue
Hershey's Bars - Brown
KitKat or Reeces - Orange
Good N Plenty - Purple, Pink or White
Junior Mints- Green, Brown or White
Dots or Starburst - Yellow
Almond Joy - Blue
Bubble Gum - Pink
Raisins - Red or Black
Licorice - Black
Candy Corn - Yellow, Orange, White or any combination of those colors.


Activity #4 ~ Haunted House

There's a Haunted House in the neighborhood! If you choose to attend this party, all of your books need to be scary, or very edgy, with paranormal characters such as witches, vampires, demons, ghosts, shifters, etc...


I know, I know... You're probably thinking, 'what the heck is she talking about?' and I don't blame you! I know I'm confused and I'm the one telling you how to do it. That in itself is scary, but I digress...

So here are some examples -

Example #1. Let's keep it simple. You want to attend a party on Paranormal Parkway. What will you wear and how many houses will you visit? Maybe you'll go to only one party dressed as a Vampire. That means you'll only read 1 book and it must have a Vampire in it. Or perhaps you'll want to visit 3 houses on this street. That means you'll choose to read 3 PNR books and you can either go as a Vampire to all three houses, or you can mix it up and go as a Vampire to 1, a Shifter to another, and a Demon to yet another.

Example #2. This one's a bit harder. Let's say you choose to come to a party on Historical Romance Road dressed as a Duchess who loves Snickers bars: Your book choice has to be a Historical Romance with a Duchess as one of the characters (she doesn't have to be the main character) and it has to be humorous. The same as example #1 - you choose how many books you want to read and plan them accordingly.

Example #3. This one will be tough! You want to attend a party on SciFi Way dressed as an Alien who wants to play Bobbing For Apples and loves to eat Junior Mints. Your book will have to be Science Fiction and it has to have an alien as one of the characters, the cover has to be green, AND the title has to contain one of the letters B,O,I,N,G,F, R,A,P,L,or E. And again, the same as example #1 - you choose how many books you want to read and plan them accordingly.

Now, how should you post your choices? That's entirely up to you! Whatever works for you, works for me, but here's how I'm going to list my selections:

Location - Historical Romance Road
Costume - I'll go dressed as a Rakish Libertine! (The hero is a Rake and no one said I had to dress as a woman!)
Candy - Snickers (the book is funny) and Skittles (the book cover is colorful.)
Book - At The Bride Hunt Ball

Party #2.

Location - The Haunted House on Paranormal Parkway
Costume - Vampire attire
Candy - Almond Joy (Blue cover, blue wrapper).
Book - Lover Unleashed (edgy PNR)

Party #3.

Location - Erotica Avenue
Costume - Black Corset and handcuffs
Game - Bobbing for Apples.
Book - - Breaking Free (erotica BDSM (bondage), "B" in the title)



Remember! You can choose to participate in as few or as many of the activities as you want to!

There are a couple of restrictions--

1. All books must be chosen from our Lisa's Ladies' Favorites List.

2. This challenge begins October 1 and goes through October 31st.

3. You can add to or remove from or edit your books as often as you want to, but you cannot start reading before October 1st and you must be done reading by October 31st.

4. You MUST give Alycia and Danielle a huge THANK YOU for helping me put this together and making sure that everything made sense!!!

Done! It was a great party. I was a little nervous to attend this one because I'd heard so many differing thoughts on it, but once there, I didn't want to leave! The party/plot itself was kind of lame, but the the hot men made it worth it staying until the party/book ended! Though I loved the Host/hero, I didn't care for the Hostess/heroine at all.
