That's ok. Goodreads will look at it and realize it was a mistake.

message 6: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Hi, Editio! My blog is http://rutecanhoto.blogspot.com
On the right side of the blog you'll find a list of books I'm going to read and review.

Hi, Karen! Sorry, I'm not familiar with SF (do you mean science fiction?). Anyway, I review every gender; I prefer YA and paranormal, but I like to read different genders from time to time for a change =)

message 7: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 62 comments Yes, I mean science fiction. I am not sure whether the currently "correct" abbreviation is SF or SciFi.

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Well, Karen, I read more often the term SciFi, but it's ok, I got the idea. Like I said, I read a little bit of every gender of books =)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Hi! If anyone would like me to review your book, just contact me by Goodreads message or by email rutecanhoto@iol.pt
Usually, authors send me the Smashword cupon or let me know how can I get the book for free from Amazon. Than I read it and I write a review on Goodreads, Amazon and/or Smashwords (depends from where I got the book, because we have to purchase it to be able to write a review on it). Next, I interview the author and I post everything in my blog http://rutecanhoto.blogspot.com I'm from Portugal, so I post both in portuguese and english, so that my comments can reach a whider audience =)

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 62 comments Thanks, Rute! I'm emailing!

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments You do not need to have purchased a book from Amazon to do a review on it. I've done several reviews on books I've gotten from the library. Reviews on Amazon help most though so even if you get the book from Smashwords or someplace else, you should still post a copy of the review on Amazon. If you read a book, especially one by an indie author, especially if you liked it, especially if there are no other posted reviews, please post a review on Amazon. They help a lot.

message 16: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Really, DL? I tried to post a review of a book I liked and Amazon didn't allow me to, claiming that I haven't purchased the book there...

message 17: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 62 comments I thought all you needed was to have an Amazon account. As a test, I posted a review of The Egoist by George Meredith yesterday, and it went through fine. I haven't bought that book since the late 1970's. :-)

message 18: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) I have an account. I'll try to post that review again...

message 19: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments I have done it many times. You do need an Amazon account but you don't need to have purchased that particular book, or album, or product, or whatever from them.

message 20: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Maybe the system was "down" or something then. I'll try again in that case

message 21: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments Please do. I just wrote a 5* review for an album by a French symphonic rock band (Wildpath) because I like their music and wanted to help promote them. I did not buy the album (MP3 download) from Amazon but I had no trouble posting a review.

message 22: by Everett (new)

Everett (evpowers) | 1 comments You have to have made a purchase on your Amazon account. Other than that, no problemo reviewing books you didn't buy from them. (Unless things have changed in the past couple of weeks.)

message 23: by Jonas (new)

Jonas Eriksson (jonaswrites) | 2 comments Hi, nice to be in the group. I've published a book called THE WAKE-UP CALL (contemporary fiction) and I wonder if there's anyone who would like to review it on Amazon or Smashwords. I'll make sure you get a free copy of course. It's an easy and quick read and will hopefully keep you entertained. Check it out at: http://goo.gl/t4JkW or http://thewakeupcallbook.com

Just message me or e-mail me at erikzona@gmail.com if you're interested. Thanks!

Ps. I'm also on twitter: @jonaswrites Ds.

Julia Group (GroupJulia) | 2 comments Rute wrote: "Really, DL? I tried to post a review of a book I liked and Amazon didn't allow me to, claiming that I haven't purchased the book there..."

I had a couple of people email me and tell me the same thing, that they had read my book The Ex-Apprentices, got it from Smashwords, and could not do a review of Amazon.

message 25: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments I've never had a problem doing it. As long I you have purchased something there and have an account, you should be able to do it. It works on Amazon.com anyway. I'm not sure about Amazon.co.uk or the the others.

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments Rute / Julia, here's an example of one I wrote. I got this book from the library but Amazon allowed me to post this review.
http://www.amazon.com/Hominids-Robert...

message 27: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) Hi, D.L. I guess I wasn't able to post that review, because I have to do a purchase first. All downloads I did from book in Amazon were for free, so I guess I have to purchase at least one item

message 28: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments That may be it. I purchased several books from them over the years before I did any reviews. Now with the closing of Borders (*sadness*), I will probably end up buying more.

message 29: by Rute (new)

Rute Canhoto (rutecanhoto) «Want to write a customer review?
To write a customer review: you must have used this account to complete a purchase* of an item from Amazon.com. There is a 48-hour waiting period after your first order has been shipped before you'll be able to submit your review...»
This is what I get. I just opened an Amazon account because authors asked me to get there their book for free to read and review.
I have a few doubts about purchasing on Amazon, mainly because I'm from Portugal, we use euros not dollars...
Anyway, what's "Borders"?

message 30: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments Hi Rute. Borders was a brick and mortar (physical) book store chain in the US that just went out of business. You should still be able to buy from Amazon.com and they will convert the currency. You may also be able to make a purchase in Euros from http://www.amazon.de/ I've bought music albums from them before. They converted my US dollars to Euros.

message 31: by D.L. (new)

D.L. Morrese (dl_morrese) | 63 comments Rute, I just checked amazon.de to see if my ebooks are available there. They are. The US price is $1.99 on amazon.com. On amazon.de it is EUR 1,68. That should give some idea of the conversion rate.

Tim Taylor (timctaylor) | 35 comments James wrote: "I have just uploaded my first ebook on Amazon and am a complete novice at on-line marketing. I would like to get a couple of reviews. What is the best way to go about this?"

Hi, James, good luck with your book. In my experience, the way to get eBooks reviewed is to ask book reviewers to review them. There are various lists online of places to send your book. Here's a good one: http://pippajay.wordpress.com/book-re... The basic approach is to query unless the reviewer asks in their review policy that you just send the book. Be prepared for most reviewers to not take on your book for review -- that's not a reflection of your book; most of the established reviewers are absolutely swamped with review requests.

Pamela Olson (pamelajolson) | 9 comments My indie book Fast Times in Palestine was recently picked up by a traditional publisher, and I'm doing one last KDP giveaway to thank my readers before the book goes dark until its 'official' release in spring.

Please feel free to snap it up and read at your leisure! If you enjoy it, feel free to let me know and I'll be in touch when it comes out again if you're interested in reviewing it... Thanks so much!

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 29 comments First I want to thank everyone who has posted these really great resources to get our ebooks reviewed. You're a tremendous help to new self-published authors like me who are trying to learn the ropes of epublishing. But let me follow that up with a question. I've so far only published short stories online, do reviewers typically review short fiction or do they stick to full novels?

Thanks,

Kevin: I might be able to review some short stories on my blog. If you want more info you can message me. :)
