Almeta (menfrommarrs) In the quest to save a soul, clerics look for solutions to mysteries, if only to get the person to come to terms with their sins.

Almeta (menfrommarrs) Ellis Peters pseudonym of Edith Pargeter in A Morbid Taste for Bones presents us with Brother Cadfael, who has given up a rousing secular life as a soldier and sailor for a quiet spiritual one as a Benedictine monk. Yet in these historically faithful stories, he always finds trouble with the medieval feudal system or his monastic brethren and the townsfolk.

Simon Brett's Mrs. Pargeter series is really one of my favorites. Also quite good is his Feathering series, featuring a female lead who solves mysteries while having middle-aged angst.
