This book, that book

Is it wrong of me?

Totally agree. The whole vampire craze baffles me; vampires belong in horror stories, not romance novels. And especially not romances aimed at teenagers!
thing is I've liked vampires since since my early teens but they've become such a craze and the books are not worthy of being on any top list.
They would be in mine. Of all time? No. Of the last decade? I'm not sure. My comment was more about vampires belong in horror stories comment that Sophia made. I did enjoy twilight a lot though, I was completely engrossed in it and had to read all of them as fast as possible. :)
I read them quickly too and it's not that I didn't think they were ok it's just that I think they might be a transient addition to lists and that they are overrated.
I do think they get slated far too much - easy target I suppose. It's a shame really because they have encouraged reading.

It's so easy to jump on the bandwagon and slate it/love it without reading them or watching the films/tv shows. I loved twilight after I had previously laughed at the idea of vampires twinkling in the sunlight, now I kind of think why not?
But yes I do think they are a bit overrated :)

I've read all the Twilight books and quite enjoyed them in a way. I know people who never normally read books who have read them all so I am not anti-twilight but do they belong on a 'best book' list? not in my opinion, I think that reflects their popularity not their quality iykwim?

I agree with Jo, if reflects more on the popularity than the quality, which might be what the top 10/100 list is all about.

I'm not sure if I should have let that colour my opinion but I don't know if I could stand to read them!
(He's very intellegent and rather funny, http://www.youtube.com/user/nerimon#p... just incase anyone is interested. He's also in a band that writes songs about Dr Who :D)
I am watching them at the moment Hannah I have to say he's making me lol and I liked the books hehe.

Same with me, as it happens. I was in the third year of my literature degree, and I'd stopped reading for pleasure almost completely. I read so much for work that it just wasn't the leisure activity it used to be. Then I saw the advert for the film on my way out of the cinema one week, and heard people talking about the books. I sought them out, read the first, and then read the other three straight after.
They're not the best written books I've ever come across, and I don't think they deserve to be in every top ten list purely for that reason. Saying that, though, they'll always mean something to me because they made me believe that reading didn't always have to be work. It turns out that that's meant more to me (now I'm unemployed) than a lot of other things, and I guess I have Twilight to thank for it.
IMO it's not the best anything (series, vampire novel, YA novel, romance, etc.), but it still has some personal value. If it's inclusion in a list is a gague of quality, though, I'd be suspicous of it too!

Is that wrong?
I know they are popular but I don't think they deserve to be on a best books list. They won't be in 10 years.
