Caitlin | 1 comments Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, by Sara Shepard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the books. They're not my usual cup of tea, but they sucked me in and won't let go. However, I don't feel that the TV shows are up to the book standard. This is a little surprising/disappointing to me, because I'm pretty sure the author is involved with the shows. Especially The Lying Game. I feel like Pretty Little Liars has strayed from the books and is just sort of aimless. With The Lying Game, however, it seems that it's following a totally different plot, just kept the characters names. Sutton isn't even dead! How do you translate a book that's written half from the perspective of a dead girl, if you make that girl alive?! I must admit, I'm intrigued though. So I have been watching.

Before watching the series, though, I was thinking that Ethan was Sutton's real killer. Think about it. He just knew that Emma wasn't Sutton. He's also been "helping" her, but think how clever that would be if he was the killer! AND, he could have framed the Twitter Twins (by the way, where are they in the show?!) because he told Emma about their embarrassing nicknames, which HAPPENED to be their alternate Twitter accounts. I know it's not ironclad reasoning, but I'm also considering the author. There are MANY similarities between Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game. Who was A the first time around? Mona. Hanna's "best friend." The last person you'd suspect. I tend to see Ethan in that same position.

Though, like I said, maybe the show has more to do with the books than it's letting on. Maybe it is something weird going on with the parents. Mads' dad was there when Emma arrived in Tucson. That seemed fishy.

Who knows. I don't know anybody else who has read these books though, and I've been keeping all my theories bottled up. I'm ready to burst. I want to hear what others' think about this. ANY thoughts regarding either series are more than welcome. That's why they are so effing good. They make you think and want to discuss them.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I Love The Lying Game Series so I can't even bare to watch the TV series since they totall mucked it up. I am with you..I was like uh Sutton's dead, how can they make her alive in the show!!! Just couldn't watch it and I was so excited about the new series. I just finished Never Have I Ever! Total cliffhanger ending!!!!!! Can't wait for Feb to get here so I can read Two Truth's and a Lie!!!!

I admit I thought at one time that maybe Ethan was the killer but then I was thinking that it could be Charlotte's dad? I think he was having a affair with Sutton and killed her...lol..well then the end of Never Have I Ever has me wondering about another boy..but I still don't think he did it either..lol

Diana I've only seen a few episodes of The Lying Game and they caught my attention but didn't really keep it. I haven't read the books though, they keep going on and off my TBR shelf here, I'll probably get to them eventually.

As for Pretty Little Liars I only read the first 4 and don't see myself trying to finish them, at least anytime soon. I really enjoyed them but I don't know I also really like the show so I kind of don't want them conflicting with themselves.

Michelle (Pink Polka Dot Books) (pinkpolkadotbooks) | 8 comments Ive read all the books and love them.... and i've seen every episode of both shows and love them too! The books and shows are different for sure, but I think equally good!
With PLL, I'm happy that it's not strictly following the books because that way you don't know who A is... Also I love that the girls on the show are best friends, because in the books they're always avoiding each other and I keep wanting them to be how they were in Jamaica before the thing happened.

With TLG I think the show is better because I don't really like all those pranks they play in the books, it sort of gets on my nerves. But I sort of wish the real Sutton was dead bc on the show she is a you-know-what...twins are supposed to have a bond, not fight over a guy :( ...I don't like how they dress the Lying Game girls, those clothes are for like 40 yr olds not high school girls.

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) After reading these posts I am glad I haven't read the books yet! I have been watching the series. I do want to read the books though.....but I want to get through at least this season before I start the books since they seem to be very different. Then I won't be as disappointed. I know I like the show and my POV on that won't change. I'll just think the books are even better! :) I haven't watched or read PPL. I don't want to get sucked into another book series until I finish the ones I have started, nor another TV series. I already have about 5 or 6 shows I record and one of these days I'll have enough time off to watch them!
