Jill (jillelise) Alright, I've emailed all the mods and I think we agree to the idea! So, some guidelines...

When it is your month, start the nomination thread on the 15th. Allow about a week for nominations, then start the poll. Announce the winner by the 1st of the month prior to the read.

For December read
Oct 15 - nomination thread
Oct 23rd (ish) poll
November 1st - Announce read for December

Then, start the group read thread for whichever book is chosen.

If for some reason life gets crazy (not that that EVER happens) and you can't lead your assigned month, let other mods know and we'll help out! If this schedule doesn't work (you already know your assigned month will be crazy) please let us all know and we can change it!

November read - Kwesi
December read - Jill
January read - Teri-lynn
February read - Lady Danielle
March read - Nicolle

We can keep this rotation if it works for everyone. When it's not your month, focus more on the other threads so that everything is covered!

Questions/Comments/Concerns/etc?

Hope everyone has a great day!

February should work fine for me. Thanks for putting this together, Jill.

message 3: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Okay great! And, my pleasure!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks again Jill for doing this!!! January is great for me because I have the first week off!!!

message 5: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Hooray! A week off sounds fantastic!:) I'll be jealous.

:) And, you are welcome too!

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Thanks Jill! What if there is a tie in the poll?

message 7: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Excellent question! What are people's thoughts? Maybe make those the next 2 months books?

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

We could do that or go alphabetically???

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Or we could read both books for one month? Well, a little bit harsh or let's make a new poll for the two books. Hehe. I think we have to create a thread for suggestions.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
I like the idea of doing the books sequentially, or alphabetically. Or even two books that month.

message 11: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle March is fine for me. Not sure about 2 books a month, we do have buddy reads? What do you think, of there is a demand we shall do it.

message 12: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Nicolle, I agree. I think if there's a tie, have a vote off, and then offer the other as a buddy read.

Hope everyone is doing well today!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I am with Nicolle and Jill!!

Hey Nicolle been awhile!!! Hope everything is going good at school!!!!

I am great today Jill!! We found out that our store won a platinum award and we are up for a 10,000 dollar cash prize!!!!

Hope everyone has a good rest of the week...We have our thanksgiving this weekend so again I am going to have a nice relaxing long weekend!!

message 14: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle I know it has been a while! I am as busy as ever. School work, currently have dried paint all over my hands as I'm painting the living room. Sorting out my application to university which I should send off in the next week or two. It is so exiting and fast! I have no time to breath...
oh, I also turned 18 the other week! :D

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
Happy Birthday, Nicolle.

message 16: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Happy Birthday, Nicolle!!

message 17: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Thankyou! Everyone keeps asking me if I've had a legal drink yet but I haven't...I'm such a boring person... hahahaha.

You must not live in the US where the legal age is 21.

message 19: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yep, I'm from the UK where it is 18. I think it is 21 to buy alcohol from the supermarket but you can go to clubs and pubs ect.

message 20: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Happy late birthday! How exciting...so many changes ahead for you!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Nicole...sorry I missed your birthday!!!! Hope u had a great day!!! Hope the applications for university got all sorted out!!! Wow 18!!! Wish I could be 18 again!!! Although I don't think that I would do anything differently as it all led me to the wonderful life I have now!!!! Enjoy it Nicolle!!!!

I have a question for you.

Should we try to post discussion questions for the group reads? They wouldn't have to be mandatory. I think some readers like a more structured discussion, and some like to wing it. If we have questions, those who are so inclined could use them to structure their discussion thoughts.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I think that would be a good idea. It would be interesting to see how differently people interpret the books!!!

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Belated happy birthday Nicole! Haha. Sorry for the late greeting.

I like Lady Danielle's idea and I'm currently reading the book for the future questions. I'll announce the winner soon. Have fun!

On The Hobbit thread, some posters are interested in doing a chapter by chapter discussion. I'm not 100% pro that myself, but I think it's cool if some readers do go that way. What do you guys think?

message 26: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle That is a fab idea Danielle!

message 27: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Jill are you making the nominateion thread for December soon??

message 28: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle You already have...sorry!

Just a reminder for people to put things in the description at the top of the group page. e.g. ---nominate december read---

message 29: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments I like the per chapter discussion but I think handling most of the members and updating things maybe it will took us more time and a little bit heavy for us. Well, that is a good suggestion for reading buddy threads.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
I agree, Kwesi!

message 31: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Lady Danielle, are you planning to do an experiment for the reading buddy like what you suggested? I'm planning to join if you gonna do it. Hehe.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
I'm not really that organized, to be honest! I don't think I would do chapter by chapter. Maybe in chapter blocks. We'll see.

message 33: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Sorry I'm behind..this weekend was crazy! I like the question idea, not so much the chapter by chapter one..

Hope you're all doing well today!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
Hi Jill. I hope things slow down for you this week.

message 35: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Thanks Danielle! I think they will..it seems like lately I have things to do every night. But, I get a trip out of town this weekend with my boyfriend, so even if the week is crazy, I have that to look forward to!:)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
That's true. I love looking forward to the weekends, especially when they aren't booked up.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello all!! I didn't forget about you!!! I like the idea of questions but not the chapter discussion as some read faster then others

message 38: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yep yep yep.

message 39: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Kwesi 章英狮 wrote: "Thanks Jill! What if there is a tie in the poll?"

I am not a moderator, and I'm brand new to this group, but I'll share what the administrator of a different group (Shelfari)does.
The admin does NOT vote UNLESS she has to break a tie.

Since you are rotating the duty of moderator, you would each sit out the vote ONLY for the month you are responsible. And you would vote ONLY if there was a tie and you needed to break it.

Just a suggestion. Feel free to disregard.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

That sounds like a good idea Tessa...thank you for the info!!!!

message 41: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yep that's a fab idea, thanks Tessa.

message 42: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Love it too! I voted in this poll, good thing there wasn't a tie! Going forward, I think it's great!

message 43: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Note: remember to add books to our shelf as soon as you know which has been chosen. 1984 wasn't added so I just did it as it didn't say we were currently reading anything.

message 44: by kwesi 章英狮 (new)

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Sorry Nicolle, I forgot to remind you.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey guys...when did you want me to post the poll for the January read???

HOpe everyone is good....I know it's been awhile...

message 46: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Whenever you want Teri-Lynn.

I know what you mean, I have been absent ALOT! Too much hard work which I'm doing (HA!).

I'm really dissapointed because for my application to uni my teachers all predicted me B grades (I know this is because last year my grades were a bit naff) but this basically means I won't get into the unis I want to go to as they want AAB and won't even glance at my application because my grades are predicted low.

So...the plan is the apply anyway and when I get refused I will get the grades (hopefully) anyway and somehow on results day persuade someone to let me into their uni!

If that fails I guess I am doomed to a low level uni :S

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Chin up Nicolle....Don't stress out too bad about it, I know that's easier said then done, but please try.

I will start the book list next week if I don't forget...I have been finding that time and days and weeks and Months are just flying by and I can't seem to catch up to the time....

message 48: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle I know what you mean, I think someone is stealing the time...

message 49: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Nicolle, so sorry to hear that! Hope everything works out in the end!

Terri-lynn, I started it around the 15th. Wanted to give everyone time to nominate books and vote. I think it's good to announce it a month before, especially if people are using the library!

Hope you are both doing well. And I totally understand the crazy time flying by. My sister recently got engaged, so I'm in Maid of Honor mode, and started a second job! Good thing there are lots of us to help out!:)

message 50: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yep it is good? I can't belive you have a second job, I can't even find a first one!
