Caitlin | 2 comments Hello... I posted this exact comment in a different group. Nobody replied, so I joined a more specific group, lol. I'm SO into these books though, and I have nobody to discuss them with :(

...

Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, by Sara Shepard. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the books. They're not my usual cup of tea, but they sucked me in and won't let go. However, I don't feel that the TV shows are up to the book standard. This is a little surprising/disappointing to me, because I'm pretty sure the author is involved with the shows. Especially The Lying Game. I feel like Pretty Little Liars has strayed from the books and is just sort of aimless. With The Lying Game, however, it seems that it's following a totally different plot, just kept the characters names. Sutton isn't even dead! How do you translate a book that's written half from the perspective of a dead girl, if you make that girl alive?! I must admit, I'm intrigued though. So I have been watching.

Before watching the series, though, I was thinking that Ethan was Sutton's real killer. Think about it. He just knew that Emma wasn't Sutton. He's also been "helping" her, but think how clever that would be if he was the killer! AND, he could have framed the Twitter Twins (by the way, where are they in the show?!) because he told Emma about their embarrassing nicknames, which HAPPENED to be their alternate Twitter accounts. I know it's not ironclad reasoning, but I'm also considering the author. There are MANY similarities between Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game. Who was A the first time around? Mona. Hanna's "best friend." The last person you'd suspect. I tend to see Ethan in that same position.

Though, like I said, maybe the show has more to do with the books than it's letting on. Maybe it is something weird going on with the parents. Mads' dad was there when Emma arrived in Tucson. That seemed fishy.

Who knows. I don't know anybody else who has read these books though, and I've been keeping all my theories bottled up. I'm ready to burst. I want to hear what others' think about this. ANY thoughts regarding either series are more than welcome. That's why they are so effing good. They make you think and want to discuss them.

Quina (aprettystory) (msquina) I love both of the series. When it comes to Pretty Little Liars, I love both the book series and tv show (I'm obsessed with the tv show). Still, I love the books way more. The only thing I don't like about the book is that the girls aren't close like they are in the show. In the book, they all lead separate lives and near the end, they come together because of A. As for The Lying Game, I love the bok series. My favorite part was that Sutton was dead and that she is involved with Emma's life from her point. This is what kind of turn me off about the show, because I found that angle interesting and engaging. Another thing I dislike about the show is that Sutton and Ethan were in a relationship. In the book I liked him with Emma. I don't know, I never got the vibe that Ethan killed Sutton, but now that I think about it, it can be a possibility. I haven't really kept up with the show. I haven' had time to watch it. But, I was really suspicious of Madeline's dad and that whole stuff with their birth mom. Oh and another thing I dislike about the show, was Thayer is with Sutton. I loved the mystery with Thayer in the book. I'm not bashing the show, because I liked the episodes I had the chance to watch. But when it comes to comparing them to the book series, the tv shows kind of flop.

I absolutely LOVE both series. All I can say when it comes ot Pretty Little Liars is that I am both obsessed with the books and the show. The books are amazing and just keep getting better and the show is SOOOO GOOD too! With PLL, I don't mind that the show doesn't follow the books - I can kind of understand why because the books are pretty complicated with twists and turns all over the place. I think it would be quite difficult for producers to transfer the story so exactly to the screen.

I love The Lying Game books (obviously, since I created this club, ahaha) but I don't actually watch the show. I watched the first episode and although I think Alexanda Chando is PERFECT for Emma & Sutton, I just didn't like the way the story was so different. I didn't like the idea of Sutton being alive and I feel like when I read the books, the game they played sounded so incredibly dangerous and freaky but on the show, it just seemed like a load of girls messing around and playing a few pranks. Maybe I should give the show more of a chance and watch more episodes, what do you think? Has it gotten better? xx

Erika (erikamiller) | 5 comments I think Sutton may be dead in the show, that this is how they can make the books similar and follow the same plot.

Denisse | 2 comments Hey I just started reading the book, im actually halfway through the book and i'm finishing it today. After I finish it today I would like to start watching the tv show. The thing is that there are four books and just 10 espisodes. Ihe only thing i really want to know is in how many books are those 10 episodes based on? I mean those 10 episodes could be based only on the first book, or the first and second, or all the way to the fourth one. could you please help me out here?

It is mainly the first book. I watched the television series before reading the books, it didn't really spoil anything for me though. I have to admit both the books and the television series are a little different but are definitely worth it. Are you liking the books so far?

Denisse | 2 comments I finished the first book, and i've seen like 5 minutes of the first episode. I prefer the book than the tv series. I mean they spoil the story because in the tv show sutton is not dead! I'm pretty disappointed about that, so I prefer the books. I'm about to start the second book.

I know, that is the part that especially sucks. I prefer the books too, keep watching the show it does get better.

I thought the exact same thing but I started to watch it more and more and like the way that it has some kind of the same idea but totally different. It includes some things from the book but is taking its own direction so it can have its own idea

Gadir (gadir_m) | 2 comments In the show Emma and Sutton meet. But then Sutton dies. So in the book they never met so it does have diffrwnces. I enjoy the books way much better. I dont bother to watch the show.

Jordan | 2 comments I really don't get the show it's nothing like the books. I know they're not supposed to be the same but it's really weird like both twin are visible on the show.

Caitlin | 2 comments I just read the last book and I'm so thrilled to actually be right regarding a Sara Shepard book. SO thrilled.

Also, after reading other comments on here... I just wanna say they really blew it with TLG show. They tried to change too much, it got away from them, and now it's cancelled. They've done that with PLL, too, and now I don't even think they know where they're going. At this point, the only thing in the books correlating with the TV show is the release date. Which, I gotta say, is just confusing. I'd rather the book come out in the show's off-season. It gets the elements of both all swirled up in my head.

But it when i came to finding who was the twins mom in season 1 i had read the first book so i atomatically new it was rebecca (becky in the books) but in all i prefer the books over any show/movie but i also love the show/show to anything! Tlys | 1 comments Hello there caitlin. I am so in love with both the books. Ia m really glad i can share about it on here. Oh my gods it been almost an year since the last message on this topic but i will comment anyways.I never watched the shows spare for a few episodes of PLL. And i Love the books and them alone. I was really displeased to learn that some changes were made in the PLL show. But, the TLG show is entirely different from the book, It has its plot twisted just like you said. I checked out the Wikipedia of both the shows. That was enough to keep me from watching the show. Coming to the killer. God, I totally had that awful feeling even from the very first meeting that ethan had to be sutton's killer. How he always seemed to be over supportive and encouraged her to seek the killer and suggested the suspects, how from his house and where he kept his telescope the canyon trail is in view, how shocked he was to learn that emma has found his file and how relieved he got when she said didnt go through the file. How that stupid girl also mentioned that nisha helped her with access, and then the death of nish, how eager he was to know if emma wanted to get away with him once the mystery was solved. Just about his every move pointed me to think that he is the killer. I had read PLL before the lying game And that some how played a part in guessing who the killer might be. But unlike you, It was his moves that i carefully watched. At the end, the books rule.
