Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) Yolonda's Genius

It was a Newbery Honor in 1996. I liked one of Carol Fenner's other books, Randall's Wall, and I'm interested in seeing how this one compares.

It's a fantasy series. It's kind of castle times, but with fighting, and mythical creatures.

Adriana Reading Absolutely Maybe

It's like life in Hollywood for this girl and her family. Haven't started it yet so that's all I know.

The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan

message 23: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Yeah, that's the first one. If you look at his blog you'll see 6 new characters for the second series. Don't see it yet. You'll ruin some things.

Steal that book from your brother!!

Adriana Reading Shift

message 28: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Shift was really good. Now reading Perfect Chemistry which is not as great as thought it would be.

message 29: by Ivyscar ~Echo~ (new)

Ivyscar ~Echo~ (EREakins) | 28 comments Right now, I know I said I'm reading Eona, The Last Dragoneye, but I'm also reading The Hunger Games. Has anyone else read it? Everyone I know says its like the best book ever.

message 30: by Adriana (new)

Adriana they are great!!!

message 31: by Viv (new)

Viv (a_pocky_box) I love the first book of the Hunger Games Trilogy!

message 32: by Viv (new)

Viv (a_pocky_box) I just got back Clockwork Angel from my friend who borrowed it before I could finish reading the book. I can't seem to get back into it. So I've decided to read Possess as I try to ease back into the other book.

Adriana Reading The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson

message 34: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Do not read Perfect Chemistry

message 35: by Viv (new)

Viv (a_pocky_box) Are the poems for a class or just for fun? I've never got into poems unless it is for a class

message 36: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Just for fun. I feel like I should broaden my mind. lol. I do like poems somewhat so I'm trying to get into them.

message 37: by Viv (new)

Viv (a_pocky_box) That's a good idea. I should do that too :D

message 38: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Ugh. I actually gave up on it. I couldn't really understand most of it. And it's all old... I have to find a modern poet.

message 40: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I liked Waiting for Normal. It was talked about a lot as one of the major Newbery contenders for 2009. While it didn't end up taking home any Newbery awards, it did manage to land the Schneider Family Book Award, which puts it in really good company (A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass, Rules by Cynthia Lord, etc.)

message 41: by Adriana (last edited Oct 10, 2011 02:28PM) (new)

Adriana Cool! - A Mango-Shaped Space

My mom read Waiting for Normal before me and actually liked it!!

message 42: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Wow. Someone just created a group on A Mango-Shaped Space.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

A Mango-Shaped Space? What's it about?

message 44: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Something to do with this girls senses and her feeling colors? Idk. I don't remember. Josiah tell Ashby!!!!

message 45: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) The book is about a teenage girl named Mia who has synesthesia, a mostly harmless syndrome that allows people who have it to hear, smell and even taste in color. For people with synesthesia, all of their senses are linked together even more closely than for most of us, though it's hard to know exactly what causes their unusual overlap in color sensitivity. A Mango-Shaped Space even tells of a few ways that synesthetes have found to temporarily enhance their condition, to the point that some have said that while they are in the enhanced state, they can tell whether people are lying or telling the truth based on the color of their words.

Really, though, this book is about Mia trying to find her niche in our world, and the relationship that she form with another teenager named Adam on the internet. Mia is just trying to live a normal life, and her synesthesia doesn't change that fact. A Mango-Shaped Space is a powerful book, probably the best that I've read from Wendy Mass, and it was one of my favorite novels of 2003.

Ivyscar ~Echo~ (EREakins) | 28 comments It sounds awesome!! Now I'm reading The Nine Lives of Chloe King and also the Pandora Hearts manga series. I LOVE Pandora Hearts!!!

Viv (a_pocky_box) Adriana wrote: "Josiah (:

YAY! Wasn't it a exciting reading the pages in Divergent?

message 49: by Josiah (new)

Josiah (kenjenningsjeopardy74) I'd heard of Divergent and have been interested in giving it a try. Is it safe to say, then, that you would recommend it?

message 50: by Viv (new)

Viv (a_pocky_box) I would defiantly recommend it. It is similar to the Hunger Games Trilogy in its essence of action, if not more. Also it has this on this "edge feeling" as you're reading the book. I think you will like it. :)
