Hello! I love thrillers, though not so enthusiastic about procedural books. Have read everything by John Sandford but I know I need to widen my author list. Also read Parker and Burke. Glad to be here!

I don't know about new, but I've been in the group before, recently returned. Currently reading The first Kate Shugak novel. I recently finished "The Queen" by Steven James.

How were the Shugak and James's novels, Hugh?

I only read the first one (finished it this morning actually) and I liked it. The criminal mystery wasn't that complicated, I guessed right before she did, but I loved the whole, setting, complete with the social problems facing american indians and the off beat nature of people in the Great White North. It was well written and a smooth read. A lot had me interested even without the murders to solve. I really like Kate Shugak's character story. (The back story?)

I'd say it wasn't the super complex crime suspense thriller like the Bowers Files, but it was competently written and enjoyable. It's a good read, especially if your just looking for interesting characters and supporting cast. I'd call it a serious tale, not over burdened with humor (but there was some) or overly complex.

I think I have a review tagged on there somewhere. It's a funny read that had me laughing aloud from start to finish. I even found the chapter names funny.
