Great! The first book is The Eye of the World.
I'm planning on starting with it tomorrow. We could even work in a mini book discussion for each one (or not).

Nope. With all the other challenges, book reviews etc. I have on my plate I'll be happy with sticking to a WoT book a month.
It's not like this is going to be a race (unless Barbara joins :] ).

I was really excited to join this challenge but then I read message 7 by Crusader and now I don't know if I would be Welcome :)
Nah Kidding all in good fun. LOL!
But I would like to joinm this challenge but not just right now. I have always wanted to read this series and have looked at the books several times but I do not own any of them. So I will first have to buy them and that will have to wait since I have bought way to many books as it is and I first want to finish some other challenges. So I might jump in in a couple of months and catch up. So for now, Crusader, you can sleep easily :)

I was only kidding Barbara. You are more than welcome to join in whenever you want to.
The aim of the challenge is just to get caught up to the series by the time the last book gets published. You'll then have the option of buying the new one or waiting for the PB.
It's not a race to see who gets done first, there's no ranks or prizes, just some moral support for getting through some heavy tomes!

I know. The first thing I did after reading your comment was call my mum because I thought it was so funny! I just had to share the fun with someone :)
I think it is a really good idea to read the series and I would love to join but I want to finish the A-Z challenges and the Diabolical first and get a start on the other challenges that start in a couple of weeks. And then I first have to buy the books. That means that I will be jumping in probably somewhere beginning of next year I think, but I look forward to it and look forward to discussing the books.

Ok, since there seems to be quite some interest in this I've created a folder of its own for the challenge (hopefully Lu doesn't hit me!).
That is a great banner!
And it is great to have a folder just for this challenge since I expect every book to have its own discussion.

Love the banner and the dramatic intro! But this is one challenge I'm just going have to just say no to. It's a great idea though. Now that we know we can make folders without Lu killing us (although you have the advantage of her not knowing where you live and I don't) we can look into doing something similar with some other long running series.
Lol Lauren
I'm up for long running series discussions :)
If you guys want to do other books then go for it :)

Lies :P

I have to admit though I am a serial rereader of this series, read book 1 - 5 then stopped. Then a couple of years later I read up to book 10, then last year I read the whole series. So it will be my fourth time, is that sad?
Hi, Tracy. You are more than welcome to join in whenever you like.
Rereading the series is definitely not sad. I know I've read up to some point (5?) and then completely forgot about it, so I'm trying to get back into the swing of things again.

@Tracy Welcome, no its not sad. I think all of us have reread some series or the other more than 4 times. *Looks at Lu*

Lol @ the comment about Lu. :)

Hope they sort it out for you. They should borrow you a new Kindle Fire in the mean time.
@Kahlan hope your baby gets better soon!
@Naz lol you won't believe it but I started to listen to the HP audio books again this morning...

If anyone wants the series in mobi format for their kindle, just let me know.:-)
You are more than welcome to join in Emma. Catching up might be tough though. I'm one book behind and I just can't seem to get back on track.

Tor just announced that the official release date of A Memory of Light, the last book in the series, is 8 January 2013. That gives us a bit more time to work with for those who started late or those who are behind (like I am).
So now the question is. Should we stick to the original schedule or extend the challenge to the end of December?

I was thinking of perhaps splitting March and October's books over two months. Those are the longest in length and that should give people chance to catch up.
Thoughts?

That's actually a great idea. I think we should go for that.

Good luck Naz, I finished it. While I enjoyed the series and Sanderson's conclusion some of the books were drawn out way too long and bogged down the story. Which book are you on?

WoT is one of my favorite series!
I'm not sure how I missed this challenge :( - and I will eventually get round to re-reading the series...
I've heard quite a few people (really)complain about the middle couple of books being too slow.
If it helps - think of the series as one really LONG book, and those books as slow chapters. :)
There are also a number of die-hard Jordan Fans that didn't like Sanderson's input. I on the hand was just happy to finally get the rest of the story! And I think Sanderson did a pretty good job too.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.
The final book of the Wheel of Time series (A Memory of Light) is slated for a November 2012 release date.
The aim of the Wheel of Time challenge is to read the 13 books in the Wheel of Time series by the end of October 2012 in order to be prepared for the appearance of the final book.
How it works:
For the next 13 months we'll read one book in the WoT series per month.
You are welcome to join in at any time. If you've already read a specific book or want to read ahead of schedule that's fine, but please don't post any spoilers.
This is not a race. You can read at your own pace although I would suggest sticking to one book a month. Some of these are hefty tomes indeed and if you fall too far behind you might not be able to catch up.
Books to read:
Oct 2011 - The Eye of the World - 814p
Nov 2011 - The Great Hunt - 734p
Dec 2011 - The Dragon Reborn - 624p
Jan 2012 - The Shadow Rising - 1006p
Feb 2012 - The Fires of Heaven - 989p
Mar 2012 - Lord of Chaos - 1011p
THE REBOOT
Since the challenge fizzled out in the end with all of the participants succumbing to fatigue it's time to blow some new life into it.
Since the MMPB will be released in October it fits nicely with where the previous challenge was set to end. Only a year later.
Apr 2013 - A Crown of Swords - 896p
May 2013 - The Path of Daggers - 685p
Jun 2013 - Winter's Heart - 780p
Jul 2012 - Crossroads of Twilight - 846p
Aug 2013 - Knife of Dreams - 837p
Sept 2013 - The Gathering Storm - 1071p
Oct 2013 - Towers of Midnight - 1218p
[Approximately 11,511 pages based on MMPB]
Let the journey begin...
