This is where authors can advertise their books to the readers. Please use the thread that corresponds with the type of book you have written. Do not put your book in more than one category. I know,I know, your latest book is both Sci-Fi AND Historical Non-fiction, but you have to choose.

* Please only use this thread for your post. Individual threads will put in a time capsule and buried in my front yard.

A modern novel about relationships. It contains humour, drama, suspense. It's a drama about how we can sometimes take things for granted, and how running away from a problem does not mean that the problem has gone away...

Murdo Morrison Hi, my name is Murdo Morrison. My novel, Roses of Winter is set in World War 2 Scotland. While the book does have exciting scenes of action, the heart of the story focuses on the lives of the women at home as they strive to bring their families safely through the war. Thank you. I try to come up with simple, distinctive titles that convey a theme of the book. In this case, the idea that people can find solace in each other and experience personal growth even, or especially, in a bad time. Ironically, in Britain you can sometimes find roses with snow on the petals.

Here's a short synopsis.

When Annie, recently diagnosed with unexplained infertility, and Sarah, a stay-at-home mom, meet through a Classics Book Club, each thinks the other one's life is so much better than her own. But is the grass truly greener on the other side of the fence?

James Bruno (jamesbruno) | 7 comments I write political thrillers. All three of my novels have been Kindle paid genre bestsellers. My latest, "Tribe," has just been released. It is a tale about how power, love, and fathers and daughters come into play in conflict-riven Afghanistan, and how the government gets it all wrong. What separates "Tribe" from its competition is its authenticity - so authentic that the U.S. government censored it.

Ian Ellis | 6 comments Hello everyone.

I'm new to this forum, but have been on Goodreads for a while.

My book, 'Have a Nice Weekend' was published by Night Publishing in August. I would classify it as Contemporary Fiction, although the publisher has marked it as Romance. It tells the story of a middle-aged man, Will and his lonely existence, interspersed with key moments in his life - meeting his wife, the birth of his children and the eventual breakdown of his marriage.

The blurb from the book is:

" 'Have A Nice Weekend' is less the story of two hearts breaking as of time running out ….

It is the sound of marital negotiations breaking down.

Women will read this book and think, “Exactly! I only want to be noticed, to be loved, to be considered …. It doesn't take much …..”

Men will read this and go, “God, I've done that! How many times has she done that to me? By what right …..?”

Whatever the requests Will agreed to comply with and then didn't, he is miserable now.

Abi was his first girlfriend. When she said she loved him, he was taken by surprise but kind of agreed. They got married, but she made all the arrangements for the wedding.

When she became pregnant, it was because she decided it was time and stopped taking precautions, but Will thought Sophie was the most beautiful baby in the world when she was born.

However time, stress and misunderstandings took their toll, and now they live apart.

Now for the big questions - what have they learned? Does Will care enough to try to put things right, and does Abi care enough to let him?"

It sounds serious and a little depressing, which it is at times. But it is also laced with what one commentator on Authonomy called 'dry, sardonic wit'.

It is a book for anyone who is in a relationship, or is thinking of starting one.

Have A Nice Weekend

For faith, for friendship, for freedom they will defy the most powerful man in France - Richelieu.

In the time of Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, when being a Protestant could mean death, The Huguenot Sword roamed the streets of Paris by night, defending those faithful to the young heretical religion. The nobility scorned them as ruffians, to the oppressed Protestants they were saviors, but to the Cardinal's Guards they were a pestilence needing to be terminated.

The situation grows desperate when those in power launch a bold plan to destroy the group. One wrong move can be fatal. But the ordeal of Paris pales in comparison to the possible annihilation of their faith and people at La Rochelle.

Clare Ashton | 28 comments Hi,

I've just added my novel Pennance to Kindle and would categorise it as contemporary women's fiction / suspense. Here's the description:

Lucy is reclusive and paranoid after the death of her partner, Jake, in a car accident. She lives in a small, introverted village in Cornwall (UK) called Pennance, and is surrounded by Jake's family and memories of him. She feels intensely guilty about his death and thinks someone is out to get her in retribution. Relief appears to come with the arrival of a neighbour, Karen - an older woman with two children. They bond through Lucy's admission of her part in Jake's death and Karen's need of support through a divorce. But their relationship stirs old jealousies and soon Lucy's life is in danger after all.

I've added a sample chapter to the book's goodreads page:

Lee Holz Impediments Impediments (Sonnet Trilogy, #1) by Lee Holz

The Sonnet Trilogy is about six people and spans two countries, two cultures and the societies in which they live. Their loves, losses, successes and failures take place in the turbulent 1950s and 1960s. In the US, the civil rights movement is under way. In Switzerland, the sexual revolution has dawned. In both countries, old attitudes and prejudices still prevail. Women’s liberation is still unknown, yet a few brave pioneers are throwing off the bonds of gender stereotypes. Book I, Impediments, focuses on cousins Beatrice, Gerard and Paul. Born to privilege in Geneva, Switzerland, they are sophisticated, well educated and wealthy. Their relationships will be complicated by close family ties, Gerard’s decision to go to the United States and Beatrice’s determination to become a doctor, one of the very few women to do so in Switzerland in the 1950s. The Americans Sarah, Lily and Jack are introduced, but the impact of their relationships with the Swiss and one another is fully realized in Book II, Alteration, and Book III, True Minds

John Logan (johnaalogan) | 65 comments Hello All from Highlands of Scotland!

I published my new novel, The Survival of Thomas Ford, as a Kindle ebook on Christmas Day 2011.
It means a lot to me to finally have a chance to get this book out to readers, because this novel had been locked in under contract with a London literary agent for over a year...nearer 18 months...felt longer...
My agent was certain he could sell the book, and the film consultant at the agency, who had been responsible for discovering Slumdog Millionaire as an unpublished manuscript and getting it developed into a film, thought my book was the best she had read at that agency in the last 4 years.
My agent found several editors who "loved the book", but the sales depts of the publishing houses did not agree and no sale was made.
So I have taken the book back into my own hands to sell direct to readers (hopefully)!
The novel is contemporary fiction, what you might call a literary thriller.
I would love to know what readers think of it!
All very best, John

Perfection, by Tristan Hopkinson:
John Logan has created that rare thing - a thriller with a seriously literary voice behind it. His story-telling is marvellous, but it was the beautiful poetic lyricism of his writing that really got me. I hope to see him on a bookshelf very soon.

Gripping, by DphiLsi:
Purchased, downloaded and read inside 24 hours. This book had me gripped from the first few sentences until the very end. As someone who grew up in the Highlands I have always been very aware of the dark mysteries that the nights seem to hold up there... particularly in the forests. "The Survival of Thomas Ford" is a gripping story which you will find difficult to put down. Only start it if you have plenty time on your hands!

Page Turner, by Julia Knox:
Read this on the train to and from work, couldn't put it down, wished the journey was longer so I could read more!! great read.

Excellent literary thriller, by Rita Davidova:
John Logan has written a gripping, atmospheric novel. It's stayed with me for some time after reading it. The dawn of a strong new talent.

In February 2012, The Survival of
Thomas Ford, reached number 13 in Top 100 bestselling paid UK literary fiction ebooks on Amazon, the great Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was at 84...Martin Amis at
91...Maeve Binchy just below at 93!
The Survival of Thomas Ford also reached number 18 in the Top 100 bestselling list of all paid UK literary fiction on Amazon, including not only the ebooks, but also the paperbacks and hardbacks, including the ones published by the major London publishers who had rejected The Survival of Thomas Ford!

The Survival of Thomas Ford also went to number 80 in the TOP 100 UK paid ebook thrillers.

If anyone is reading who helped make this happen, thank-you!

Five Dumb Guys Walk Into a Bar
Five Dumb Guys Walk Into a Bar by Scott E. Newton

What would you do if the fate of the world were in your hands? If you were suddenly given responsibility for the certain, and apparently quite thorough, erasure of the human species, how would you respond?

This is exactly the dilemma five friends unexpectedly find themselves facing. While they are often called the five dumb guys, they had better rise above their reputation now.

The five, ordinary middle age friends, are on their way to their favorite camping spot. They stop for a few drinks at a dive bar in some out-the-way Nevada town, where they strike up a conversation with a local desert rat. This drunk, who goes by the name Alaska John, soon turns out to be far more than he seems. He claims he is a god, and he’s here to erase the human species, given its total failure as a useful contributor to the advancement of life in the universe.

The five friends drink with Alaska John well into the night, and eventually he informs them he would really rather just sit in the bar drinking Budweisers, and hit on the barmaid. He tells them running around erasing cities full of people is just too much work, so he will hand over his powers to them, and the five dumb guys can decide which city to erase next. The catch is, only the location is optional, and if they don’t choose, Alaska will indiscriminately destroy the human race, one city at a time.

The tale then unfolds, where cities, along with millions of people, are erased in a puff of steam. As the five dumb guys try to reign in Alaska John, they travel the west, from the Grand Canyon to Big Sur. Along the way they meet fellow travelers and adversaries; witches and Wiccans, Jesus Freaks, the Vatos from deep in Mexico, and a Navajo shaman. They are pursued by the NSA and the FBI. All the while the five friends must make massive moral decisions, while trying to stop the erasure of the human species.

Is it a deal made in the heavens? Can five regular guys save the earth? How long can they distract their apocalyptic pal with Budweisers? Can they destroy the destroyer? Can anyone score with the barmaid? The five guys have a momentous dilemma; do they help Alaska John or try to stop him, and for that matter how?

Jane Baskin (janeytheb) | 3 comments \ Jane of the Jungle by Jane Baskin

I'm Jane Baskin, and this is my first novel, although I've been writing for years (newspaper hack, etc etc)

She’s an Olympic class shooter. She’s a pilot. She’s an emergency room nurse practitioner. She can bench 120 and leg press 300. She has the body of a dancer and the mind of a wolf.

And she’s sixty years old.
When hubby dies after a long illness…. presto! She’s broke.

Fold, or play?

Armed only with a facelift, a nine-millimeter and an attitude, she takes to the road in a converted tour bus that runs on shit. And a few adventures later, she becomes, truly, Jane of the Jungle.

Jane chucks her life as an emergency nurse practitioner for a life as a drug runner. First choice? Maybe not. But the need for money is a powerful driver…..and it takes her straight to John Domini, a mobster with a past, who hates his job.

A job he may just be terminated from….permanently.

Misfits in every world, they team up through crazy capers, wild chases and side trips into the very weird, to win a second chance at life.

Do they succeed? Ask the telepathic tiger, who muses with astonishing perception on human nature. Ask the biker queen who discovers that magic is real. Ask the mob boss who surrenders a life of denial to a talking fox who foretells the future.

Ask yourself: what makes sense? Really?

Hello!

I've written a cycle of historical novels set in 18th and 18th dynasty Egypt (think Horemheb and Ramesses):

The City of Refuge by Diana Wilder
The City of Refuge
It was once the glory of Akhenaten's reign, called 'The Horizon of the Aten'. Now the imperial city of Amarna lies wrecked, abandoned and accursed, dreaming in the darkness on the edge of the Nile.

Police Commander Khonsu has never believed in curses, but he can't deny his own foreboding when he learns that the city's stone quarries are to be reopened at Pharaoh's command by a delegation from the great temple of Ptah at Memphis, headed by Lord Nebamun, its second - ranking priest, a man without a past who is not afraid of ghosts, curses or the dead.

As Commander of the Provincial Police force assigned to guard the expedition, Khonsu accompanies the enigmatic Nebamun to the ruined city, where he finds himself entangled in a drifting web of betrayal, murder and revenge that has its deepest roots in the shadows of the city's heresy-tainted past.

THE CITY OF REFUGE is a story of hidden treasure, revenge and murder and one man's discovery that the paths of righteousness may lie through peril, but they will always bring you home.

Pharaoh's Son by Diana Wilder
Pharaoh's Son
The crash of Pharaoh's colossal statue into a throng of worshippers brings the festival of the good god Ptah of Memphis to a sudden, bloody end. Prince Khay, the High Priest, barely escaped being killed, himself. He finds clues in the wreckage that show that the disaster was deliberately set. Now he is confronted with questions that grow more alarming with every answer he finds as the great temple of Ptah is rocked by a chilling series of murders. Increasingly entangled in clues that lead to even more mysteries, convinced that the gods themselves are taking a hand in the disaster, he appeals to Pharaoh for help and is sent a powerful ally in his eldest brother Hori, Egypt's Crown Prince, whose courage and resourcefulness are surpassed only by his bluntness.

The brothers fight against time as they try to unravel the mystery, knowing that there is more at stake than treasure, and the forfeit is greater than a man's life. Something great and terrible is stirring, something they must find, hidden deep within the temple, something they must bring into the light before those who walk in darkness take it and turn it to evil.

PHARAOH'S SON is a historical novel set during the golden years of Ramesses the Great. It is a tale of murder, intrigue and hidden treasure that reaches back into Egypt's heresy-shrouded past.

A Killing Among the Dead by Diana Wilder
A Killing Among the Dead
Wenatef opens his eyes to darkness and intense silence. The air is heavy with myrrh: he is in a burial chamber. Pain lances through his left side as he tries to raise himself, bringing the taste of blood to his lips. His life ebbs as he remembers how the nightmare began.. One of his men came screaming of destruction and mutilation in the tomb of Egypt's greatest king. Wenatef set out to stop the sacrilege only to find that the very people he is sworn to protect were blocking him.

He dreams of judgment before the gods and awakens to find new strength and even more questions. Whose blood is pooled on the floor beneath him and caked on his side when he seems, now, to be unhurt?

Wenatef lets his enemies think they have killed him and sets out to uncover who is robbing and defiling the dead. Each new discovery brings him closer to the heart of a far-flung scandal of greed and betrayal that reaches a climax in a final confrontation in the great Temple of Karnak beneath the gaze of the gods.

A KILLING AMONG THE DEAD is a historical mystery set during ancient Egypt's declining years. It is a tale of betrayal, revenge and redemption, and one man's discovery that no matter how alone we seem in our struggle against evil, the Great Ones are never far away.

All are available in Kindle and paperback. After Apri 7 they will be available in other ebook forms...

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 33 comments My historical novel is called "Crossing the River." It is the only comprehensive fictional account that I have discovered of the Battles of Lexington and Concord April 19, 1775. Here is the book cover's description:

Standing on Lexington’s town common, humbled by the veneration of hundreds of militiamen, conceding that he had instructed them, encouraged them, in the end incited them, acknowledging that he, with others, had brought them to the river that could now be called revolution, Doctor Joseph Warren gives full credit to whom it is due. They, not he, knowing fully well the danger, had attacked the master. Standing at the river’s edge, they, of their own volition, had crossed over.

Joseph Warren is but one of Crossing the River’s many historical figures that bring to life General Thomas Gage’s failed attempt April 19, 1775, to seize and destroy military stores stockpiled at Concord by Massachusetts’s Provincial Congress. Characters of high and ordinary station, choosing to or forced to participate, must confront their worst fears. Revealing the internal conflicts, hubris, stupidity, viciousness, valor, resiliency, and empathy of many of the day’s participants, Crossing the River is both a study of man experiencing intense conflict and the varied outcomes of high-risk decision-taking.

The novel’s title is a metaphor for such decision-taking, be it Massachusetts militiamen seeking greater independence from Great Britain, General Gage’s attempted seizure of the provincial arsenal, two junior British officers’ risk-taking to earn quick promotion, an Acton schoolmaster’s compulsion to avenge the death of his dear friend and neighbor, a Lincoln youth’s attempted atonement for cowardice, a Lexington resident’s impulse to assist a redcoat deserter while he tries to resolve his neighbors’ and family’s low regard of him, or a British soldier/spy’s desire to rise above his station.

Marty Love (martylove) | 3 comments I published my first book, Fly Like a Penguin, in 2004. This year I revised it slightly and republished it as the first book of a trilogy. This one is now subtitled The Long Way Home. Volume 2, The Smell of Evil, should be ready in a few months, followed by Volume 3 by the end of the year (I hope). I call it the Adventure for Kids and Other people, the target audience being preteens and their parents. Here are some links:

Richard Sharp (richardsharp) | 4 comments The Duke Don't Dance by Richard G Sharp
My novel, (literary fiction)The Duke Don't Dance, is a tale of the silent generation (those between the greatest generation and baby boom). Compared by Kirkus Reviews to the works of Henry James and Joseph Heller, my novel's own "Catch 22" is getting the word out that a non-genre Indie novel is actually worth reading. To that end, I would be interested in swapping reviews with outher literary fiction authors.

John M. Free Kindle Download - Novel: A Life Without Grace
My novel, A Life Without Grace, will be available as a free Kindle download May 14 - 18.

Family...one you can make, the other makes you.

A LIFE WITHOUT GRACE dissects a tense few days in the life of Grayson Eilers, a successful baby-boomer. Grayson, a freelance speechwriter, receives an urgent message from his sister that their mother has suffered a severe heart attack. She is alive, but her condition remains critical. For more than three decades, Grayson has compartmentalized his life, distancing himself physically and emotionally from the modest origins that his mother, his sister and his two brothers represent, while dedicating himself to his new family: his wife and two children. After a terse conversation with his sister, Grayson, feeling angry and helpless, accepts his inevitable moral imperative: returning to Omaha to confront family members with whom he has never shared any commonality. He arrives in Omaha on the eve of a spring snowstorm that delays the arrival of his wife and his two children, leaving Grayson isolated to cope with the cascade of both predictable and unexpected emotions inherent in his stressful reunion with his estranged family.
