Don (donva61) | 19 comments Got a specific book you're thinking about reading, but not sure if it's for you? Wanna get some feed back from others who've read it? Here's where you can ask other Comfort Reads members if they've read a certain book, a series or author and find out what they thought about it.

Don (donva61) | 19 comments Okay, I'll go first. Has anyone here read "East of Eden"? I'm thinking of reading it myself and I'm interested in what you thought of it.

Thanks for starting this thread Don! I haven't read East of Eden but I'm sure some of our members have and hopefully they'll pipe up and let you know there thoughts.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Thanks, Don, for starting/moving your query to this thread. Hopefully several of our members have read East of Eden.

And I'm sure other group members will appreciate having this thread there in order to find out about books about which they're curious.

Yes, I read it a long while ago. I remember really enjoying it. I may add it to my pile of re-reads.

Thanks Christine. I've seen a lot of positive reviews; it's just nice to get feed back from people you're at least somewhat familiar with.

Absolutely fantastic. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors. On an aside note, my wife and I recently stayed in the Blue Dolphin Motel in Pismo Beach, California, where James Dean stayed while making the movie. As a matter of a fact, James Dean was on his way back to the motel when he had his fatal accident. We asked the manager which room Dean had stayed in while making the film, and she replied, "He stayed in all of them at one time or another." In any case, you can't go wrong with Steinbeck.

Great. Thanks, Mike. Sounds like you're a fan of the movie. I haven't seen it, but I understand it covers the last 100 pages or so of the book. Think I might read the book first.

Elhara | 19 comments A captivating book. Definitely worthy of a re-read every few years.

Maude | 479 comments When you are done with East of Eden (a great book!),you might enjoy Seabiscuit, An American Legend by Laura Hillenbrand - believe me, you won't want to put it down. A great horse/person story if this appeals to you.

Ivan East of Eden is a great novel - and Kate Trask one of the great female villians. And Abra...what a great name...if I ever had a daughter I'd name her Abra (and I'd hope she'd be a lovely as Julie Harris who played her in the movie).

Is that Abra as in Abracadabra? I don't think I've ever heard that name before. My new copy of "East of Eden" just came in the mail. I plan to start reading it right after I finish A Wrinkle in Time. Thanks, Ivan. Looking forward to it.

Ivan Just Abra. I think you'll like the book - it's a great and robust story very well told.

Lee Burton (lsburton337) Hi, Don, I was just browsing the group when I saw your post. I read a bit of Steinbeck when I was in high school, and rather enjoyed him, but then I picked up East of Eden on a whim about three years ago.

It was so very refreshing to be so blown away by a book again. That hadn't happened to me in years. Ive since read everything I can by Steinbeck, and I'm constantly comparing myself to him and being disappointed haha.

I love how the simplicity of his writing adds up to something amazing. I see you've already bought it, so I'm a little late, but regardless, I highly endorse it.

L.S.

Thanks for your input. I actually haven't started the book yet, but I must say I'm very encouraged to hear you say that you were blown away by it. That's what I wanna hear. All the things you describe are typically what I look for and enjoy in a good read. I'm excited more than ever to get started on it. Thanks again.
