Debbie Moorhouse How do people feel about FTL? Is it acceptable or too unscientific?

Erik (erikb2000) My rule of thumb is science fiction is 'what if' and fantasy is 'let there be'. You have to extrapolate in science fiction, which means if you can find a reasonable loophole in Einstein then more power to you! For example, stretching or warping space is perfectly okay. The theory of inflation by Alan Guth and others is such a theory where expansion of space in the early universe takes place much faster than the speed of light, although nothing embedded in that space travels faster than light.

Graham Clements | 8 comments Depends on how "hard" your science fiction is. If you have FTL than you just about have to have aliens visiting earth too, because if we have FTL certainly many of the estimated billions of inhabited worlds would also have it.
