Chicks On Lit discussion

Hi I am intrested in what other people love to read and re-read and why? Why that particular book? What makes it special? Im having a blue sunday and need cheering up. Hearing someone get excited about books always cheers me up!

I am horrible with that question. I always think 'if i were stranded on an island which book would I want to take with me?' The problem is I can never come up with an answer.
To pick one book out is just impossible for me. I don't often reread books, maybe Jane Austen but in general once I read a book it's done and I move on even if I loved it. Although Gone With the Wind is another exception. Perhaps that would be the book I would pick if I only had the one choice because I always find something new each time I read it.

I dont have just one favourite either. I really loved:
"the atonement child by Francine Rivers" because of what was overcome, that she found strength in tough times. that book never fails to make me cry.
"nanny diaries by Nicola Kraus and Emma Mclaughlin" because I always laugh and can relate to the main character, I was a nanny and know the deal!
anything by Marian Keyes she makes me laugh out loud.A real feel happy writer.

Gone With The Wind is a book a have re-read many many times so I would have to say that one.

Also....Conversations With God because I can take different things from it depending on where I am in my life at the time.

Pride and Prejudice, because I love an old-fashioned love story where the guy & the girl are drawn together due to a combination of physical attraction and intelligence (the 2 together being the ultimate fireworks). Also, the respect they have for each other...I just love an old-fashioned, black & white movie kind of love. I'd actually like to be reincarnated in the 1800's!

What's the best Marian Keyes novel to start with, Lauren?

Very hard to pick just one book. I can't do it. :)

Marian Keyes books are great. There is a "series" of book about the Walsh sisters. The first is Watermelon. There are others but I dont know the order. I think they are as follows but double check: Rachel's Holiday, Angels, Anybody Out There. I guess it doesn't matter if you read them out of order but I'd still start with Watermelon.

Her other books are stand alone novels so there is no order you have to read.

I agree with Peanut, start with watermelon, it was my first Marian Keyes. And I think the order is right. There is apparently a new Walsh Sisters book coming out sometime. After watermelon I was hooked!

My favourite book is "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. I adore it because it's written well, the story is exciting, touching, and easy to relate to, and the characters are wonderful. I have read it through several times, and recently introduced my husband to it. He loved it just as much. This is a book that I will be reading aloud to our kids one day. :)
