There is already a discussion folder on Pillars going. I moved your post to the correct folder. Please feel free to join in.

Deborah - I have yet to read the sequel (although I do own it). How do you think it compares (other than not as good as the first, which I think is impossible to top)?
I am a big fan of Follet. I've read a lot of his books. The Eye of the Needle is good. But Pillars is one of my all-time favorite books ever. But one of the main reasons I enjoy Follet is his way of weaving history into his fiction. The Man From St. Petersburg was another oldie but goodie.

I would like to invite all of you if you're willing to discuss the book "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet with me. Or if ever you haven't read the book maybe we can read it together and discuss each chapter or parts of the book with, uhmmm, I guess using the reading guides and questions found in some reputable websites like Oprah.com (she chose this book as her 60th book club selection).
I haven't read the book yet as I am still reading Follet's "The Eye of the Needle" before tackling The Pillars... 900+ pages. I admit I'm a methodical person and that's why I opted to read his first smashing bestseller.
I have been hearing a lot of buzz lately of how "great" this book is and am curious what truly made this book a constant bestseller. You may also consider this discussion an initiation if ever you are planning to read Follet's sequel to the Pillars... the book "World Without End".
I hope you will participate.

My warm regards and happy reading ^_^!
