I'm reading an old paperback edition of The Best of John W. Campbell published in 1976 by Ballantine Books. The actual ISBN on the copyright page is 0345249607195.

The last page of the afterword (by Mrs. Campbell) ends on page 364.

There has to be some type of error when the book was printed. There was no such thing as a 13 digit ISBN in 1976. The first 10 digits of that ISBN do align with the correct 13 digits ISBN that is also listed.

And for now, all valid ISBN-13s begin with 978.

The book was published in 1976. I don't know if that makes any difference.
