So ya'll can help keep me honest... and for those of you who are also doing NaNoWriMo this year. Here is another place to post word counts, curse words, and to procrastinate at crucial junctures.

NaNoWriMo site is down like Tito Ortiz at the moment. My word count as of 6:20pm today, Saturday, November 1, 2008:

5387

over 10% of my goal is reached!! w00t!!!

Join WriSoMiFu at LJ. Ten minutes a day and you're a winner!!!

message 4: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Well done Charissa! Yay, cheers for you!

I joined NaNoWriMo, but every time I go to the site, it is too slow and/or crashes, so I haven't really been able to use it yet. I'm only at 1,000 words. Nowhere near Char's amazing progress!

I only wrote 303 words yesterday. we'll see how well i do today. heading out to a cafe to write.

it's been a complete whore. but i have still managed to update my word count twice a day so far. I have not been able to check on the status of the invitation I left for a write in tomorrow morning to all Petaluma writers, so that's kind of annoying. I guess I'll just go down to the Apple Box and see if anyone else shows up.

message 7: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Yay for Sherri too, and more Charissa progress! :) The site still sucks for me right now, but I'll take your advice and just wait a couple of days and update it all at once. I'll jump up so far on my word count, it'll look more exciting.

Here's my word count so far:

8678 / 50000 words. 17% done!

That's 1104 words so far today. I'm thinking this whole sitting in a cafe thing really works for me. That's what I get for being a fucking Bohemian. Just hand me a bloody beret and have done with it.

Thanks everyone for your witness and support. I couldn't be doing this without you!!!

I think we have some slackers in our mist. I had assumed when this thread was first started, that all participating would post their daily word counts. Slackers I say.

word count today:

12, 114

I'm almost 1/4 of the way done. I have less than 2/3 of the month left, though, so I'm either going to have to bend time, or write faster. : )

anybody got a time bender?

message 13: by Cyril (new)

Cyril Go, Charissa, Go!

I once worked on a fantasy novel and got to 40,000 words. Then I lost interest and quit. Oh, well.

I didn't write at all yesterday. I had two design deadlines and too many bills to pay. Damn life for interfering in my literary genius!!!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
I hate to be a cermudgeon Charissa but; That is no excuse. If you really want to be a writer, then BE a writer. Life will always be standing by to interfere with progress, if you let it. Pay a bill write for 20 minutes, pay another and repeat. You have a daughter, put her freeloading butt to work.

"Hey! Spawn of my womb! Pay bills if you want to eat tonight!"

Hand her the check book and write. later on that evening check o make sure she did it right... and didn't write a check to herself.

I think that everyone needs a break, sometimes, Nick. Especially when other things are happening.

15,000+ words! Holy hell!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
slow your roll Phonics Nazi. The goal is 50k the month is almost half over. This is no time for feelings. I like Charissa; Charissa needs success and that means quit boo hooing about stupid life. Make it work, it is time to sweat, lots of coffee, lots of masturbating, anything it takes to be inspired until you hit 50k. Then you can go back and repair the sloppy parts.

I tell you what, artist are some lazy folks.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
Look, all I'm saying is that, If the world was populated with artist; we would still be living in caves. Sure they would look pretty but...

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

...the stalactites would poke you in the head.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
... all your books would be ruined from the humidity, and pooling water.

Yeah not so funny now is it.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Did you know that only the male bat (in many species) is awake during copulation? They "unfreeze" from their hibernation, crawl across a ceiling of bats, make it with a female while she's hibernating, and then crawl back to their hibernation spot. Cave living is just uncivilized!

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
HEH! that's great! date raped bats and smoked fishes.

I see you both ignored the ruined books.

25,000 words.. only half way there, but I haven't given up, despite being in Denver visiting friends.

I used to leave my books out in the rain. My paperback copies of the Lord of the Rings are swollen like a turgid member and missing pages. Shocking. Shocking.

message 27: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Write, Charissa, write!

I think there's something about Tolkien paperbacks that cries out for being left in the rain. Now, if only they would shrink if you did that...

lol... that would be awesome! books that you can shrink really tiny, and then add water to expand! Yay! Shogun is another one you should be able to do this with.

just finished, posted the novel to nanowrimo site, got my certificate, and am going to pass out. my eyes are completely square from staring at computer screen for past two days.

52,478 final word count. the last half of the book is utter shite. got a lot of editing to do. but dammit if I didn't goddamn make the goal. I feel giddy. also, slightly nauseous.

thanks for everyone who offered support and encouragement. I couldn't have done it without you.

To those who insisted on becoming pointless impediments... nyah nyah nyah. So there.

message 37: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 78 comments Ugh. Editing. It's like pulling teeth for me. I almost always end up loathing everything that's already on the page and rewriting nearly the entire thing.

message 38: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
I'm really enjoying the editing process actually. But unfortunately I allowed so little time to write the last half of the book that it pretty much sucks. So, I have already thrown out most of it and am spending more time rewriting it. I got a few idea nuggets from it, but seriously, it's like a whole different person wrote the last half. Someone who basically doesn't give a shit about quality. Or... plot.

Logan, that is my wife's problem. she has re-written her current work countless times over the last 5 years. I Told her to quit finger fucking it and send it in... look what happened.
