The group has voted for The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen as this month's book, from Denmark.

Please note that in the UK this is released under the name Mercy. (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...)

Feel free to discuss it here.

Sue | 14 comments I'm glad you added that Chris as my library didn't have it as KOLC! bur does as Mercy :)

I'm enjoying the fast-pacedness of this book. It's quite refreshing to have an easy-reading bestseller, after the slightly heavy books we've had recently.

I'm nearing half way and the plot is developing nicely - and Assad is a really interesting character!

Yes, despite the "murder mystery" part of the book which at times is a little troublesome (like all murder mysteries) there is some good character development with characters such as Assad. Am also learning a bit, generally, about the politics of Denmark.

Sue | 14 comments Copy just arrived in library - looking forward to it. I have read the Larsson trilogy and more recently Fishing in Utopia so it was good to get a different view of the Swedish politics. Know little about Denmark (except the bacon - which I don't eat!). Interesting - especially in the light of world events. I do prefer books where you get an idea about the country rather than those which could have been set almost anywhere.

Further into this book. Its a very light read but fun and worth the journey. A mystery writer worth reading again, but light.

Sue | 14 comments Finished - perhaps not an ideal Christmas read but I did enjoy it. Agree Assad should develop well in future novels. Are all detectives made from the same mold? I gave it 5* because I really did enjoy it - for once I guessed who the perps were but it didn't spoil the story. Have ordered the sequel!

Similar but some are more complex. I don't read a lot of mysteries but here are a few suggestions of mystery writers I've enjoyed: P.D. James, Ian Rankin, Sara Paretsky and Arnaldur Indrioson.

Phylwil | 13 comments Well, I'm obviously way behind. I'm only halfway through this, and doubt that anyone is reading the comments. Anyway, whenever I read a book in which someone is imprisoned, I always think of some way that person can escape. But I can't on this one.

If anyone responds, don't spoil it.

Sue | 14 comments I'm reading the comments! No comment to ending!

Phylwil | 13 comments I think this would make a good movie, with 2 story lines and dramatic moments (like the appearance of the rusty tongs).

Still not done--don't tell, don't tell--I've been preoccupied with jury duty.

Phylwil | 13 comments Finally finished. I don't know how much I might have learned about Denmark, except that its politics sound familiar. Assad was a thoroughly enjoyable character, and I would read a sequel based on that alone. But, Sue,if you're still checking in here, I couldn't find any English language sequels. Did I not look hard enough?

According to Fantastic Fiction he has a new one coming out this year called 'Disgrace'. Hope you can find it!

Phylwil | 13 comments Thanks, Sue. With the help of the title you supplied, I can find it whenever it is published (May or June, sources say). Plenty to read until then.

Helen | 1 comments Loved this book, just finished reading it. I had my map looking at places mentioned in the book. So I know more aout Denmark. I loved the intereaction between the two main characters. I agree it would make a great "buddy" movie. Going to see if there is any more books in this series.
