One Million Pages Per Lifetime discussion

I don't know about you guys, but I love reading books set in other countries and finding out about them. One of my other groups on Goodreads is doing a read around the world challenge, and I thought that maybe some of you guys might have read some books set in different places, or have an interest in...so feel free to discuss and hopefully have some fun.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is set mostly in Prague but there are sections were you find yourself in Morocco. You are also invited into a whole new world.

I really loved some of the descriptions of Prague. It made me want to go really bad!!

The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges
This book is not out until Jan but it is set in Historical St. Petersburg Russia. Ah, one day I will get there.

By the way my dear you hit on my other favorite thing... Travel. I love picking up and traveling around the city, the state, the US and around the world!

Books are just another way to get to where I can't be. :)

by Deborah Harkness is set mostly in England, but you also travel to France and the US throughout parts of the book. For those who haven't read it, I highly recommend this book it is amazing!

last year on my travels around the world, I really enjoyed which took me to WW2 Lithuania/Siberia (as part of Stalin's annexing of the Baltic countries) as well as which took me to post revoluation zimbabwe

This is the second book in the Eternal Ones series and it starts out when the two main characters are in Rome.

I can't remember if was partly in the US, partly in another country or both.

I'm closing in on having read a book by an author from each country. Not all of them are set in the country, and not all of the authors are native (with one exception, they've lived there for at least 2 years). If I can help with recommendations, please let me know.

Sightseeing by Rattawut Lapcharoensap
A book written by a Thai and set in Thailand. This book brought me back to my days living in Thailand! I enjoyed it so much.... Just to mention it is short stories.

Due to suggestion I Picked up Shades of Gray today. I'm looking forward to this journey even though I just know it is going to be sad.

another YA I read and enjoyed was Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away set in Nigeria, tells the story of a pre-teen girl growing up in the area, and what happens to her family

I enjoyed it too. Ever since I got my own book blog a couple months ago, I'm slowly going back to the books I've read in the last 2 years and writing book reviews for the ones I really liked.

The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II by Iris Chang

Defiantly a story of Chinese history. It is a tale of holocaust of the Chinese people by the Japanese. Something that is to this day not really mentioned in China.

I have not read this one yet. I know I will ball like a blubbery female when I get to some of the hostile descriptions.

This book was recommended to me by someone who has been living in Guilin, China for the last three years. I didn't get to read it when I was there earlier but I will most certainly take it off his shelf when I am back there in Feb and give it a go. It will be slow and painful but I'm sure it will be worth it.

K..the series is iffy, but went all over the place. Russia, China, the West Bank, Tibet...

I really want to read that book! I love reading about the History of Russia!

I didn't care much for the beginning of the Fallen but I've been curious to see where else they would go. Torment better?

At parts there was A LOT going on, not too much to be confused, but where you shake your head thinking what else is going to be added. It did all work out in the end and I LOVED reading about the court in Russia. I will be continuing w this series!

Early this morning I finished listening to a YA set in mostly in GREECE by Tera Lynn Childs.

It was dirt cheap at audible.com for less then 4 bucks so I bought it. *shrugs*

Needless to say, I was not expecting much at all. Except it wasn't that bad. Suprisingly it had a fun story and the young girl was not terribly annoying. But what teenager doesn't whine a little.

There was even an evil step sister... with powers!

The fun part was when she was running. I have not found a book about running and how that makes one feel. I'm not a runner, hence I don't get pounding your knees out. Yet, I understood the need and desire she found for running.

Leon Uris writes books in other parts of the world. I am going to read at least 2 of his in 2012:

-Israel

-Occupied Palestinian Territory

Interesting. Religious Studies is another area a dabble in. It goes hand and hand in with my studies on War.

Hmmmm...I just finished which was mostly set in Canada even though they don't tell you until a lot later in the book. Then the other half (yes it is about nearly half in each) was set in Virginia, USA. I think I am still going to claim in under the Where in the World Challenge.

I would. Two different spots. That is almost a bonus. :)

I have not read but I'm pretty sure Zakiya has and she also told me to get to it. I wonder why she wouldn't continue the series? She working on something better?

It's the only book that I've read by her. I might have to check out one of her other series.

I read a really entertaining nonfiction book this summer called The Rescue Artist by Edward Dolnick. I have pasted the summary from Amazon below:
