Rachel the Book Harlot | 217 comments Hello All! We are now taking nominations for the January group read. This month's theme is the Dangerous Byronic Hero. The Byronic hero is arrogant, cunning, jaded, self destructive, and disrespectful of rank and privilege.

Please have all nominations in by Thursday, Dec. 8th.

Thanks!

Ooh! Good one, Rachel!

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 21 comments My number one choice would be Love's Illusion by Katherine Sutcliffe . Dominick presents (at least to the world at large) all of the qualities of the Byronic hero.

I have never heard of a byronic hero. I mean just the name, not the characteristics.

Heather, I read the synopsis and it sounds intriguing! Thank you for the suggestion!

message 6: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Lord Black in Seduction & Scandal (The Brethren Guardians, #1) by Charlotte Featherstone fits the description of a Byronic hero - arrogant, moody, disrespectful of society, keeps secrets and may have committed some sort of crime in the past.

I loved it! The characters are great and the plot is clever. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Rachel the Book Harlot | 217 comments Damn, I'm torn. Both of them sound great & are both new to me.

Heather (heathermb) | 21 comments Ooooo... Seduction and Scandal sounds good too..... ^_^

The Goodreads page for Love's Illusion doesn't seem to say much about what the book's about and there's only one review so I went out and found another review...

"This book was definitely one of her best. It was very emotional as are all her novels, but there was something distinctly different about it. The main characters were not of the ton, or had anything to do with the aristocracy. ----spoiler so cutout----. It was very refreshing, and he was a self made man- a magician and philanthropist. He saw Mercy Dansing helping out at a local hospital and ended up being smitten with her.

He decides to hire her as his assistant, and she moves into his house, but there are murders happening all over London by one called "Jack the Ripper." The police think that it is Dominick because one of the women killed was one of his former mistresses, and he seems to have some sort of connection with each woman killed. As a result, he keeps being hounded by the police, and Mercy confronts her feelings about him. She has some doubts about him being the murderer. She is very attracted to him but is still afraid of her sexuality. Some of the scenes in the book were just so wonderfully written and unique that they just spoke to you."
